Actually, it did pretty well domestically also. Not in the range of The Avengers or The Dark Knight Rises, but compared to other films and comic book movies it still did pretty darn well domestically.

But no one is comparing anything except for THOSE posters.

Like I said, at least tell the truth and stop saying I or chaseter are bringing up the films. But, we were told to move on, so we must.

ASM should end up with at least 260 m. So it's only short 15-35 m of expectations. The haters only get a slight victory if any.

People forget that this movie was the third highest grossing film of 2012 so far...

More to the point even, it still continues the trend since the 1st sequel of each spider-man film grossing less than its predecessor domestically going on 3 straight films now with this being the biggest drop yet.

Regardless if this is a reboot technically sony still views spider-man as a whole as one franchise and i'm sure they've been wanting this slide to stop at some point.

I'm sure Sony is still very happy with how the movie turned out. Its more than it just being the fourth spider-man film... its a reboot. With so much going against it, I expected it to do a lot worse.

China actually punches well below it's weight in terms of population though. That is due to the fact that the majority of the population isn't really urbanized yet and the rampant bootlegging no doubt.

It's rare for a hollywood movie to make more than 100m in all of china despite having over 4 time the pop. of the us.

There is also the issue of the take the chinese gov. gets

The films tend to make a fraction of what they make back in the States, and even less so when you consider how much of the revenue China gives back to the studios (roughly 13.5-17.5%).
