My problem with Spider-Man 2 was this :

This is not a bash at the Raimi trilogy because I really enjoyed number one and two but the sense of chemistry between Peter and MJ was just not that strong, in my opinion. I always felt like MJ came across as a really annoying plot device, just put in there to torment poor Peter. In each film she was always the main reason why Spidey would swing into action to save the day. In Spider-Man 2, I found the wise words from Aunt May (favourite scene in the entire trilogy, it hit a real emotional cord with me) were contradicted by Peter. " Sometimes we have to give up the things we want the most, even our dreams". This was great line which was then twisted by the plot. Peter only gains his powers back once MJ is in danger and not because of the peril the city was facing. For me that didn't sit well because at that point he is only becoming Spider-Man again for his own personal gains.

I hope in this new film Gwen is a much stronger character for Peter and by the looks of it she may be just that.
Excellent point. I never really thought of it that way.

I just always had a problem with Raimi's MJ in general. She seemed so bipolar and extremely insecure. Nothing like the MJ we all know and love.

Yeah, there were a couple of inconsistencies that did not sit well with me. I enjoyed one and two but there were points where I felt like it was no longer Spider-Man. In my view he always came across selfish because MJ was the only reason he would save the day.

I hope in this new film Spidey is about saving the city and its people and not his love interest every five minutes, it can get old pretty quickly. I think that is why the third film was not that great, there were a number of factors but by the end of that last film, we had seen it all before.

I think MJ was fine in SM1, and was okay in SM2. She was very annoying in Spider-Man 3, but at the same time it could be justified because so many bad things happened to her. She got a bad review for her performance, fired from her job, sees her boyfriend kissing another girl at the parade, later sees that same girl rubbing her hand on Peter's shoulder (bragging about the kiss), watches them dancing together for the sole purpose of jealousy, gets slapped, gets kidknapped a third time, sees her friend Harry get killed, etc.

Still nothing new I see... yawn.

True this. I always hated the scene where he sees the guy getting mugged in an alley and he just... walks away. The fact that he didn't want to be Spider-Man anymore doesn't excuse him for not being a decent human being.

Yeah, I was not too impressed with this either. It falls into the "with great power, comes great responsibility" category and unfortunately he fails Uncle Ben's words of wisdom yet again. He is being reckless and the last time he did that his Uncle was murdered, so it did not make any sense to me.

What I have liked from The Amazing Spider-Man from the trailers, is the scene between him and Gwen when he throws her out the window. One because it is pretty funny but secondly because he is getting her out of harms way immediately. He removes her from the situation as quickly as possible and that makes complete sense to me.

Plus it is an obvious shout out to the fact that Gwen dies in a very similar fashion.

Yeah, and that to me is just genius. I mean, the general audience wont expect Gwen dying because they are taking it for granted that the girlfriend never dies. Then they see Gwen falling from a bridge, and both the "throwing out of window"-scene and the MJ-falling part from Spider-man 1 give the audience a false impression that Spidey is just gonna save her. But then, how shocked will they be as the hear the neck snapping and Gwen lies dead in front of Peter :woot:

Yeah, it would be some truly shocking stuff. If they do go down this route they need to make sure it is completely under wraps. They should hide it from the public as much as possible. If done correctly it could be very much a "I am your father" moment.

In all 3 Raimi's movies, the villain kidnaps MJ at the end.

hahaha...
"Peter, I AM your father. Now dont get angry but I need a sample of your blood for further analysis"

I was kinda disappointed by that 8/10 review BTW

Am now expecting 9/10 and .'as good as the avengers' type of reviews :P

The kidknapping worked in the first movie, and it didn't bother me when it happened for the second film. But when the third movie was released and she gets kidknapped AGAIN, it felt like they were using a formula for all the movies.

How did everyone feel about the "swinging sequence" that was released. I personally really liked it. You can tell from that clip that Spidey is swinging for the first time in full costume. People have gripes that he does not move like Spider-Man enough but it makes sense because he is obviously learning. Some people have a natural talent for something but they don't become really good at it, until they have practiced. Webb also stated in an interview that as he starts to become Spider-Man, the scope of the film widens and I think he also means the scope of Spidey's abilities widen. I mean if you look at the third trailer he is pulling off some pretty spectacular moves. I also loved the music score in that scene, it really romanticised the character and it brings home the fact this is the birth of a hero.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe Facebook page said the movie was just as good as the Avengers, so hopefully that is truthful.

To be honest 8/10 is not a bad score at all. I would actually be content if the average was around that. If it goes into the seven's or six's I will be worried and feel let down. I don't think that is going to be the case though. Also bear in mind, that is only one guy, with one opinion. There will be plenty more to come that will give you a better indication about how good this film really is.

Of course, the only person who can truly decided whether it meets up to your expectations is you and no one else buddy. I personally hope this and TDKR turn out to be great movies because how awesome would that be? Three big comic book adaptions, that have all received praise, couldn't ask for any more than that really.

Maybe it felt like that because it WAS an overused plot device.

If it's his opinion, it's truthful. That's how the guy feels. You gotta decide for yourself if you feel that way lol. How could it not be truthful?

And Marvelite got a little out of hand and petulant so he's gone for a while

Loved his passion but he just got a bit overzealous for real. I really did want to know how old he was though

I'm concerned about when I sit down in a theater at a midnight showing and the lights dim on July 3...

Damn you sir...you have no idea how this scenario made me feel. Thanks for worsening my anticipation. Haha

I can't wait for this to be a reality!

Lol I didn't mean it in a bad way though at all. Just can't wait for that night.
