What did the Schmoes think of AoU?

I guess we got all this to deal with & show in the span of just under 2 1/2 hours:

-HYDRA battling/runoff with scepter
-Avengers getting fatigued
-Ultron creation/story
-Twins story/flipping sides
-Vision's creation/story
-Interpersonal team dynamics collapsing
-Increased Hawkeye role
-Fury's reintroduction
-Hulk/Widow subplot
-Wakanda/Klaue
-Whatever Dr. Cho is doing
-Alleged Asgard material/Thor going there "for answers"
-Hulkbuster fight & repercussions

So we shall see how all the plates keep spinning. And tying together. And resolving. You never know with Marvel's movies, but they tend to be turn out more straightforward than they first appear based on trailers & info.

Nice list. It's interesting that many of those attending the screening have mentioned that there's lots happening in the movie. It's hard to determine from such small messages if this is positive or negative though.

yeah its become something of a fashion on these boards to hate on the first Avengers these days but that movie rocked my face off. Just rewatched it yesterday for the first time in almost a year and it was just as kickass and joyous as i remember it.

and i think the reason for that, and why you see it so often on these boards, is because it wasnt a good film. it was fun, and enjoyable, but as a film, it was transformers with better characters and dialogue. It was a generic action flick packed with our favorite characters. I dont consider that great, and its shown as the excitement has faded. You rarely see the dark knight suffer the same revisionist opinions. and the reason for that is because it was a successful FILM. we get super amped for these movies, but once that cools, we can better judge them accordingly.

There there. Let it out. And I'm sure some day the world will realize they were completely wrong about TASM2 being an embarrassing piece of garbage. Hang in there!

ohh yes you do..lol. The same thing happens to most successful films. And i honestly dont see how one can compare the first avengers to Transformers. They are incredibly different films. I, along with tons of people love the Avengers and i love it today as much as i did 3 yrs back

No. But thank you for your opinion anyway. Still, if you think professional reviewers were excited to see theyre favourite characters together...eh... yeah... sure.

LolLol and of course TDK has seen more than its fair share of "revised" reviews. People see what they want to see, and ignore the rest.

Guys just be prepared for the passive aggressive trolling that's already begun. If their pet sh film didn't get the love they hoped, any (perceived) chink in the MCU armor will be their cue for some payback. Sad but inevitable.

Agree 100%.

Indications are they liked it, though they could have been a little more clear. Ellis just made a :wow: face and Kristian said "Avengers1...Winter Soldier...Ultron" which I think is positive but who really knows. He leaves it open to interpretation.

It's actually a cycle that happens with almost every superhero property.

The first one comes out, people love it.

It would later get a sequel or a reboot.

That sequel/reboot gets hyped up.

Then people hype it so much and want to love it so much that they trash the previous incarnation.

And then the cycle repeats.

Nothing revised about my feelings on that movie. I've been crapping on it since the day I saw it.

And you deserve respect for being consistent and sticking to an unpopular opinion. Keep it up.

That leave a LOT of room. I could make a video on my IPhone with better characters and dialogue than Crapformers Age of SuckStinktion.

I think both were good movies (TDK was actually a film....was filmed on film) with very different tones and each can stand on their own as a unique piece of work. You know what they say opinions are like....right?

lol, im not here to troll. Im not some anti MCU whatever with some grudge to push either. I just want good films. Not good "comic book" movies. And I hope avengers 2 IS a good film. I just didnt think the first one was.

and not very opinion is some personal slight :loco:

This happens with every film and has nothing to do with the overall quality. Just watch all the backlash the Nolan trilogy will receive once Snyder drops the trailer for BvS. In fact, the backlash against Nolan has already started once the first Batfleck image was shown. People are already complaining about Nolan making Batman boring and nothing like the comics and are more excited to see Snyder's interpretation of the character. Those voices will only get louder the closer BvS is to it's premier.

Sorry but Avengers is in no way a 'generic action flick'. It's one of the best action movies of the past decade. Avengers didn't become the highest grossing CBM of all time just by being a 'generic action flick' like Transformers.

I'd respect his (and others) opinions if he acknowledged his own personal biases. We all have them.

For example, if you don't care for Whedons style and brand of humor - perfectly understandable - then just be up front about it. It's not a statement of quality, just personal taste, but at least it's honest.

I have a bias against time travel plots. I still consider T1 and 2 to be classics but they lose points for me personally. Same goes for DOFP, which is easily the 2nd best x movie - a well made film - but not in my top ten.

That said, if you call a hugely popular and critically acclaimed film "bad", and you have posted after post defending TASM2, expect some skepticism. Just common sense.

And statements like "I just want good films!" are just annoyingly transparent. Really?! You just want good movies?!! Well goood for youuuu!! (Sheesh)

Thingink TDK is not a good film is nice, pickleweed. I dont agree, but hey, i respect it. Thinking critics got it wrong is also an opinion that deserves respect. Saying the New York Times and the Los Angeles Times gave TDK glowing reviews despite it being a generic transformers action movie because they are Batman fanboys is... eh... well... See the difference?
