Age of Ultron The Avengers 2! The Official News and Speculation Thread - - - Part 49

I think Iron Man 2 is mediocre, it had a lot of great moments and elments in it but the fact that they're not pushed to its full potential is what makes it underwhelming. Thor 2 is so far my biggest disappointment in the MCU because I actually think the first Thor is really great.

Wow I didn't realise Thor 2 was this maligned among the fans, I personally consider Thor to be the absolute weakest of the entire MCU and Thor 2 a genuine step up (but still the weakest of phase 2 by miles) but some people think its the worst of the bunch?!

Is it all the Jane stuff?

Thor: The Dark World was in my top three MCU movies when it first released in theaters, however after repeat viewings at home it has sort of fallen for me because I've realized that I have an internal grown whenever it would cut back to Earth. It's not that I didn't like the earth sequences (in fact, I love the sequence when Darcy gets Selvig out of jail), but I just wish more screen time had been spent at Asgard or developing Malekith.

Those characters were just so much more crucial to the plot and would further diversify the Marvel universe, which is where I feel Marvel has dropped the ball on both Thor films. Regardless, I still enjoy Thor: The Dark World over Thor. On the other hand, the only things I really enjoyed from the original Thor were Thor and Loki's character arcs, if it weren't for them I'd never re-watch the film.

I still don't understand why Whedon wanted the film to be shorter than the first one, if the film is overstuffed as some reviews are saying, 5 or 10 minutes longer would have only benefited the film.

I'm beginning to wonder how many of the plots were his idea and how many might have been Marvel asking for help to set up future movies.

My issue with Thor 2 is Thor feels like a side character in his own movie. Idc care about Jane, and as much as I love Loki, he steals the spotlight from the main character.

I think Jon Schnepp said it best

"This movie is fighting itself."

From the looks of things Age of Ultron is slightly on the other side of the spectrum compared to the 1st one.

First off, a lot of these reviewers keep spoiling the movie...Why can't they talk about their opinions and not the damn movie?....Second, for me, the only legitimate criticism is when they talk about the movie havin' to pay its dues to past and future franchises. Because that literally breaks a movie apart. You're not seeing a movie. Just a bunch of sophisticated commercial of other movies. They should focus on this movie alone and not the others.

Other than that, most people are talking about what they wanted to see and not what they saw. They wanted to see more of QS and Scarlet Witch, more of cap vs stark, not wanting to see monologues, etc.

Edit: It must be hard for marvel trying to please everyone: those who want nods to past films, teasing some future characters, making a consistent universe, etc.

To ME the Dark Elves should have spoke English and have us ASSUME they spoke another Language. I still think so much was lost with them speaking Dark elvish

Therein lies the pain of making something with a built in fanbase, everyone has expectations and with it, preferences on how things "SHOULD" be, films like these will never get universal love unless you do things in a very crowd pleasing simplistic and somewhat hollow way (Avengers) or you have a unifying element that guarantees that everyone will love it (Heath Ledgers performance in Dark Knight) or base it on a property that is niche or reletively unknown so that the amount of people that have preferences end up getting washed out by people actually surprised that the film was made competently (GOTG).

But making a proper film, with a real full on story about characters that everybody has an opinion about, directed by a visionary director that wants to put his or her own mark on, it's a tough thing especially when you are following up on one of the previously mentioned rare films that gets universal praise.

Why read them then?
I'm curious what they ARE saying but have only read one review a week ago. (the bad one) lol

Too ME either the fan likes it or not. I'll read FAN reviews by you guys, but not critic's reviews

I agree, but that is the least of the movie's problems. It just seemed like they wanted to pander to Natalie Portman so they moved the setting to Earth in the last act, and the movie suffered as a result. And two movies in, we have barely seen much of Lady Sif and Warriors 3. That itself is criminal.

Well, I read them because Marvel will make their next movies, taking into account some of that criticism. I think Marvel's great at listening to criticism but they have to be careful and not try to please everyone's whishes.

And, yes, fans criticism is more fair and accurate than those supposed movie critics.

Christian harloff changed his score slightly after seeing it a second time on his schmoes know reviewe I think we might get that a bit with this one 4.2 out 5

Is the movie coming out in non 3D?

Cant find non 3D tickets..............

Im sure theres critics who didnt like it because Tony created Ultron and stupid BS like that. They dont want him to be anything besides the guy from IM 1 and 2. If its not Avengers 1.5, its not good etc.

I think we should let critics give the film a negative review in peace. :funny:

Agreed 100%. At the end, I hope fans will see the movie for what it really is, whether it be good or bad.

I expect AOU to be good, but my early prediction of having over 90% RT rating is probably impossible right now. However, after having such a great year in 2014, with TWS and GOTG, even Marvel will find it hard to keep it up. I hope it will at least end up in the 80's, however.

There usually are but they really push 3D for pre-orders to get the most amount of money. Wait until a day or two before the premiere (unless you're in country where it opens this week) and they non-3D showings start showing up.

I feel pretty positive with the reviews so far, so it's a bit more polarizing that means i may love it lol I mean I think im3 is a genius entry lol

Hey, I also think Iron Man 3 is a great film. I will be seeing this film whether it was loved by many or hated by many. I always knew it was going to be tough to top that Avengers feel.

These reviews are really weird, so much different from the universal praise GOTG received. Not sure how I'll feel about the movie until I see it, I guess.

I think people were expecting a fun light romp like Avengers which this doesn't sound like it is.

Don't care about critics or reviews. As long as I love the movie that's all that matters to me. That's all that should matter to anyone really but too many people are concerned what others think about it. Excited as hell for the movie I just know I'm gonna love it though. All the spoilers I've read and clips and footage I have seen have been great. :)
