Not if this is as big of a film as we think, and a great film too. I hope its actually a good film. For everyone, not just fans. Word of mouth really helps

As a fan of the original Dark Shadows this new movie looks HORRENDOUS but I have no perspective on how the GA will percieve it. My gut instinct though is that even if I was not a fan of the original this would still look horrendous.

I agree, that trailer looks like ****. When I first heard that Depp was starring in a Dark Shadows movie I was excited, but unfortunately he and Burton decided to go insane with the camp aspects. I'm sure that Depp fans and the GA will lap it up, but to me it's pure schlock.

OTOH, there isn't necessarily a lot of crossover between the super hero action spectacle audience, and the macabre horror/comedy audience. So there's hope.

(not raising my hand)
Really, Megan Fox is the only thing I enjoyed about the first two TFs. Bee-Sting Rosie, though, creeps me out big time.

Otherwise, I was just dragged along by my boy who wanted to see his toys come to life. He liked TF, when he was 5 or 6. Now that he's 10, Transformers bore him almost as much as they do myself.

Eh, if it was up to me, I would have just forget about Sam and had Mikaela be the main character in all three films(chick who knows about cars) If there was going to be any sort of romance, maybe she could have gotten together with Epps. Now that was a good looking hunk of a man, and would be more believable.

That movie looks so ridiculous. I was like. Uh.. Ok.. It doesn't look like stiff competition, but is a tim burton and Johnny depp film, so who knows. Hopefully people are getting tired of depp and burton

Don't count on it. If Depp is playing a zany character, people will flock.

Just thinking, I don't read the comics, but does Tony Stark have a long lost cousin or brother, Johnny Depp would be perfect for a cameo...... OK, done wondering.

Tony had a Loser Brother who was a gambling addict,
There is a Depp role for you .

Correcting myself .
That was Morgan Stark who had the problem.
And, he was Tony's COUSIN !

In Ultimates Tony has a twin brother, I believe. In the 616 universe he has no siblings, but he does have a loser cousin named Morgan Stark who's not only a gambler but once sold Tony out to his enemies for money.

Ah, you got there before me.

yeah Tonys brothers a big shot in the Ultimate U. which has gotten ten times better recently. i suggest people check out the newest run of The Ultimates. one of the better comics out at the moment believe it or not. and i really dont see much of any competition for The Avengers. i too was a little disapointed in the Dark Shadows trailer. i think it will do ok but i dont know if itll bump off The Avengers

pure insanity. lol. lot of cool stuff going on. even debuted Ultimate Xorn....and Zorn! theres two of em! lol

let me just say ive completely forgotten about Loebs single handed destruction of the whole Ultimate U. plus Ultimate Spiderman is consistently good

I had lost interest in that line from before when Ultimate X-men became a what-if scenario with so many members out of character. Then when Ultimatum came along and killed off so many iconic X-MEN characters I abandoned it completely.

ugh. dude i remember. just recently started reading it again during the most recent run. its getting back to how it was during Ultimates Volume 1. you,ll be pleasently surprised

lets see. Hawkeye. Black Widow. Cap quit!!!!!! Falcon. hmmm. well Thors the last Asgardian. Reed Richards came back and killed The World Tree and all the Asgardians. frigging epic. lol

I remember when a movie making 200 million domestic was still seen as a big deal :p

Dark Shadows trailer is up

And it is very clearly a zany old-school burton comedy in the vain of bettlejuice. Do we still not think this movie will be a threat? I think women will flock to this movie.

Well Dark Comedy Tim Burton and Depp is a great time, but face it Dark Shadows doesn't have the same following as Wonka and Alice so the base is not built in

This movie reminds me of Ed Wood, in its' comedy and style a movie that I LOVE

but went south very fast at the box office - highly under rated

I don't think it will be a big huge hit that takes the Avengers out f the number 1 spot in week 2

probably hits 20 to 30 million in it's opening weekend Avengers should still be in the 40's maybe more

Avengers should be well above the $40M's in it's second week. IM1&2 were in the $50M's 2nd weekend and I expect TA to do better than the Iron Man films at the box office. I Think TA should at least be in the $60M's on it's 2nd weekend. Hopefully higher.

According to Deadline.com,THG has already presold one million in ticket sales .
Anybody care to make any predictions on how much the Avenger will sell BEFORE May 4th?

Well one million in ticket sales translates to what? $7-12 million depending on what the average price is? The average price in 2010 was $7.89 and had been increasing by 1/4-1/3 of a dollar each year so at best the average price this year would be about $8.50. So that's $8.5M in pre-sales for THG roughly.

Lionsgate upped their in-house estimates for THG's OW from 75 to 95 mil based on the pre-sales, and they're being conservative. The fanzealots estimate 125 mil.

Also:

I'm wondering if John Carter's MASSIVE bombage is going to affect the way Disney approaches marketing or even greenlighting future films in the sci-fi/fantasy/superhero genre.

For those of you not keeping up with those news, it's VERY grim for Disney right now. JC is now on record as the BIGGEST bomb of ALL TIME....Disney shocked the hell out of even the worst skeptics in just the past few hours by announcing that they're looking at a write-down of over 200 mil, which officially makes JC the worst flop ever.

I think that's 1 million dollars in tickets, not 1 million tickets.

As for John Carter, honestly, I don't think it will have *that* big an effect, not unless their next couple films also bomb. If Avengers and Brave both make a ton of money, the main thing they will do is "not give an unproven director a 250M budget."

that is correct, 1 million dollars in ticket sales .
Sorry that I didnt make that more clear.
Too bad about JC.
I may still see it though .
