The Avengers - $145 OW, $340 domestic, $850 worldwide.

It wont touch the OW record.

What do you mean by it won't "touch" the OW record? You mean it won't come close, or it won't break it? If it's marketed right and if it's good enough I think it could. John Carter's 25% Friday to Saturday boost came from good WOM, If the Avengers is actually a better than it's hyped up to be than it's possible.

Here's a thought if CBM fans want to help the opening weekend BO gross.

If you've seen it at the midnight viewing or on Friday and want to see it again then skip Saturday and go see it on Sunday.

Sunday usually has a drop because much less of the GA go see movies on Sunday thus fan repeat viewings on Sunday well help boost the BO on that day. Saturday will not need the help.

But I'm going to go see it every day that weekend :)

The OW of Hunger Games will give us a good idea of how the Avengers will open.

^Why? They aren't the same demo. THG veers more towards girls whereas TA is more male driven.

It actually remains to be seen with BOTH films .
Although I expect both to do very well.

I know im the new guy on here, but wow for those of you that are expecting this movie not to do good are out of ya damn mind. I expect this movie to make over 125 million over opening weekend and over 900 million world wide, and have potential to make 1billion.

TA has a track record from previous films that can somewhat be used. THG has nothing in the film realm to point to.

If the HG does over $100m OW, we will know for sure that will be the LOW END for the Avengers.

TA is already all but assured to surpass $100M OW. We knew that a year ago. I'll be stunned if THG gets $100M OW. Right now the best I think it can do is Lorax OW numbers(and that's being generous).

This doesn't really make sense considering seeing it Saturday or Sunday contributes to the same weekend. Nobody would brag about 'best sunday' or 'lowest percentage sunday drop'. Even marketers wouldn't do that.

I think The Avengers has a good chance of crossing the $1B mark worldwide. It's just a feeling I have. But a $800-900M gross isn't chump change either.

Sounds about right, but I would estimate higher for the domestic around $400M and the foreign BO around $300-350M.

$850 million max for the WW BO IMO.

Thing is... Superheroes are big in the US, not so big outside of it.

That is why most superhero movies don't make more than $450M TOPS in foreign marketing, and if Spider-Man or Batman can't do better than this don't expect The Avengers to be any different.

Domestic - It could only make $400M in the US, but it would probably do less, so $850M is likely what it's gonna make.

Most superhero movies have very very little actual action

Overseas audiences LOVE big scale spectacle, and especially big scale 3D spectacle

Comparing Avengers to other superhero movies in terms of overseas appeal is apples to oranges

THG is going to open a lot bigger than Lorax. A lot

SPIDER-MAN didn't have big scale spectacles in it!?

Come on...

That's not it. The reason is far more simple than that. Superheroes is an AMERICAN thing mostly.
Most people outside the US just don't give a crap about people in tights that fight crime. A lot of them do, but most of them don't. They like Pirates (Pirates of the Caribbean) and wizards (Harry Potter) and big robots tearing each other apart (Transformers) much more.

Spider-Man did have big scale action. That's why it grossed 550M overseas back in 2007. Before the explosion in theater counts and 3D bonanza of the past few years

I was talking about all three of them. Even Spider-Man 3.

Facts are, people outside the US just don't give a crap about those movies unless Spider-Man or Batman are in them and even then they don't make as much as POTC or HP.

They don't care about Thor or Cap or Hulk. For them it's basically Iron Man 3, and you could expect it to make as such outside the US.
