As a former Boston gal, I'm glad Morris enjoyed the film.

Yay! Glad to see the positives are back on track

Here's the thing -- the positives were always on track. The Avengers has garnered praise from the vast majority of critics, but sometimes we let the small percentage of bad reviews outweigh all that good in our minds. Over the last two days I've found maybe a dozen positive reviews from critics listed on RT that haven't yet been added there. And there are only 8 negative ones out of 124 thus far.


This movie is a success on every possible level. To see a movie I've waited all my life for be so amazingly good is extremely satisfying to me. I'm enjoying this just as much as I would seeing my team win the Super Bowl.

Ebert's weird with his reviews. Sometimes his reviews I think are quite funny other times I don't get what he is trying to say at all. Other times he seems to be enamored with making sexuality points.

Ebert once proclaimed that Spider-Man 2 was one of the greatest movies he's ever seen and it should've been nominated for best picture but because of politics and basically Academy pretension it wouldn't. Not that he has to think Avengers was better than Spider-Man 2, but in his Avengers review he acts like he's never said such things before.

I also found it odd he cherry-picked a quote from someone else's review. That's not something he usually does.

AO Scott liked Captain America. He didn't like Thor. Which of course seems to be the trend for critics. He could go either way on Avengers. I expect a barely positive review.

I expect the guy from the Wall Street Journal to hate this movie. Other than that, I don't think there are any obvious Top Critics that are guaranteed to hate Avengers.

If the Washington Post assigned TA to Ann Hornaday it's almost guaranteed to be a negative review. That woman hates damn near everything she sees that isn't a low-budget indie or obvious Oscar bait.

I was hoping Ebert gives it a 4/4 or at least 3.5/4 rating which fits in with the majority of critics (that saying that avengers is the or one of the best CMB of all time ) and just like he has given Spiderman 2 , Ironman and the Dark Knight 4/4.

exactly. Over the last couple of days we've had like 4 rotten reviews. That seemed like a rush of negatives but in reality, it was really inconsequential for within that same time frame, we've had over 40 more positive ones. The rottens just stick out more

he also gave batman begins 4/4. I think these are the only superhero movies he has given 4 stars. a very elite bunch.

I'm just glad he gave it a positive. He's clearly sick of these movies.

he doesn't like evans as captain America and didn't like loki as the villian.
and thought the story was simplistic. he did still give it a 8/10 though

Yeah, it's like he's just another person with another opinion.

El Payaso, his review IMHO was not his best work and it was for the most part a glorified summary of the movie. Not much in the way of a "review.'

I was underwhelmed by In and Out Burger. We don't have them where I'm at so the first time I had one in San Francisco I thought it was barely better than McDonalds.

Honestly I felt the same way the first time as well. I think In N Out is one of those places that just gets better for you each time. You need to get it animal style and medium rare though. And get the fries well done.

Also while I wouldn't call it "health food," they use much better quality ingredients than most fast food joints. Less chemicals and more natural food.

Very original something tells me you wouldn't have even written that if I hadn't said anything. To make a long story short, I agree with Andrew O'heir's review. The film is entertaining, but it's more of the same old thing that Hollywood has been spouting out for the majority of comic book films. It's very uninspired. Doesn't even try to offer anything more than "popcorn", you can't honestly tell me that there was character development in the film, there was none.. or that the plot wasn't predictable and uninteresting, that's exactly what it was. If comic fans, like myself, don't start asking for better quality films, they're going to get the same old, boring, heartless, spectacle over and over again.

I let you have that one... but this isn't the post-screening discussion thread so you should prolly take this there.

Absolutely true! And something I need to remember as more reviews go up on RT.

Right now, Avengers does have the distinction of belonging to a small club of summer blockbusters who have 90% or higher on Rotten Tomatoes, no small achievement. I saw someone post about this on boxoffice.com forums -

Excluding animations, only 7 summer blockbusters, have had scores in the 90's since 2000, TDK-94%, SM 2-94%, Star Trek-95%, DH2-96%, Bourne Ultimatum-94%, but 98% amongst top critics with only 1 negative review, Minority Report-93%, IM-94 %...

That is phenomenal, granted if Avengers stays above a 90%, which it does look like it will.

I just have to keep reminding myself about that, especially when people start thinking that a 93% is somehow underwhelming.

You can diss Avengers, TDKR, but I will not - WILL NOT!! - stand for dissing In - N - Out.

Honestly I felt the same way the first time as well. I think In N Out is one of those places that just gets better for you each time. You need to get it animal style and medium rare though. And get the fries well done.

Also while I wouldn't call it "health food," they use much better quality ingredients than most fast food joints. Less chemicals and more natural food.

Boy ain't that the truth. I had a Wendy's hamburger the other day and I swear they are using horse meat and pig lips. It was disgusting.
