I'm not sure if 'giant, shape shifting dragon' will necessarily fit the tone of 'Industrial espionage spy movie' that Shane Black has said is the plan for Iron Man 3.

Lol True, I think Ghost will feature in a major way. "Leviathan" couldn't be front and center. I don't know if it will work this way but if it does I think the Leviathan would be taking a backseat in the movie. Hanging out in the cave sort of recovering. And would pass up some of its powers to someone.
Do you know if Mandarin's still even planned to be in the third? I remember when they were saying they had to introduce the magic in Thor before Mandarin would work.

Well, with industrial espionage, I wouldn't be surprised if Mandarin was some sort of Chinese business mogul or something, or head of a rival corporation. He could have been funding the ten rings, and perhaps has come across some powerful item or something, that is if they want to go with the magic-tech angle, otherwise I imagine it'll just be technology he's created.

Why do Mandarin's rings have to be magical, like in the 616 universe? They can create a new Mandarin where his rings are powered by something more tech-based, so he can be the industrial rival of Tony Stark. If they can combine Crimson Dynamo and Whiplash together in IM2, I don't see why they must be slave to the 616 and their version. I can see that perhaps like with Howard Stark, the Mandarin was somehow able to get some source of power from the Cosmic Cube, and he used this infinite energy source to power the rings, and made them compact to fit around his fingers. This is kind of origin that can tie to the MCU, have both tech and mystic elements tied to the rings, and remain somewhat faithful to the original Mandarin.

to be honest some people over there CBM do get SOME info right. I do trust Marvel Freshman over others there

This is one reason why I think that no one should be a complete hater when it comes to that website.

I'm thinking it is exactly that: tech based on magic and has everything to do with Ghost's ability to turn invisible, and phase through solid matter with his suit. If Mandarin is in then the dragon will only give him one of the ring's powers to transfer to his tech while its recovering. And he'll use Ghost the whole time and spring it on Iron Man at the end.

No one should be a complete hater of anything, they should apply rational and critical thinking to every situation.

Let's be honest they will not name the creature (assuming the info is correct...and I hope it is) since past Marvel films have been reluctant at best to use character names.

Neither Black Widow or Hawkeye used their codenames. Whiplash is also no referenced. Abomination, Iron Monger, and Red Skull were only referenced in an off-handed manner. So the likeliehood of Marvel calling this creature anything is slim.

Well maybe I'm missing something because I don't see why there's such an issue about Mandarin since they can just use alien tech looks like magic idea that was used in Thor and will be used in Avengers.

Aren't Mandarin's rings basically of alien origin anyway?

Yes indeedy, but I don't see them following that entirely. So it's likely the ten rings organization acquires and uses the alien/mystical/advanced science in a way that works with the Iron Man movies, so they somehow transfer the shapeshifting abilities to Ghost's suit to make him a master infiltrator. Giving him his ghost-like abilities to turn translucent and to phase through matter.

I really want to see Mandarin with some powers too but fire probably won't work. Ice blasts we've seen before.

Quick question: Do you think Iron Man is unable to be frozen by ice blasts by Loki now after fixing the icing problem on the suit in the first Iron Man? Or would any magical ice blast be way too powerful?

well in the Movieverse magic IS science. :D

Weighing in on the 'Leviathan' issue, I'm leaning more towards a version of Fin Fang Foom. Remember FFF is a Makluan; a sentient reptilian alien race whose genetics are such that they have wide phenotypic expression of size. Thus they have human sized ones, such as the one the Mandarin acquired his 10 rings from, and gigantic ones, such as FFF.

The gun weaponry seen used by the invading force on set suggests that at least part of LOKI's army are straightforward alien beings with alternate/advanced technology.

This would correlate well with this and could be used to establish links with IRON MAN III wrt the Mandarin and his Makluan ring technology.

In relation to this Leviathan thing.... I always go back to what Harry Knowles posted back in August...

I haven't read the script, but I've talked to someone who has. I know way more about this film than I really want to know. BUT - I don't know how the dialogue is, what the scene constructions are, what the relationships are like. I don't know the specifics of the action, but the scope of it. And the draft that was read, never specified what came out of the dimensional portal as being aligned with any specific Marvel alien race. Wasn't described as SKRULL or KREE. Flying chariots? check. Giant monsters? check. Super Science? Check. Going to be epic. Unless it all looks stupid, but these pics look badass. So I'm inclined to think badass.

I'm cool with it just being so huge monster that doesn't have a name.

I'm just playing with ya RIM. Just a little joke on supervillain fashion working against espionage.

Still, the black and red is a good costume though. It's a nice update on a very dated look. Not so fond of the black and white suit, seems like a techno Spider-man with guns.

I'm still hoping for Mandarin above any of the other names for IM3 though.

The thing is that MARVEL STUDIOS loves the Marvel Comics Universe to the point where virtually nothing we have seen has been derived from that in some way with the exception of a few specific characters, mainly Agent Coulson and Dr. Eric Selvig, and the Jotun beast.

Also it's obvious that they are going to great lengths to keep certain things secret.

I would suspect that people 'without clearance level 7' (LOL) would read drafts that would keep the details under wraps.
