Strange, my recollection of why Wally wasnt as fast as Barry was his mental block/subconscious speed restriction that he unknowingly placed upon himself, brought about by his fear of replacing Barry and eventually becoming a better Flash. I didnt think it was actually anything to do with the Speed Force [in fact, I dont even think Waid had featured it yet at that point] - did he then introduce the Speed Force and claim it was all down to that? I havent read Flash for a while.
Like sister series Arrow, The CWs The Flash plans to surround its central character with a few familiar faces from its comic origins.
Word is Hispanic hero Cisco Ramon aka Vibe will be fighting crime alongside senor speedy on the David Nutter-directed pilot.
In his 20s, the cheeky Ramon fought his underprivileged upbringing to become one of the smartest, most talented chaps around; when it comes to mechanical engineering, theres nobody better. Somewhat of a metahuman, the guys main power is his ability to emit powerful vibratory shock waves.
In the comics, Ramon would ultimately inherit a place in the Justice League of America.
Its rumoured that the character, should he prove popular, could become a regular on the series.
The Flash begins filming in Vancouver in March.
Oh wow big surprise. You can really tell just how hard of a grip Johns has on this show. I'm gonna be seriously upset if Captain Cold/Leanord Snart isn't a regular here. He needs to be like Lex to Clark in Smallville. Show their stories as a parallel. Flash gets his powers and we see him taking his first steps to becoming a true hero and Cold on the other end after seeing what the Flash can do deduces that cold could be his one true weaknesses (slowing down the vibration of his molecules) and we get to see him create his first freeze gun and subsequently start forming The Rogues, who should be like side characters who pop in every few episodes here and there but not exactly regulars. Then, you can also show The Rogues having to team up with Flash to take down bigger threats to Central City. Cold has to be a regular here. It's the one thing that I feel NEEDS to be an integral part of the show
Alright, here's the scoop. In pilot episode for The Flash, there is a character called "Detective Eddie Thawne" which sounds a lot like Eobard Thawne, the name of Professor Zoom. Now, that's not a lot to go on, so I did some additional digging and it turns out that he may very well become the villain we all know and love. The description for the character states that he is "leading man handsome" (late 20s-early/mid 30s) and has recently transferred to Central City Police Department from Keystone. Thawne is set to be loved within the precinct and takes the credit for a lot of things that Barry can't. (We assume this'll mean he takes credit for some of The Flash's work, but that's just speculation on our part). However, the most intriguing part about this character is that his past will be a complete mystery. No one knows where he comes from, and he "harbors a dark secret". That does sound very ambiguous, but as a comic fan, it's easy to put one-and-one together to make two.
Well, he is one-third of the pilot's writing team...
So at what point do you decide something doesn't make up a character or not? Obviously how he looks isn't important in your opinion - so what else do you determine is unimportant to a character?
I think the question who should be asking, more so than costumes and Wally West, is classic Rouges or N52 Rogues?
How he looks is important, but small changes to his look - jawline/facial features/skin tone aren't. No one makes a big fuss about Gustin not looking just like Alex Ross Flash... why should I make a big fuss about Arrow-verse Wally not looking like Michael Turner Flash?
Also mentions an openly gay character. Pretty obvious that one would be Singh.

This will be interesting. The fact that they're making Thawne a part of the Central City police should quell some peoples' problems with him not being a "contemporary" threat...sounds like they're merging Thawne and Hunter Zolomon a little, which actually sounds kind of cool - like they're taking the "best' from both characters (although I always preferred Thawne to Zolomon all around, but some cool things were still done with Zolomon, IMO).Interesting.
EDIT: I do hope they will be keeping the whole time travelling villain thing in tact and that Thawne WILL be from the future...
Having Thawne working at the CCPD in the present also finds a way to make him a regular character on the show that interacts with the rest of the main cast on the show regularly before showing up as a "villain" (in costume, powers, etc), so I could see why they'd go that route I suppose.
Alex Ross Flash being the "definitive" looking Flash for many is debatable, first off (I hate how he draws the ear pieces for instance and think it's one of his weaker portrayals), Gustin is serviceable for many comic book drawings of Barry Allen as Flash (DC: The New Frontier, old Barry Allen comics, Barry has been portrayed as sort of lankey looking at times), and you're comparing subtleties in drawings to major, obvious differences like the color of someone. It's not that a black dude wouldn't look like Michael Turner's Wally West, it's that he wouldn't look like ANY Wally West.
I always thought that Thawne was much more interesting than Zolomon. It's almost like they're diluting the character by merging them like this
That's my personal opinion of course. I'm sure that they're going to keep the time traveling portion in though. Remember Barry mentions "seeing a person" in the blur that killed his mother. That part of the story seems locked in. However, the relationship and rivalry that Barry/Eobard develop was very deep and very cool in the comics. That's one part I wish they wouldn't tinker with - and I'm usually laid back with changed origins (within reason).
I guess we'll see where this heads.
I guess I don't think of the color of someone's skin is a major difference,
unless their culture makes a major difference. Same with hair color.
Same with facial features, I don't go through and say 'well, no Wally West had this nose, so BLARGHABLARGH.'
I think race has been made to be a bigger deal than it is (which is saying something, because sometimes it's a really big deal)... but sometimes... it's just not.
What if they started coloring Sinestro orange or rainbow colored instead of purple?
Blonde Superman?
Except that Wally West isn't black...at all.
