Arrow The Barry Allen/The Flash Thread - Part 2

All this talk of JWS being on The Flash made me put in my DVD watched a few episodes. Kevin Smith you're right that show is amazing. I would rate it one of the best superhero shows though. I would say the best superhero show of its time.

Well if you look at all the comic book based live action superhero shows, consider their source material and over all quality, and consider what's the most that could be done at the time, The Flash TV show with John Wesley Ship is head and shoulders above any superhero show ever made. It was serious, they got the costume and powers right, the stories were good.... it was a very good rendition of a superhero as far as TV goes. I'd say Incredible Hulk follows as second, that show was awesome, and the characterizations were excellent in it, I loved Bill Bixby as Dr Banner, he is to this day my favorite to have played the role, and the show was before my time. After that I'd say the old Adventures of Superman show from the '50s with George Reeves would come in third, if you look at it objectively and consider what they could do at the time and look at that as tantamount to what they can do today it really is a pretty terrific adaptation as far as TV goes. And in 4rth place I'm putting yes, the Adam West Batman TV show. Yes it was hokey and campy and supposed to be that way but it helped Batman survive for a long time, and the camp really only comes through depending on the age of the viewer in a way, but minus the camp, look at how much the show got right in a way, and the show is also very consistent on the whole...that's how I look at it, and I find it very enjoyable in that regard and entertaining to watch on its own. While Batman: TAS remains my favorite version of Batman, I enjoy the Adam West show for what it was, and that is one of the best as far as superhero TV shows go, and I look at it as its own thing which is exactly what it tried to be in a sense.

Agreed wholeheartedly. I really hope this series manages to show that The Flash is more than just a dude who can run really fast.

I agree.

I hope he steals the spotlight from those also-rans Quicksilvers that are getting movies, I hope the show is that good. :hehe: :D

Going off the music they used in Barry Allen's scenes on Arrow, I'd say that we're not getting anything on the same level as Shirley Walker's work

Yeah....the music in his scenes in Arrow I will admit DID sound a little "TASM"-lite...not that that is horrible, there are worse things to be.... We can always hope for a new composer as it will be a different show though but nobody really writes good, strong, defined, hummable, bold, epic super tunes anymore. Idk why that has went the way of the dodo, I'm thinking maybe it started around the same time Hollywood started being apologetic for superheroes maybe and didn't want to do TOO much of a "superhero" thing when doing a superhero thing because they didn't know how audiences would feel about that yet...I hope to see a return to that form someday, personally.

It would be nice (assuming that Shipp is Jay) that the composer quotes the Elfman theme or Walker's secondary theme when he uses super speed. I don't care if it's quoted once, but I doubt they'll do it with royalties and all.

And Shipp being Barry from the future also works for me as well. I'm just glad he's on board.

Any nod to Shirley's work would always be welcomed to me.

And I'm really just happy Shipp is involved, too happy to complain he's not playing Jay Garrick or "X ____ specific character", I think it's just great that he's there....I'll be pretty happy whoever he plays. :)

That music felt really out of place. It made too big of a deal out of this guy being someone important, when both the script and Gustin's performance intentionally underplayed that.

Arrow has done that from time to time. I really like the show's score/music but sometimes they use it where it's not needed. For instance, take the last episode. I was fine with Oliver and Sara hooking up at the end, it made sense. However, the cheesy music that played over that scene was really unnecessary and it was really noticeable to me. I had a similar reaction to the Barry scene.

^ as soon as the song started to play I knew they would ****. I've never had a problem with the music and score they use ( I really like the score )

Would the Flash Season 1 finale be too soon? They could have JWS's character be mysterious all season and end with "I'm you, from the future."

It depends on how fast they progress Thawne on his villainous track.

But it's too soon to cast for the Flash Season 1 finale. Shipp isn't Barry from the future and he isn't best spent on such a role. Dean Cain and Christopher Reeve were great for Smallville, but they didn't need to be Kal-El from the future or Jor-El from the past. That would have been a mistake, imho.

Considering that Thrawne is the big bad of the show...i don't think time travel is out of the question.

It's not out of the question, it's just too soon.

The best picture I've seen anyone do. God I love this. I will do cartwheels if Grant's suit on the show looks anything like this. Please, CW/WB, please make this happen.

I ain't even going to say anything about the chin strap it looks so good. :D

Jesus, Yes... :atp:

But it seems as if he's already on his villainous track if we go by why Barry said about his father and his mother's death.

That is fantastic.

It's reasonable to assume he used time travel to go back and murder Barry's mother. Since we don't know when he goes back to do that, we can also assume that he does it some point after the first episode.

Do you guys think that this show is going to have the same dark/gritty tone as Arrow? I mean, obviously, it will probably inherently be lighter but then again the JWS series had a pretty dark, noir atmosphere to it. Hey, it worked well for it though.

Good god that poster. So good.
Grant Gustin is going to look so hot in his flash costume. Mmmm

So cool :hrt:
It looks like an updated version of the 90s costume.

I don't think so. I'm not sure I want it to, either. I feel like it'll be more lighthearted, but definitely serious.

That Poster truly looks amazing. Please let the suit look like that.

Poster is well done. The helmet is pretty wack, imho. It reminds me of the Captain America Avengers suit to a degree. Might have looked good in concept art, but the helmet design doesn't translate into real life in a cool way.

"Already" doesn't really mean the same thing once time travel gets involved. If Thawne is going to grow into Zoom, or be revealed to be Zoom, he may go back and do that at any time in the show's run, but most likely for a climactic moment where he's revealed and galvanized as a true villain. Not when we're just getting to know him as a police detective who has a relationship with Barry.

the write up on Thrawne leads me to believe he is from the future posing as a cop....a recent transfer with a mysterious past

The difference is, in the concept art it looked like an actual cowl, but in the Movie they made it a solid helmet. Also, they already pulled off the cowl in the old TV show.

Except for the covered nose. :o

Oh wow I actually didn't even know it was a "helmet", it looked like a cowl to me. Guess I didn't look closely enough. I thought it was supposed to be a cowl. Meh. Well either way I think a cowl is fine and would work perfectly and definitely don't want to see a Cap style helmet....didn't like that about the Cap movie suits much at all with how it looked. Cowl is the only way to go for The Flash.
