Kevin just seems like a purist fanboy. That if nothing is modeled after or resembles his favorite iteration of the character, then it's garbage and bad. And that it's a fact.

Ooh, I like this:

Here's hoping they switch the symbol to white!

I like it...looks like the Flash to me

Guys, I think we can all agree on one thing:

The three-time Oscar winning costume designer that made this suit must feel JUST TERRIBLE that this costume doesn't 100% match what has been done in comic-form and would LOVE to take into account the suggestions/concerns of a handful of nitpicky Hypesters.

:o

Hey now, it doesn't 60% match it, either! No you're right, I doubt a big shot costume designer concerns himself much with adhering to what's been drawn in "coloring book" for nearly 60 years. That old thing just HAD to go. No, the big shot costume designer obviously has to stroke his ego and change the uniform just CUZ - far be it from him to not leave his artistic mark on it in a way that overlaps the way the character is supposed to look, right? LOL. Hell with Carmine Infantino, what's he know? Neal Adams, Barry Kitson, all those guys - bunch of amateurs.

:lmao:

I hate you.

Yeah I know. And it's stupid there too. :lmao:

Yet it compliments Gustin's chin than it ever does on paper. Surely you know not every costume design going to have the same touch as James Achenson's Spider-Man costume.

I still like it, I believe they will improve on the suit as the show goes on. If you think of it like how the Spiderman movies started with the prototype suit the it evolved with Peter into the one we know and love, you may feel a bit better. I think this is just the beginning of something that has the potential to progress into something amazing.

People should just let Kevin Smith vent, we all have certain things that we love so much that we are very protective towards change. Mine is the F4 and the horrid looking reboot.

Ethan Van Sciver is far from the best Flash artist though, not a good reference for how the ear pieces should look if you ask me. The suit looks great to me, the only part I'd change is the belt. The ear pieces are an improvement actually.

Ethan Van Sciver draws the best ear pieces though.... if not the best in that particular aspect, certainly in the top 5. I only sited him because the ear pieces the way he draws them look like how they'd appear in live action.

The ear pieces on Gustin's suit look like they just half assed The Flash logo and stuck it to the sides of his head. Not the least bit creative, IMO.

Don't you have a favorite version of anything or something you think looks best?

Actually I know the wings are about the Greek messenger thing, but the lightening bolts just make more sense to me. They look good.

Okay. A couple of things.

1) The belt is awful. Easily the worst design element.

2) The cowl is awesome. It fits Grant well, and I'm interested in seeing how well he'll be able to turn his head in it. I can already tell we'll be seeing some unpleasant wrinkling in the neck area from time to time (which won't bother me).

3) In a way, it looks like they just took Oliver's costume and painted it two different shades of red. That isn't necessarily a bad thing. Either way, you can definitely tell that the creative team behind Arrow was responsible for this costume's creation.

4) I like the colors, but I'm not sure how I feel about the gold on the boots.

5) The chin strap actually looks good.

6) I feel like the costume could use a bit more gold trim on the legs.

7) I really like the ear pieces.

8) That manip that was posted with the brighter colors? No thank you. I'll take the white background for the emblem, though.

Overall? I like it. If I had to rate it based on these set photos, I'd give it a 7/10. I can't wait to see it in action, where it will undoubtedly look even better.

On a slightly unrelated note: if I see the name "Ethan Van Sciver" mentioned in this thread one more time, I might shoot myself in the face.

Fair enough. But it goes both ways. Linking the two universes limits the Arrow-verse/whatever we're calling it just as much as the films. I'd rather both be able to go full-tilt instead of having to worry about what the other side is doing.

Agreed.

They're nitpicks to you.

Thank you for your intellectually stimulating analysis.

You act as though it's an impossibility when it's not.

Because it is an impossibility. You will never get a suit 100% accurate to what you wanted. This is due to the costume designers having no possible way to read your mind, or consider your preferences as the law (for the record, there are certain aspects of the suit I'm not too fond of either).

Yes they are set photos but they are the clearest and most honest looks at the suit we've got yet and I know they will change them for when the show airs, true the initial promo images they revealed were not bad but they were cleverly shot a certain way only to reveal certain things and keep other more controversial/ radical changes hidden as I suspected (oh yeah, there's the zipper and the Flash coat, lol...no sneakers though so I guess I was wrong on that at least).

They're also low quality. Plus, you're acting as if somehow this is a new thing that breaks the status quo. Most live-action suits all had "clear" full body shots that were set photos while the first official ones didn't reveal everything. They do this because they don't want to give it the "wow" feeling away when you finally see full shots of these characters in action. A lot of those set shots were also poorly received at first.

Lol. "Everyone thinks your a loser why don't you just go hooome!" your way of taunting I guess. Cute. Yes, I'm aware, I was reading, so you're pretty much saying to get with the majority view and the program and swallow this bullcrap or go home.

No thanks. I'll take what I know to be The Flash over your CW bs. Hopefully the pilot will be better than the costume.

Umm...no. That's not "my way of taunting". But once again, thank you for your intellectually stimulating analysis.

I would also suggest you act in a more mature manner. Your attitude and wording implies that you are fourteen. You're bringing it on yourself. Don't act like your opinion is the sole reason why people made fun of you. It's entirely your attitude. Just a word of advice.

I actually hate it. I am beyond excited about the show as I to this day love the John Wesley Shipp Flash series. I still watch it every once in a while in fact. Having said that I feel like even though the original series suit may not hold up well by today's standards, I honestly prefer it and find it vastly superior. Had they simply used a similar material to the amazing Spider-Man suit (a skin tight more form fitted material) and just done a pretty much direct translation of the classic comic book Flash costume it would have been ideal. This idea that the the traditional comic book suit somehow won't translate to live action makes absolutely no sense. It's no more outlandish in terms of design and look than the comic book Spiderman costume yet it is perfectly translated in Amazing Spider-Man 2. I just don't understand why they couldn't go with something similar for this Flash costume. I would still like to check out the show but I am unfortunately a little less excited.

Nope I sure don't, the only things I have an obsession for are the things I create myself. Then what I like is law and nobody's opinion means anything to me personally.

The Flash is my favorite superhero (not Barry, but still The Flash), I'm always open to reinterpretations of classic costumes. As a Time Drake fan I've loved every one of his costumes. I think this one works in the context of the Arrow universe, plus, knowing Barry he will tweak as the series progresses I'm sure.

I'm really easy to please though, just so excited that we're actually getting a new live action Flash TV show in the same universe as Arrow!

This DD looks pretty red to me.

And this Flash looks pretty burgundy to me.

Your made up rules about their colours seem invalid.

Lol...shadow on Flash now = burgundy, I love it. The Flash has always been drawn red, crimson, or scarlet, never burgundy. DD has appeared burgundy before, there IS a difference (I'm an artist, I know what I'm talking about), but the comments that the new Flash suit looks like the DareDevil movie suit are about the texture/leathery look of it combined with the color and how much that looks like DD and not just the color itself.

I'm with ya on all points, my brotha. I also gotta say that I do like that it's not all made out of the same material and has more than one texture to it, but it's not overcomplicated or made out of 30 different materials as other more hyperbolic posters have stated.

I know it'll look so much better in the context of the show. I'm excited.

I think that's what they're going for. It's his first suit. It's going to look a bit less professional. I wouldn't be surprised if he upgrades to yellow boots and all in future seasons.

Ok, let me tell you something: I really like The Flash. Ok, maybe not as much as you do, but I like him a lot. And I definitely don't love the suit.

But seriously... now you're just acting like a childish fanboy. I swear, I'm saying this with all due respect. You sound like a childish fanboy. Stop.
