I think the current Batman movies (Batman Begins and The Dark Knight) are good. But if i was to recast/reboot the franchise. I would have to do it in the form of a trilogy and would be multi-layered.
Movie 1
The story would essentially be an origin story however multi-layed to set up for two more sequels. The villian of this movie would be The Black Mask, and will feature alot of characters from Gotham City. Basically the story revolves around Roman and Bruce who grew up together and became best of friends. This was largely due to the fact that Roman's father and Bruces father were partners in Wayne Enterprises. However Roman's father had other plans and paid for Joe Chill to kill Bruces father. To which the story reverts to the comic book story of the event. However, Roman's father is found out, and is sent to jail. Wayne enterprises came under control of Lucius Fox until Bruce was of age. Many years later Bruce and Roman who still remained friends even after those events now run Wayne Enterprises. However unbeknown to Bruce Roman is still taking orders from his father who is in jail. Roman plots to have Bruce commited in Arkham as clinicly insain which would then give Roman full control over Wayne Enterprises. Roman hires Dr.Jonathan Crane to use his secrete forumla to make Bruce Insain. It works and even after a trial in court, Dr.Crane has Bruce moved to Arkham. Harvey Dent was Bruces lawyer who had never lost a case and so when Bruce was commited Harvey takes this as a personal fault of his own and takes to drinking. A year goes by, Wayne Enterprises now in control of all contracts starts making dodgy dealings. Bruce becomes tormented by Dr.Crane who uses his scarecrow persona to face his fear "Bats", Gotham enters into an age of crime. Vikki Vale a news reporter is given the story of the life of fallen billionare Bruce Wayne. She decides to visit him in Arkham where she and Dr.Hugo Strange discover Dr.Crane tormenting Bruce. As Dr.Crane is taken away by Gotham Police and certified insain, Hugo Strange who is head of Arkham is then forced to review all of Dr.Cranes patiants and discovers Bruce is sain and frees him. Bruce thanks Vikki and a love interest occures. Bruce with the help of Vikki Vale investigate what exactly happened to him and learn that Roman hired Dr.Crane which made Bruce realize that Roman has always been under the control of his father, before returning to Wayne Enterprises, Bruce with the help of Lucius Fox who is no longer a board member but works in applied science, to spy on Roman. Bruce uses advanced technology to break into Romans office however he is confronted by The Black Mask (who is actually Roman) The Black Mask is the boss of all organised crime in Gotham, which was something Bruce heard as a myth before he was locked away in Arkham. After a fight which Bruce looses, Bruce realises he must become something more, after realizing Gotham has become more dangerous than ever, he decides to become a symbol of hope. With the help of Lucious Fox and Alfred his butler he becomes Batman. As Batman he begins his investigation into The Black Mask and his connection to Roman. Not long after he discover that The Black Mask is Roman, Roman manages to break his father out of prision by realising Dr.Crane as the Scarecrow as a distraction. Bruce/Batman then faces against Scarecrow and wins. As Roman and his father attempt to escape Batman tracks them down to there hideout where Roman and Batman fight, During the fight Romans father is killed and Roman is defeated, He asks who he is to which Batman reveals himself as Bruce Wayne. Laughing Roman has a gun and goes to fire it at Bruce however is shot dead by Harvey Dent who had been investigating the reason why he lost his case and thus lead him to Roman hiring Dr.Crane and was at the warehouse at the time Batman and Roman appeared. Dent agrees to help Bruce put away the criminals of Gotham. Thus kick starting Dent's career again.

Movie 2
The story will see Bruce really rising up as Batman, The story will follow on from the aftermath of the first movie, with The Black Mask gone, Gotham's organised crime has no leader and fractions start to appear. The Joker has turned up and has set his sights on The Batman. It is revealed that The Joker is someone Bruce already knows from Arkham, Pre-Joker or Jack as he was known was freed from Arkham like Bruce had Dr.Crane as a doctor also like Bruce Dr.Crane was tormenting Jack... Jack had been in Arkham for several years, The Joker represents what could of happened to Bruce if he hadnt of escaped from Arkham. The Joker basically was put away for a petty crime but believes Gotham owes him for all the torment Dr.Crane had put him through. His first target is Harvey Dent who was Dr.Crane's lawyer at the time that caused Jack to end up in Arkham. During a circus event in Gotham which was funded by Wayne Enterprises, The Joker causes a fire to breakout which was aimed to trap Harvey, Harvey is rescued by Bruce but becomes scared. The Flying Graysons an acrobatic team end up being caught up in the fire and dies, leaving Grayson without his family. In Hospital, Harvey is being seen by Dr.Fries as Bruce visits, Harvey has burn scares down one side of his face. it is clear that Harvey has been traumatised by these events and blames Bruce whom he knows to be Batman for not catching The Joker already. As Bruce leaves, he sees Grayson being checked out in the outpatiants. After feeling that he let down Harvey he offers Grayson a home at Wayne Manner until he is able to sort himself out which Grayson excepts. Later Bruce meets up with Lucious Fox who now has an assistant, who is Edward Nashton. Nashton is a technology genius who was assigned to help Fox in applied science however he knows nothing of Bruce's alterego, Nashton unknownly helps make advanced tracking devices which then helps Batman trackdown The Joker's wearabouts. The Joker finds out that Harvey survived and goes to visit him in hospital, seeing him disfigured in hospital The Joker who finds it funny brandish him Two-Face for only thinking about his career than letting an innocent man get put in Arkham, refering to himself when he was Jack. However he offers him an alternative, to repent for his sins. The Joker invites Harvey to help him kill The Batman. As Harvey knows who Batman is, he agrees. in order to cover his tracks The Joker sets fire to the hospital, which leads to Dr.Fries wife who was also a nurse at the hospital trapped in the fire. Harvey asks to meet with Bruce to discuss a possible lead on the Joker. Unbeknown to Bruce he is knocked onconcius by Harvey who now calls himself two-face and is then taken to The Joker. Unbeknown to Harvey Bruce has the new tracking system on him which Alfred was listening in on. With Bruce gone, Alfred and Lucius discuss options, either were too old to rescue him. To which they turn there eyes towards Grayson whom already expressed support for what Batman was doing and also wants revenge on The Joker for killing his family. Grayson is given one of the Batman suits. Bruce discovers that Harvey and The Joker are working together, The Joker believes that having Batman around will stop his fun in Gotham, and Harvey blames Bruce not only for not stopping the Joker sooner but for influencing others to be more theatrical. Before anything is done Grayson as Batman and stops Harvey from killing Bruce, In mid fight Grayson frees Bruce revealing telling him he's Grayson and he is after The Joker. So Grayson as Batman fights The Joker and Bruce tries to reason with Harvey/Two-Face whom end up in a fight... Harvey is so confused in his head that he is unable to make a decesion, to which he attempts to flip a coin which goes wrong when he tries to catch it and falls out of the building to his death. Grayson and Joker fight and just as Joker goes to kill Grayson believing him to be batman, Bruce knocks him out with an Iron bar saving Grayson. The Joker is then sent back to arkham and a funeral takes place for Harvey. During the funeral Bruce offers Grayson the oppertunity to join him, to which Grayson agrees but wants his own alter-ego.

Movie 3
Which will be the concluding part of the Trilogy, The story focuses on Robin whom is taking on smaller missions to help him better hone in on his skills. In a cameo role Robin stops a female buglar from stealing diamonds from a jewlers. The Woman is a young Selina Kyle whom is sent to Gothams juvenile prison. Whilst there she the press names her the Cat Woman Buglar. Which draws the attension of Harley Quinn another prisoner there whom asks her how she was able to break in of a highly secure facility. Learning on how she did it, Harley is then able to escape the prison. She is then met by Osward Cobblepot an associate The Joker and funded his rampage in Gotham in the previous film. The Joker had set out a plan to become the new head of organised crime in Gotham. However he knew he was unable to do so with The Batman about, so as The Joker he provided a distraction from the work Cobblepot and Harley Quinn was working on. Cobblepot is an arms dealer and has delt with Lucius Fox previously, Cobblepot then kidnaps Lucius to help him build weapons. With Lucius gone Bruce turns to Edward Nashton to build tools for Batman, Bruce reveals that Wayne Enterprises funds Batman to which Edward is happy to help. Harley and Cobblepot are then able to free The Joker from prison, the three of them fight Batman and Robin but in the fight Cobblepot is killed, we later see Gordon helping onn the investigation, later Gordons daughter who cameos identifies the woman whom is Harley Quinn as someone she knew from her school. As they begin to track them down, Bruce discovers that The Joker then frames Batman for crimes by leaving tools that were design by Fox around some of The Jokers sights. Batman discovers the location of The Joker and is able to defeat the Joker with the help of Robin whom captures Harley Quinn. Although it seems like a victory, essentially The Joker had set up a series of events that leads to the downfall of many people. Batman is framed causing the death of several people, in doing so an investigation is looking into companies that are building his devics so Bruce is forced to close down its applied science. Which means Edward Nashton is out of a job. However at the end of the movie a throw away scene is put in which shows a badley beaten up Joker is the jails hosptial and his doctor is Dr.Fries who plans to kill the Joker. the outcome is left unknown.
