The Amazing Spider-Man The Box Office Thread

^^ It might make more. Remember, it is Spider-Man.

It's possible, but I'm thinking about how people will react to a different cast and take.

It's hard to tell at this point though.

We better hope this makes alot in it's first two weeks, because after that TDKR is going to come in like Godzilla. This should hold up, but that depends on how many people will see it. Perhaps people will all want to see Spider-Man in those first two weeks and then go to TDKR, and Spider-Man could be pretty much spent. So hope that it makes a good enough amount.

You can bet your bottom dollar that those first 2 weeks, spider-man is going to rape the BO. The lead cast and the marketing power this movie will have will ensure that this movie will be propelled financially to a level that may surprise many people here.

I just still don't see this making more than 300 million. It's a reboot and the GA is always wary of a reboot no matter how smoothly you transition to it.

Nobody expected spider-man to make $150million in 3 days. Expect the unexpected.

The first and third Spider-Man movies were expected to break the opening weekend record, and they did.

But the reboot doesn't have a normal 3-day weekend or even the now-standard 5-day. This is going to be an unorthodox 6-day opening - in part because they want some of the July 4th business and also because going for that long helps it get to $100 million.

Reboot shmeboot... Any Spidey fan will see this movie. Any kid will see this movie, along with anyone who gets "wowed" by the trailer. I'm predicting loads of cash.

Money by any means necessary.

You are absolutely, unequivocally goddam right, my friend.

I just don't get how people could be reacting negatively to this new cast? I mean, both Andrew and Emma are WAY better than Maguire and Dunst. And after the disaster called Spider-Man 3...a reboot should be more than welcome.

Nearly a billion dollars worldwide doesn't mean the GA wanted a reboot. And most of that money is because of them. They liked it. Comic book fans, movie fans and critics were really the only people who don't like it. The GA loves those films. People have grown up with them and to them it's their Spider-Man.

A reboot all of sudden won't cause it to fail, but I don't think it will make as much. But it is Spider-Man. So there's that. This movie has to look damn good for people to want to see it.

^Which is a good thing fortunately. Because Sony HAS to make a great and deep movie and not just great trailers to be able to beat TDKR I think now after the huge popularity Batman's got with TDK.

Why does everyone think something has to be deep? Why can't I just go to the goddamn movies and have a fun time away from reality?

Considering the downward trend, domestically speaking, of the Spider-Man franchise, I would think the trend will continue especially considering it's a reboot. Like others have said, the GA grew up on the previous films and liked the cast, so I would expect this new entry to take a hit domestically even with 3D.

There are things to be explored about Spider-Man that would be a waste not to take advantage of and apply that to film, but yes, there should be fun as well. It depends on what the film or character you're dealing with is. Spider-Man should have themes running through it while being alot of fun.

Well, I'd like to see those sides of spider-man also, but I meant more of something like Iron Man, which remains my favorite superhero series, mainly in the sense of them doing nothing but trying to make fun movies. Sure, there are serious aspects to them, but I saw Iron Man three times, and IM2 5 times for a reason.

^^ The Iron Man series is probably my second favorite superhero film serieds. Spider-Man franchise is my favorite, obviously.

Batman Begins says otherwise. How do you explain the huge jump in TDK box office:huh:

Tons of people didn't flock to Begins because of a bad previous movie and it being a reboot. Now it seems everyone loves Batman Begins but it barely made a profit domestic.

lol.

Look, I love Marc Webb, I love the cast, and I think the movie will rock....But I don't think this film is going to make as much coin as people in here would have you believe.

I think the movie will do fine, it is Spider-Man for ****s sakes. Most popular superhero in the world, though Batman and Iron Man have caught up with Spider-Man. People will still see this movie, it won't shatter records or break the bank, but it'll do fine.

I don't think anybody has argued that it won't do fine.

You're right again chaseter, how could I forget that Spider-Man has as many previous crummy movies as Batman. Must've slipped my mind.

That figure... nearly a Billion Dollars WW reads to me.. the GA are fans of Spider-Man, not Tobey, not Kirsten, not Raimi. Spider-Man fans, fans of advernture, characters they can care about, root for... Spider-Man in general.. fans of.

Yeah, I am sure there were some who were "specific" fans of Tobey and Co, and some who had grown into that category of being comfortable with Tobey and Co in those roles. But those, to me, will quickly grow to love the new cast, and probably MORE so IMO.

As far as attacting the teen audience, the reboot is probably good too. Younger cast, more visible/high profile cast with the leads too.

But the main point is.. that figures shows the drawing power that is Spider-Man. Give us a good story, with real drama, with realism, and adult storylines.... and I think we all could be in for a pleasant (assuming we are ALL really Spider-Man fans here, and not Raimi, or Tobey, or Kirsten)... "surprise".

There were many people who didn't even know BB existed until just before, during and even after TDK came out.
