Deadline is oftentimes very conservative with its predictions, which is ok I guess when they're based on early numbers. But I recall their initial GOTG2 and WW predictions being notably below BO actuals. I suspect SMH will end up closer to 120M (if not exceed that) than 105M.

Sorry, I liked the first Apes reboot with Franko, I thought the second one was stupid, not a fan of this franchise.

And based on that alone you want it to fail? Heck, I enjoy both franchises, but I certainly wouldn't want one quality film to be a bust in favor of another. Baby Driver is a spectacular film, but I'm certainly not asking for Homecoming to be a bomb just so an Edgar Wright film can eclipse it at the box office.

That'd be petty.

I don't get the Apes franchise. I don't know what else needs to be said. The first one was OK. Other than the special effects the second one was pure crap. I have no desire to watch the third. If you do, go for it.

I want both SMH and Apes to make bank.

I love both franchises.

By why did you want it to fail?

I'm still a little confused by your post.

Considering how formulaic and predictable the 2nd movie was, that appeals to a limited audience, I'd rather see a movie that has broad appeal and feels fresh succeed over it.

The two films are going to effect each other's box office performance, I'd rather have SMH come out the winner.

Also Fox sucks, so there's that.

This is the third live-action Spider-Man and you believe there'll be nothing familiar or predictable about that, given what many have said about about the formulas Marvel Studios to have?

Seems more like just sour grapes against Fox or any studio going up against Marvel Studios.

I'd rather The Apes franchise thrives than, what, Fox to suffer so the MCU gets the F4? This is just silly.

I mean...Homecoming is formulaic too. That's the nature of these movies isn't it?

But that's neither here nor there; what does the box office have to do with your enjoyment of it? Seems like Homecoming is popular and you seem to have really enjoyed it (great!) why do you care how much money POTA or Homecoming makes? Do you have a connection with Homecong that's getting you paid?

Also there were plenty of people in my theater when I saw it (Homecoming) last night. Seems like it'll be a nice haul.

Sony’s Spider-Man: Homecoming has swung to $25.3M in its first outings at the international box office. That number is good through Thursday. By Friday, the reboot will have looped into 60% of overseas territories with the exception of such majors as France, Germany, Spain, Japan and China. Industry sources ahead of the weekend were pegging the overseas launch at anywhere from $90M-$110M. The latter now seems more plausible.

To wit: Korea is off the charts. The sophisticated market which has been a top home for Peter Parker in the past, is, through Friday, at $10.4M — and on its way to match MCU movies at a $20M weekend. The opening day there set the record for a standard Wednesday.

Latin America is also inside Spidey’s web with $6.3M through Thursday. Brazil had the biggest July opening day of all time at $2M. Mexico’s $2.4M Thursday was 25% above ASM2 despite that film opening on a holiday.

Russia’s $2.25M Thursday was double the opening day of Amazing Spider-Man 2, and almost triple the first day of Wonder Woman.

Tom Holland’s Spidey will face competition from those pesky Minions of Despicable Me 3 in some markets as the weekend rolls out. For now, Peter Parker’s UK opening day of $2M was 4% behind ASM2 and equal to Wonder Woman.

In Russia, the boy who was bitten earned $2.2M on Thursday, 114% ahead of ASM2 and 167% ahead of Wonder Woman.

the irony of an MCU fan calling a movie formulaic and predictable :funny:

Why is this even a discussion? I don't like the Apes trilogy, I don't get it. I want SMH to do well. If you like Apes, good for you.

I haven't said if I like Apes or not. That's irrelevant.

You want Spider-Man to do well, great but you also said you wanted POTA to fail. I don't understand why and you keep repeating that if I like POTA that's cool. Thanks for your permission but that's not what the question was for me, since you don't seem keen to answering it I'll let it alone.

The general problem with your sentiment is that you're craving for POTA to fail and this to succeed. Why must one succeed and the other fail? You can't just be happy for SM:H's success? I don't even understand why you brought POTA into this conversation considering this is a thread about SM:H's box office.

the irony of an MCU fan calling a movie formulaic and predictable :funny:

Right? I mean, Doctor Strange wasn't THAT long ago and if anyone searches, critics praise the visuals, but one word that often came up when describing the plot is, in fact, 'formulaic.'

But...back to why Spider-Man must succeed and why Planet of the Apes must apparently fail discussion...

LMAO! I said one thing and everyone went nuts. I brought it up because SMH has to compete with it next week. I hope SMH comes out on top. They will eat into each others box office, and I don't care about the Apes franchise, if you do great. End of discussion.

TS made a silly remark, probably out of excitement over Homecoming. This doesn't need to go on for pages. We should get back to discussing the box office for this film.

And yet you still haven't answered why.

I get why you want Spider-Man to do well but it has done well! Which is great! A huge opening is coming!

You specifically said though you wanted POTA to fail, I was asking why that is but it doesn't look like I'll get an actual answer out of you just constant permission for me to like POTA, which is...nice(?).

Both the movies could do really well and I hope they do.

I don't see how they would even be connected. Is the theory that if Apes fails to produce a profit that they have to sell F4 to make some money? I don't see it mattering.

I want F4 back I do but I am patient.

Nobody really knows why he even brought it up, and he refuses to answer.
