I think with Nolan writing and producing MOS, it was thought and assumed by WB that Bale would return for Justice League, and when Nolan was adamant on not continuing, they offered Bale money to return anyway. I think that was definitely the thought process and goal. If not Bale, then Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

Seriously, 4 years ago, we were pretty damn close:

Brandon Routh - Superman
Christian Bale - Batman
Ryan Reynolds - Green Lantern

They needed to cast two more characters and it was all set. Then it all fell apart.

I'm kind of thankful. That cast would have assured a very "safe" JL movie I feel. It may have taken longer but I think the eventual output will be better with the cast members currently involved. Bale would probably have been accused of phoning it in, assuming his heart wasn't in it, and Routh didn't really do much in the Superman role. Even on TV I find his acting to be a little lacking. 4 years ago they probably would have cast Armie Hammer as Aquaman

I think Routh and Bale would have worked v well together, but Cavill and Affleck are so well suited together. They are going to be dynamite together.

Actually I wouldn't mind this, with Zeus as WW's dad and Poseiden as AM's, it ties together pretty well…much better than the Amazons being Kryptonian descendants.

But Aquaman's dad is Tom Curry.

Eh at this point I've given up hope of them following Aquamans origin from the comics. The casting of Momoa kinda blew it for me personally.
I expect some major changes and this would be one I actually wouldn't mind.

But for him to be Arthur Curry, his dad would be Tom Curry. Why would they change that?

Maybe his mother is Teresa Curry. If he was raised on the surface he would still be named Arthur Curry.

Maybe it's to tie these ancient races together.
They don't seem to mind changing his look (though to be honest it's hard to say what his look will be this early) so I don't see why changing his name and parentage would be a big deal. Apparently no one cares about Aquaman other than making him a bad ass so he isn't the butt of jokes.

But to assume Aquaman's main origin story goes out the window simply because of the actor they chose is a bit much.

Yeah it is…sorry I may be being a little overly dramatic today.:woot:

I just don't have much hope in the portrayal of Aquaman in this DCU.
Who knows maybe they will knock it out the park and I'll be happy.
I'll try to remain optimistic but...

And it's all we can do for now man.

tbh the aquaman origin doesn't sound bad.
maybe Aquaman isn't Poseidon's son. But maybe he could be Poseidon's descendant, thus making him the heir to the throne. WW and aq are still related then.

I'm sort of surprised by how much freedom they have with Aquaman. I mean people bi*** about Cavill's hairline and his Superman being a killer and brooding and all that, but Aquaman becomes a Polynesian guy and a cousin to Wonder Woman (presumably) and barely anyone complains.

Is Aquaman really so unpopular?

Seriously, I haven't found any devoted fan of Aquaman here yet, like Rorchach is fan of Green Lantern (Hal Jordan of course :woot:), John-An and plenty of others are Superman's fans, plenty of people are Batman's, myself and Hazz above included, and I also encountered couple of Flash's fans, but never Aquaman's.

Aquaman's origin has been changed quite a few times. I hope he remains similar to the comic, but if he's a descendant of Poseidon's that really ties his mythology together with Wonder Woman. It'd keep things streamlined.

But Aquaman's dad is Tom Curry.

In one version of the origin, Tom Curry or Arthur is Aquaman's adopted father, and his birth mom's the queen of Atlantis and his father is a wizard.

They could tweak it and make Poseidon his father. I don't think they will though.

Well IMO, part of the reason Mamoa playing Aquaman is acceptable is because of his physical presence. He pretty much offsets the "Aquaman is lame" stuff by his appearance alone. Polynesians created surfing, so they have some connection to water-like activities.

Also, it adds some diversity to the line up.

Aquaman fans exist. :funny: I enjoy the new 52 read. He deserves to have his story told as it is in the comics. I too don't want him to be just badass just for the sake of fixing the "Aquaman is lame" comments. That said, I like the Momoa cast because he looks serious and yes 'badass' so now all they have to do is tell Aquaman's story and that's it.

I agree actually. It does create a better structured story and makes it less of a stretch to have so many superpowered characters all the sudden.

I do doubt it is true, but wouldn't mind it.

Aquaman and Wonder Woman would be related to an ancient god-like race and Cyborg and Flash would be results of scientific accidents (well, Cyborg would technically be the actual accident and scientific part would be a consequence of it).

The most tough character to be done right (and not because of the bad movie with Ryan Reynolds) would be Green Lantern, as I said before.

I had an idea about it though, and I wonder what's your opinion on it, of making his story like a good old "alien abduction" one.
Instead of ring coming to Earth, he'd be taken from Earth to be trained. He would be mentioned to some of the Justice League characters (or some other character) in "JL part one" movie as a pilot that mysteriously disappeared few years ago, along with mentioning of the strange lights in vicinity of the military base. And finally Hal would make an appearance in the third act of "JL part one" movie informing the League about a certain alien threat (Darkseid?) and joining it.

He would basically be the character who could bring many information about greater DCCU and serve as the door that opens to plenty of other alien civilizations beside Kryptonians. He'd finally return to Earth after being absent several years. Him coming back to Earth would be something that "Green Lantern" solo movie could deal with in the future.

Yeah probably. He does evoke the impression of bearded Aquaman from the 90's. And I really welcome the diversity and I guess plenty of people do too. Still this change is not something they could do with Flash for example, and not be faced with very vocal complains.

Well, yeah, though I wouldn't mind the change, I feel that the character as it is in the comics, should be given a chance in live action. I mean the origin story, his name and all that... from what I gathered he already is badass in the New 52 comics.

Yes. :D

I really should pick that read. I've been meaning to.
