Captain Marvel The Captain Marvel box office prediction thread

So...of the 9 most Liked trailers of ALL TIME, 5 of the movies aren't even out yet, and the other 4 were released in the past 9 months or so.

That may just mean that more and more people are using the Youtube Like button. This movie may be a billion dollar success, but I'm not sure that this is a believable predictor of that. It's an interesting statistic though.
Correct. I think there needs to be more time and data before we can claim one way or another whether this predicates success.

You're right but I didn't bring up the likes to prove that the movie will make a billion, I brought them up to prove that the trailer hasn't been received (not by the GA, at least) as badly as some of us think.

I would be carefull getting too bullish on numbers - could be setting the movie up for a 'disappointment' even if it performs great. I think Dr Strange performance is what we should aim for.

So more then MoS...I'm good with that.

Seriously though, even if that early projection avg of 160 is overshot by 35 million, that's still 35 million more then Strange made OW. Unless the movie is bad I'll be shocked if it doesn't do more by a considerable margin. I was skeptical, but the recent tracking has opened my eyes to the potential.

I think Venom being on that list is quite telling honestly as far as it being another movie that people said had meh trailers and mixed reception yet it still did huge numbers at the BO.

Tickets for this sold pretty well for the opening night showing at my theater. A good chunk of the "good seats" sold within the first 10-12 hours. Compared to Black Panther and Ant-Man and the Wasp, more tickets have been sold so far

I voted for 700m but after Aquabro and Venom, all bets are off imo. This could cross a billion comfortably and I wouldn't raise an eyebrow as I would have before.

International Women’s Day Saw Box Office Surge in China

On March 8, the International Women’s Day, China’s single-day box office earnings reached 193 million yuan ($30.5 million), a 70 percent jump compared to the day before. Operation Red Sea continued to top the chart with 68 million yuan. Cumulatively, the film has raked in 3.19 billion yuan ($504 million), only 40 million yuan ($6.3 million) less than the total box office of Detective Chinatown 2. Behind Operation Red Sea and Detective Chinatown 2 was Indian film Bajrangi Bhaijaan, which made 25.5 million yuan ($4 million) on Women’s Day. Read more on Mtime

Interesting.

I have no doubt this movie is going to be uber successful, but I gotta say at my local Edwards Theater there are plenty of seats available. I just canceled my 7pm tickets, placed weeks ago, for the 6pm/fan event showing instead and that also still had a lot of great seats available.

Nice poster and I hope we can get big numbers there after Venom and Aquaman.

The hype train for this movie does seem to be building momentum. 150 million+ opening weekend wouldn't surprise me.

So this is interesting. This guy is one of the few people who predicted Aquaman would make a billion, and apparently he's usually very reliable with his predictions.

Good to hear! I think those numbers are possible if the film is really good and features enough of the sci-fi side.

I hope it makes it, if nothing else to piss off the haters.

I think CM can hit $175M-$190M opening weekend now, with numbers like this just a month out. I wouldn't be surprised if the buzz and momentum get it to $200M.

Crazy. This bodes well for further MCU/DC titles like WW84 too, people crave more women-led superhero films.

Is that in order of hype?

Surprised that Shazam isn’t there given that kind of silly fun type movie is up Chinese audience ally.

There is a lot of hype for this movie. The trailer on Weibo (China's Twitter) has more views than Black Panther, Ant-Man 2, Aquaman & Venom.

Weibo is (one of) the most popular social media site in China.

Super bowl spot did this movie good I think. Seems more fun filled and action packed tailor made for the GA. MS are marketing geniuses I tell ya.
