Captain Marvel The Captain Marvel box office prediction thread

Early numbers around the world are coming in and are extremely positive. at this rate, looks like it will beat 1 bil with ease. In fact, might challenge aquaman and even black panther's totals
I think Aquaman is possible but BP remains to be seen.

yup, still not that likely but chances increasing. it will def lose to black panther in the usa by quite a lot. 200+ mil so basically its whether it can recover that overseas.

currently outperforming panther in france, australia, indonesia, taiwan, china, etc though so theres a chance

I guessed in the $800m range in the poll, but these early tracking numbers are looking good. i'm going to revise this now and say $900m - $1bn.
$400 domestic
$600 overseas

Way too early to predict a billion. I have a feeling this is going to be front loaded big time. You need to see how the second weekend drops.

Yeah, calling a billion now seems a little out there. Is it worth a watch? Sure...opening weekend numbers are solid. Is it worth a second watch and bringing friends to see it with you? There's the question...

150 OW and 100 China OW make 800 million close to being a lock.

Nice. Both US and China are looking strong.

Nice. Another big estimate. Even in the ballpark would be great.

So, is the 350 million OW estimate made earlier this week doable?

800M would be fantastic for this movie. It's legs will be a big factor, hopefully they hold up!

If the $350m global OW held up then it wouldn't even need huge legs to get to $800m.

With the film not having overly glowing critic reviews to entice people in, it'll likely need good audience WOM for it to have good legs.

Thing about Civil War is that it was probably the least “crowd-pleasing” Marvel film until IW. Cap and IM having a falling out and the Avengers breaking up is a bit of a downer notion for people, wasn’t the uplifting ending audiences come to expect from these movies, and that’s the kind of thing that will affect legs, no matter how great the movie was.

So could Endgame then suffer in the same way if a major character dies?

Aquaman says hi.

And Venom.

Many major characters died in Infinity War and it made $678 million domestic/$2 billion worldwide. After IW came out, there were predictions that the snap would cause people to forego repeat viewings but that obviously didn't happen. Now that the audience has seen half of all life in the universe die, taking many heroes along with it, it's doubtful that any deaths in Endgame will drive them away. After all, we already watched Spider-Man's heartbreaking death and went back for more viewings.

I think Engame being the culmination of this story arc will be enough to keep people wanting to see it multiple times. Much like LOTR.
