Captain Marvel The Captain Marvel box office prediction thread

I don't think it's that big of a deal. That's like 3 weeks in between, which is more than enough time for it to not be a major factor.
This.

People don't care about the FOX-Men movies (the main series) anymore.

I don't even know anymore. $300 M Dom/ $500 M Foreign sounds safe. The last 4 MCU movies have done above $500 M foreign, and the last 5 have done over $300 M domestic.

Antman and the Wasp would like a word with you lol.

Anyway, I voted for the 600M plus option. It can't rely on the cultural impact as WW was already the first, and it looks like it's taking place in the past (ie stand alone), with maybe an end credit connecting it to Infinity War. As we've seen with AM&W, being stand alone will effect it's box office run.

The release date is what worries me the most. Not even two months before Avengers 4... I can easily imagine people looking at the trailers for both movies and deciding to just skip CM and save their money for the grand finale.

That's also another thing I haven't taken into account. Though the reverse can also happen if Carol is heavily featured in the A4 trailers, making Captain Marvel seem like a must see film...

I don't know, maybe. Right now I think most people are just excited to find out what happens after the events of IW, and I'm kind of worried that once they realize CM is a prequel they'll just dismiss it as filler.

A valid concern. That's exactly what happened with Antman and the Wasp.

The Ant-Man franchise IS filler, and small-time filler at that, which never has any real bearing on the bigger picture of the MCU. Whereas, Captain Marvel will obviously be a huge part. Not even remotely comparable, imo. She's a far more epic characer, not to mention she'll be in the trailers/promo for Avengers 4, so people will feel the need to see her film to feel "caught up," so to speak. This film will EASILY make more than any Ant-Man film, imo.

Captain Marvel is also piggy backing off the Avengers IW post credits scene. A&W was going out of its way to say "Hey, this is a separate thing from those events!" I think that is a major distinction, so Captain Marvel has a higher ceiling.

Domestic: $250 million
Overseas: $450 million
Total: $700 million

Worldwide 860-900 and something million potentially a billion

I seriously doubt the movie will make a billion. "First MCU movie starring a woman" is just not the same as "first superhero movie with a majority black cast". Black Panther was an once in a lifetime event.

My pre-trailer prediction is 600-650 million.

Am not saying it will make black panther money, but I think if the movie has great reviews, amazing action, especially since she's the most powerful mcu superhero so far, and is marketed well and has an avengers 4 end credit tie in, that makes people more excited to see her in avengers 4. Then yh, I can see her first movie beating wonder woman and making over 900 million potentially hitting a billion. She also has the brands name Marvel, so I can see some people curious about this character, having the brands name all to herself. It also released on international women's day so that could probably help with the box office, and if the trailer starts or ties into the IW's end credit scene, then I think the average audience will remember oh, this is who nick fury was calling and I think the majority of the movie is in space so that could be pretty cool.

I could see it beating WW overseas but domestic would be very hard.

It's going to have aliens at war with each other, space battles, superheros etc... what more do you want? Also ties into avengers 4 and will not have enough time to come out on home cinema or even a decent stream so a lot people who are interested in avengers 4 will probably go see this aswell.
Then again it is a new character who some might not be interested in so i've gone for $800m.

North America: $250 - 275 M
International: $400 - 425 M

Worldwide: $650 - 700 M

I see the same. WW was really strong domestically but didn't have the pull overseas to do the normal percentages of other big CBMs.

It will do great.

I see it probably doing around $700M, but $800M or so is possible too!

LOL, I still have yet to see either Ant-Man nor the sequel that just came out, simply because I am just not invested enough in the MCU to even care about wasting my time and money on it. I didn't even bother to go see Spider-Man Homecoming either, but I did finally buy it when it came on BluRay. I love Holland's portrayal, but the movie itself was kind of boring whenever Tony Stark wasn't in it.....

I don't care about Captain Marvel either, nor do I even know who the person is playing her. Only thing that might interest me is Samuel L Jackson reprising his Nick Fury role. I was thinking maybe the 90's setting might be another interesting thing, but right now, people are really into the 80's, not the 90's.

Right now, I just have no idea what this film will bring. I'm not seeing the hype for this like there was for Black Panther or Spider-Man. We don't even have a trailer out yet. Right now, I'm thinking it will get numbers similar to either Ant-Man or Solo.......

This posts reeks of low effort jabs and backhand shade that it's not even subtle. If you honestly think Cap Marvel will do solo numbers (LMAO!!!!) then you are detached from reality in a big way....

I could be wrong but my personal theory is that these two things are connected.

1st Black Panther trailer came in early July for film released in mid Feb. Captain Marvel comes out in March. So if it comes in Sept, it only would have been 1 month later relative to the release windows of those films respectively. If it drops in Sept, that would still be 6 months before release. Plenty of time.

I'm expecting over $300m dom and over $500m overseas. Just a question of how much more.

Maybe people should be hyped for things they don't even know about yet, like an instinctive feeling in the pit of their stomach. :woot:
