Captain Marvel The Captain Marvel box office prediction thread

Black Widow is getting a solo movie next year. Scarlet Witch is getting a show. Also the fact that there already are some female heroes in the MCU doesn't mean Marvel shouldn't bother introducing new ones. What kind of reasoning is that

Bad faith arguments. Bad faith arguments everywhere. Their real problem is that they don't find Brie Larson's Captain Marvel appealing enough (if you get what I mean), so according to them she has no right to exist.

Which is fine, I guess, since I feel the same way about them. :o
I dunno, guess they felt those two should've had the honor of being first female led hero because they had already been established and they are more popular in the comics? Maybe you know, how popular in the comic books is CM over the other two?

I understand the sentiment because as a DC fan, I wanted a Teen Titans film over Suicide Squad as I felt the property is far better and much more deserving to be in the DCEU.

Are you saying they don't think Larson is attractive enough? Lol

Scarlet Witch used to be much more popular than Ms. Marvel (for many years she was THE female Avenger), but nowadays she's kind of irrelevant. Black Widow has gained many fans in the last few years thanks to the movies, but I still wouldn't say she's more popular than CM.

The issue here is not that Captain Marvel doesn't have fans, is that she also has many vocal detractors, much more than either BW or SW.

And yes, many of the people trashing the movie have made it very clear that they don't think Brie Larson is attractive enough for the role.

Yeah that's insane. She's not ugly in the slightest. At least not to me.

I don't understand the hate either. I'm critical of the film and the character Carol Danvers isn't a homerun, but I'm glad the movie is winning in the box office. Big box offices for CBMs are a win for all comic fans everywhere. The more CBMs make the more risks studios will be willing to take.

Remember when everyone hated on Gal Gadot? All the outrage and body shaming ...
People criticized her body, especially her boobs. Sad, but true.

I find Brie more attractive than Scarlett and Elizabeth but what do I know?
I'm looking forward to the Black Widow movie - I'm just hoping it's really not a prequel. Same with the Scarlet Witch/Vision show.
Fans are obviously liking Carol Danvers and she's only going to get better after each appearance. Not too many people were high on Thor after his two solo films and now he was just voted most popular Avenger. Cap too. It wasn't until Winter Soldier and Ultron where he became a fan favourite

Donald Duck himself brought a basket full of free tickets, action figures and T-shirts to my front door, but told me not to tell anyone because he's not done undermining all men in western society yet.

To be fair, it might not have been Donald Duck so much as a sailor who had nothing on from the waist down.

Did you invite him in?

I actually find Brie Larson to be insanely beautiful. All those people who criticize Brie for her looks should take a look in the mirror first. Bet many of them are way out of her league.

I really don't understand what drives the hate for this film.
I get the The anti- female stuff.
but, I think that there is more to it than that.
It seems like now people just want to be proven right about it being a bad film.

I'd say there are two sides to your question, with two different answers.

1. "Why does this film draw as much irrational hate as it does?" My answer would be, because its Marvel/Disney. Which is to say, you get people with an irrational hatred routed in several independent factors, kind of coalescing, and forming a critical mass.

2. "What else?" Well, don't forget that a film can also draw antipathy for entirely *valid* reasons. Just because some people hate a movie because it stars a woman, doesn't mean others can't hate a movie because of problems with the writing, say.

And so, you get a general perception of undifferentiated antipathy, when really there are a whole bunch of things driving it. Which gets nasty when people start assuming that *everyone* who dislikes a movie ( or likes it! ) must be doing so for bad reasons.

BOT Japanese update:

$6.5 million OW

Captain Marvel is on course to debut at the #1 spot this weekend, dethroning Doraemon which seemed poised to reign atop the weekend box office until April. And not only will Ms. Marvel likely take the #1 spot, her film is well on track to claim the biggest opening weekend for a Marvel/DC film outside of the Avengers/Spider-Man franchises.

Nah, point 1 really makes no sense considering there has never been a campaign against a film like this before in the MCU. I'd say it's the SW critics all over again with their Mary Sue complaints and general disagreement with the political message. Also I've seen a lot of the usual DC fans in the messages on YT and twitter feeling obviously salty that this could outdo WW nonsense masking it (rather obviously) as other things. Black Panther got some too, but it was more from closet racists and, again, the usual right-wing channels. Nothing like this though. Every other MCU film is highly rated in general and never really had this type of PR outside of production issues or the usual petty fan rivalries.

You want to make films where the star champions the political angle and politics in general on the press tour and this is what you get. She's got her right obviously, but she nor Marvel should be surprised. If they are then they really haven't been paying attention. We may think it's BS, but people are building careers on it.

This movie will probably cross the $700M mark at the international box office. I can't believe it

It's been an amazing success story OS. The only 'disappointment' is China. It did well, but not what I thought it would do based on early tracking. Happily it's exceeded my expectations in other markets.
