Captain Marvel The Captain Marvel box office prediction thread

Then why is The Last Jedi considered a box office failure even though it made a lot of money at the box office?

Because you are pulling BS nonsense untethered from reality from your anal canal.

You are mocking others' investment in the film while claiming you have none yet you are obviously invested in undermining people who want to see the film rather consistently because ultimately you are in throws of obsession with reactionary political poses which are based in large part on ignorant conspiracy theories.

I have my own sometimes quite pointed criticisms of the MCU films but what you are putting out is something only credulous fools would believe.

Yep. Infinity War is the highest-grossing movie of all time in Brazil (#2 Age of Ultron, #3 Civil War :funny:).
Oh I didn’t realise the MCU had a 1-2-3 in Brazil! After Endgame it’s likely going to be a 1-2-3-4! Complete domination.

I'm expecting 120 million myself, but then it will close around $600-$700 WW. Like I said, not a flop, but not this record breaking juggernaut everyone is expecting either.

If Captain Marvel makes $600-700m, I'll delete my account. If it makes any more, delete yours.

Deal?

I Got out of the box office prediction game a long time ago.
And with something like this, there is simply no way to know.
But, if had to guess, I would say CM will land on the upside of projections.

However, even if it does, the haters will say it bombed.
Heck if CM made $200 million, the haters will say ,"It would have made more if it didn't SUCK!"

The bean counters at BOT through equations and formulas that I can't even begin to understand are saying its gonna have a 18-21m Thursday preview number.

So basically it's still on track for a 150 m + opening

160 m is doable with good WOM.

Here's comparisons for the past 3 years of MCU releases of previews and 3-day OW totals:
CA: CW: $25M on Thursday and $179M for OW
Doctor Strange: $9.4M on Thursday and $85M for OW
GOTG Vol 2: $17M on Thursday and $140M for OW
SM: HC: $15.4M on Thursday and $117M for OW
Thor: Ragnarok: $14.5M on Thursday and $122M for OW
Black Panther: $25.2M on Thursday and $202M for OW
Infinity War: $39M on Thursday and $258M for OW
Ant-Man & the Wasp: $11M on Thursday and $75M for OW

I never understood why Star-Wars and the MCU are always being compared from a boxoffice perspective. I think that is the single biggest mistake that people who hate captain marvel are making right now. They think that since they are responsible for the box-office failure of Ghostbusters or since they have convinced themselves that they hurt The Last Jedi in some way lol

They think they can use the same tactics on MCU films but they fail to realize why it did not to work on black panther last year and why it will also not work on Captain Marvel

Star-Wars and Ghostbusters are nostalgia driven franchises. A lot of the people who going to so those movies grew up with star wars for well over 30 years. They have huge hardcore fanbases that stretch across many generations and this is why they have so much influence over those franchises.

The MCU on the other hand has never been driven by nostalgia like that. When me and my sister went to go see the first iron man or guardians of the Galaxy we knew nothing about the characters nor did we grow up reading their comics or knowing really anything about them. We were just casual moviegoers and I am willing to bet a vast major of the people who are going to go see Captain Marvel are the same

The only thing my sister knows about Captain Marvel is that she thought trailer looked cool and Sam Jackson is in it and if her reaction represents how regular people see Captain Marvel then the movie is going have a huge weekend at the box office.

Sure the MCU may have its hardcore fans but unlike star-wars the vast majorly of the people who go to see their movies are not long time fans at all

Based on these, I'm guessing we might be in for something around a $140-150mil opening weekend, which would be amazing, imo. Could be lower, but at this point I'd be very surprised if it hits any lower than $120mil.

I want this to hit 400m domestic and 600m overseas.

Yeah we don’t have a way to do that. The way to leave the forum is to get banned or...stop posting, lol.

Unless that changed in the move to Xenforo and nobody told us.

Isn't this tracking to have a 95+ million opening in China? How are people putting 600-700 world wide BO?

They are technically not wrong according to the poll (it says 600 million plus). Anyone who votes 100 million plus will be correct on the first day (since it opens in all markets sans Japan IIRC).

This is looking to open big in US and China, while we've seen evidence of good marketing in South Korea and the MCU is doing amazingly in Brazil and Mexico. Along with the UK's total you are going to have a very big base number before adding on the rest of the world.
