I still stand by my thought process she should be Talia because we still haven't gotten a good Talia Al Ghul in live action and I'd like an actress that looks the part and is talented as her for when they do that storyline again in some future.images (68).jpeg

That's true but eh. In 5 years time it'll be 12 years after TDKR so they could always put them on a sequel or an standalone movie based on them alone. If they're going to continue this "Lets make movies about villains " thing, Ra's Al Ghul and his story would be a fascinating one to tackle.

Wouldn’t hate Nina Dobrev, she’s a really good actress.

I wouldn't be opposed to Naomi Scott, but she's only been in small TV stuff and these mainstream blockbusters (although she seems to have given solid performances in those from what I've heard, never seen anything). Pfeiffer and Hathaway on the other hand had given nuanced performances in acclaimed movies before taking on the role and were even Oscar-nominated. I'm not sure Scott is on that level.

I think it's time for Keira Knightley to step back into a major franchise. Not only could she be a great femme fatale in Reeves' upcoming movie, I believe Knightley could carry a spin-off film and reignite excitement for a Catwoman franchise at WB and amongst the general audiences.

She's always been a great pick for the role, and is just as good now as ever.

Yeah, as great as it'd be to see a Latina actress in the role, it's not vital. Selina's heritage has been changed around how many times in the comics, after all? Ultimately I want them to get the right person for the job.

Any of those three would be fantastic choices and Kirby in particular would be a force to be reckoned with onscreen alongside Pattinson's Bruce Wayne (assuming that works out). From what I gather, her work in stage theater has been acclaimed and we've all talked about her in MI: Fallout and The Crown too.

Yeah, Selina has one of the most convoluted backstories in all of comicdom. Like most Golden-Age characters, there initially wasn't any real focus on her roots outside of Gotham, aside from being white and American, that is. If memory serves me correctly, her look was based on screen legend Hedy Lammar and popular femme fatales of the day. It wasn't until the late 90s or early 2000s that the writers opted to flesh out her origins a bit. During this time, we got two different origin stories for the character. One describes her as the the daughter of Maria, a Cuban mother and Brian Kyle, an Irish father (presumably both Americans, as the 'Cuban' and 'Irish' designations appear to refer to their respective ancestries/ethnic backgrounds rather than POB); another hints that she's the daughter of mob boss Carmine Falcone and his wife, both Italian-Americans. Interestingly enough, the Cuban/Irish origin was mentioned just the once, whereas Selina's connection to Falcone was explored a bit further in Jeph Loeb's Catwoman: When In Rome one-shot. Still following? lol Here's where it gets even more confusing. During the New 52, it was revealed that her father was an entirely different Italian-American crime boss, a gent by the name of Rex "The Lion" Calabrese. Calabrese used to be the "top dog" in organized crime until he was eventually pushed out and supplanted by Falcone. For this reason, he was forced to abandon Selina (whose birth name is Selina Calabrese) and go on the run. That's how she ended up bouncing around from foster home to foster home, eventually getting taken in/adopted by the aforementioned Irish/Cuban couple.

Having said that, given Selina's humble beginnings (which makes her a hell of a lot more relatable than a blue blood like Bruce Wayne), it stands to reason that she can be played by a woman of any race or ethnicity, the source material notwithstanding. We all have our preferences, though. And there's certainly nothing wrong with wanting the character to look the way you've always imagined her to be in live-action, whether that's white, black, brown, etc. I hesitate to use the term Hispanic, as, technically speaking, that isn't even an actual race. For political reasons and because "latinos" share a common language and culture, people tend to lump them all together. The reality, however, is that some are partially or wholly white (de Armas herself, although born in Cuba, has roots in Spain); some are brown like the indigenous or "Indian" actress who plays the lead in Roma; some are black as well. Hell, you even have Japanese Peruvians! lol

Whatever the case, I just think Kirby, Rossum and the aforementioned de Armas tick all the right boxes. All three are attractive up-and-comers with that oh-so-important hint of danger to them. What's more, they can act. WB would be foolish not to at least consider them. Granted, my dream choice would be someone who looks more like Lauren Hall (a relatively unknown blue-eyed, brunette porn actress from the 90s) or Ava Gardner, but that's not gonna happen! So, this is the next best thing unless, of course, Reeves has someone better in mind. lol

That was longer than I intended for it to be... :O

She's very attractive, but I need to see more from her repertoire.

On the contrary, I appreciate the thorough breakdown on the ongoing conundrum that is Selina's ethnicity and backstory! It makes me feel a lot less guilty for starting to root more and more for Vanessa Kirby for the job. :funny: Granted both Ana de Armas and Emma Rossum would also be great picks for Selina too.

Admittedly though, the more I look into Kirby's career, the more I think she's probably the best 'match' for Pattinson. She hasn't been in nearly as many films as he has, but it turns out she's developed quite a reputation as one of the finest theater actors of the modern era outside of her turns in The Crown and Mission: Impossible - Fallout.

Granted as I've stated in the past, I think the biggest deciding factor here should be chemistry. Whoever pairs off best with Pattinson likely winds up with the job.

If she gets it I wouldn't protest.

She looks the part. My only issue is that she's not really shown the kind of range to stand toe-to-toe with Pattinson. If she gets it, I have enough faith in Reeves' direction that it'll end up great

I really need to start watching more of his stuff lol.

Well let's not pretend Pattinson is DDL over here. I still need convincing.

It's weird because the only actress I can think of in the age range that's being incredibly critically acclaimed is Saoirse Ronan but she'd be incredibly wrong for the part.

Lets not forget folks DDL (when he'd made TWBB), he'd been in the acting game far longer than RP has been at the point The Lighthouse has been made, RP in a short space of time has manoeuvred himself away from a 'trapped' existence in teen drama naff to a well thought of and respected young actor in a relatively short time, he's in a fine position to make the most of this opportunity.

I hope their dynamic is like that in the Telltale Batman game, really enjoyed their interactions there.
