The Clinton Thread II

Looks like she is announcing Kaine later today. He's like Pence. Most people who don't follow this stuff everyday don't really know him. I'm sure Trump will attack her on this choice as he's in favor of protecting the banks.

The only thing Kaine and Pence have in common is they are not all that well known Nationally....

But to people up North, Pence is very well known and not exactly liked by either side...ie: he will bring in no new votes, only keep the extreme right votes.

Kaine is very well known in the South, and is not popular, of course, among Conservatives, but is liked enough by Liberals to shore up that vote, and will bring in quite a few Independent voters....

Pence is pretty well-known in Indiana's neighboring states, and often not positively.

Yes, northern states....:cwink: Down south it is mostly extreme right Conservatives that know him better as far as his time in Congress, they don't know much about the flip flopping of his Governorship, therefore to them he is a Conservative right down their alley....but to Conservatives up North that do know his Governor record are not happy with him at all....and of course Liberals think he is Lucifer's brother...;)

It's unreal how these two parties are. One is as corrupt as it gets, the other completely incompetent. I'm glad this is coming to pass. Hopefully people will stand up and stop this nonsense.

what do you want to bet Trump tweets about Kaine something along the lines of "boring Tim Kaine, safe, mediocre choice. sad"

He can't help himself.

Well, even Donald Trump is bound to get it right every now and then. Kaine is not a good choice. Might make a good VP, might not. But he isn't a good candidate.

I agree. I think Hillary should tap Elizabeth Warren as her VP.

Kaine has been chosen.....she just tweeted it out.

My problem with Kaine is this:

It is such an insanely safe choice. Kaine brings NOTHING to the ticket. His only value to the ticket is that he does not hurt the ticket. As Nate Silver pointed out this afternoon, Kaine gives Clinton .07 % greater chance in Virginia. That is his value to here. There is no utility in this pick. So why make it?

Simply put: arrogance. Just as in 2008, Clinton is underestimating her opponent and taking her lead for granted. She thinks that all she needs to do is pick someone who doesn't hurt her and Trump will take care of the rest. To use a football analogy, it is 3 and 8 in the fourth quarter, Clinton leads by three with 2.5 minutes left on the clock, and Clinton is running the ball. She isn't playing to win, she is playing to not lose. Just like in 2008.

Meanwhile, Trump is surging in Ohio, North Carolina, and Florida: three of the four states Nate Silver has identified as those that can tip the election. And what is Clinton's response? To ignore it and just keep on playing it safe.

This is starting to feel a lot like the 2008 primary redux.

It shows she's confident (or over-confident) that she'll win and doesn't need to stir things up or make a big play for undecideds. He's more of a governing choice that she feels comfortable with on a personal level.

Kaine is qualified and boring and won't overshadow the candidate at the top of the ticket.

He doesn't even make sense as a governing choice. He is a man with an approval rating in the mid-40s (which is consistent with his approval rating as governor). He brings nothing to the table that she did not already have. Their committee assignments and expertise areas are virtually identical. Every trait Kaine brings to the ticket, there are at least 5-10 people, on the national stage, who do it better. He isn't a bad choice, but he is so terribly mediocre. He is the medi-est of the mediocre. Its not even just dull. Its flat out uninspiring.

Considering her favorability ratings Hillary needed someone exciting and positive to overshadow her :funny: She hardly generate any excitement at all really and when she tries to sound "inspiring" it comes off as forced and hollow. She's just not a good orator that can make that connection with people.

And sadly, neither is Kaine. This ticket is more boring than Dole/Kemp. I have a very bad feeling about this. Trump is running a campaign aimed at people's hearts (granted, instill fear in their hearts, but targeting hearts none the less). Clinton is trying to run a campaign targeting their minds. Once again: how did that work out for her in 2008, a time when she was perceived far more favorably than she is now and on paper was a far better choice than Barrack Obama? I am genuinely frightened that this pick might give Trump the election.

Do you know what this pick really is? Its political. Kaine is up for re-election in 2018. His approval rating is in the mid-40s. Democrats sense he is vulnerable, so they are hoping to fill the spot with someone more popular to recapture the seat in two years while maintaining the incumbent advantage. It is the exact type of political, "me and mine first" mentality that Trump accuses Clinton of. And its really transparent to anyone who pays attention.

I am very disheartened by this pick.

I have hope. Hope in Tony Schwartz. I think we might see Donald Trump go off the rails again.

I'm not inspired by this VP choice either, and it does expose Hillary's weakness as a decision maker. How I wish Obama can run for his 3rd term as Prez; he'd beat Trump handily.

I don't think Obama wants to be president anymore. I wasn't convinced his heart was in it in 2012. I still remember that first debate against Romney. He looks and sounds like a hostage these days.

Sooner or later the DNC and/or Hillary are going to need to address the whole DNC Leaks thing. I already see Jill Stein and Gary Johnson using it to get new supporters. This whole thing makes Debbie Wasserman-Schultz look biased and incompetent.

I think like most incumbents Obama got soft and figured he could just show up and smoke Romney. It was like Rocky's first fight against Clubber Lang. Dude prepared like **** and got his ass kicked.

Wasserman-Schultz should step down in atonement. But there is really nothing to address. The party fought off a man who is not part of the party and kept him from hijacking the nomination. Good on them.

That said, as I pointed out in the other thread, Assange really needs to come off of his war on Clinton. He seems intent on getting Trump elected in the name of embarrassing the United States. That is a ****ing death wish on his part.

I think Hillary needs to own up to some of her mistakes and humanize herself a bit. It's a risk because she may get attacked on admitting that she's not perfect but I think that's what people are looking for with her....accountability. It's a strength when you can admit your shortcomings and acknowledge why many people don't trust you. It would go a long way to bridging that unfavorability gap if she could pull it off right.

Democratic VP candidates since 1992
1992-1996 Gore (boring)
2000 Lieberman (boring and awful)
2004 Edwards (exciting...later fumbled)
2008-2012 Biden (slightly better than boring)
2016 Kaine (boring)

I'm still annoyed by Lieberman all these years later retrospectively when I think of that election.
