The New Yorker “review” is such garbage. The guy clearly doesn’t have an open mind to these types of commercial movies that I don’t know why he even bothered reviewing it.

I just hate slow RT count days. Suppose it's coming to an end.
Anyway here's to it hitting 97 and 8.3!

Is this Antohny Lane? I remember last year his Infinity War review had little to do with the movie and was a tirade against comic book movies in general.

Yeap. Here’s a taste:

“One must, after all, respect the feelings of the saga’s devotees, who demand nothing from reviewers but sobs of nonspecific adulation. Anything else is treason. (In future years, I suspect, Marvel fandom will be regarded as a very peculiar phenomenon, and I wish that Michael Moore, say, could interrogate the faithful while the flame still burns.)

The one thing you do need to know about “Avengers: Endgame” is that it runs for a little over three hours, and that you can easily duck out during the middle hour, do some shopping, and slip back into your seat for the climax. You won’t have missed a thing”

The guy has a right to dislike it but sounds like he just has a bone to pick with comic book fans in general.

I just realized that I never voted in this poll. On a whim, I chose "Above 90%". Finger crossed that I'm right. :D:

Quite a few of the "Top Critics" have written anti-blockbuster reviews of MCU films and other CBMs. Some reviewers who prefer indies like to pretend that if studios stopped producing superhero films tomorrow, they would suddenly spend billions per year making Oscar bait movies. They're horrendously salty whenever an MCU film seems destined to put up huge numbers because that's proof that the genre isn't going to die out anytime soon.

Listen, whenever you think you've read a review so terrible, so indescribably ridiculous that you want to throw up. Just read Armond Whites review about the same movie and realize there is always a worst review out there.

He's right about the fandom though. Stepping outside,. There's a general disregard of any opinion that doesn't butter the MCU. The movies are hits. But are not without fault. Different strokes for different folks. People who dislike these films have opinions JUST as valid as those who love them. His annoyance is around the fact that die hard MCU fans can't seem to accept that.

I was one of those fans for a long time..

Yeah, but I bet if I told him to his face I didn't like, say, Pulp Fiction or The Godfather, he'd be up in my grill, too, just as angry!defensive.

How does disparaging fans of the genre have any place in a review of a movie?
