The CW developing "The Tomorrow People" remake

Yet another Spartacus vet is headed to The CW’s Wednesday lineup.

Simon Merrells, who played the evil Marcus Crassus in Starz’ Spartacus: War of the Damned, is joining The Tomorrow People in a recurring role, TVLine has learned exclusively.

According to exec producer Phil Klemmer, Merrells will play “somebody who has a lot of power over” Mark Pellegrino’s villain Jedikiah, adding, “We’re going to get to see him, hopefully, through the back half [of the season].”

The casting follows last week’s news that Merrells’ Spartacus co-star, Cynthia Addai Robinson, is joining Tomorrow People‘s Wednesday lead-in Arrow as DC Comics baddie Amanda Waller. And Arrow already counts Spartacus‘ Manu Bennett as a regular.

The Tomorrow People premieres Wednesday, Oct. 9 at 9/8c.

Super sad that we aren't getting a Caesar spin off. But nice to see the actors getting roles.

Just saw the trailer for this show and i'm pretty psyched.

Never saw the original series, but from the looks of things this is right up my alley and seems to have all the compenents I adore in a tv show :)

A Popular girl has found herself amongst The Tomorrow People.

Carly Pope has booked a recurring role on The CW’s new sci-fi series, TVLine has learned exclusively.

The actress will play Morgan Burke, one of the super-powered folk who has managed, thanks to an illicit relationship with a very powerful man, to conceal her paranormal abilities from the government organization which hunts down her kind. But when her connection is exposed, Morgan becomes a pawn in a shadow war between the species.

In addition to starring on The WB’s Popular, Pope’s TV credits include Outlaw, 24 and Dirt.

The Tomorrow People - Episode 1.01 - Pilot - Press Release
Posted by BloodyMary at Friday, September 20, 2013

“Pilot” — (9:00-10:00 p.m. ET) (Content Rating TBD) (HDTV)

THE UNKNOWN — When Stephen Jameson (Robbie Amell) begins hearing voices and waking up in strange places, he starts to question his sanity. In desperation, Stephen decides to listen to one of the voices in his head, and it leads him to his first encounter with the Tomorrow People — John (Luke Mitchell), Cara (Peyton List) and Russell (Aaron Yoo) — a genetically advanced race with the abilities of telekinesis, teleportation and telepathic communication. The Tomorrow People inform him that they are being hunted down by a paramilitary group of scientists known as Ultra, led by Dr. Jedikiah Price (Mark Pellegrino). Meanwhile, Stephen gets another surprise that leads him down his own path, which he hopes will help him uncover the truth about his father’s (guest star Jeffrey Pierce, “Alcatraz”) mysterious disappearance. Madeleine Mantock also stars. Danny Cannon directed the episode with story by Greg Berlanti, Julie Plec and Phil Klemmer and teleplay by Phil Klemmer (#101).

Have you notice they are still using some of the name from the original series like John the leader, Stephen the newcomer and Jedikiah the main villain even though in the original Jedikiah was an alien android.

The CW's upcoming remake of The Tomorrow People is getting a serious blast from the past.

Nicholas Young, who starred as John in the original U.K. series, has been cast in a recurring role, TVGuide.com has learned.

The Tomorrow People is the story of several young people from around the world — played by Peyton List, Robbie Amell, Luke Mitchell and Aaron Yoo, among them — who represent the next stage in human evolution, possessing special powers like teleportation and telepathy. They work together to defeat the forces of evil, otherwise known as a group called ULTRA, which hunts down people with these special abilities. In the remake, Mitchell portrays John, Young's character in the original series.

In the remake, Young will play Aldus Crick, the scientist who first discovered and studied the original generation of Tomorrow People. Stephen (Amell) believes that Aldus, a friend of his father's, may have information concerning his dad's disappearance. However, by helping Stephen find his father, Aldus puts himself back on ULTRA's radar and in danger with the very organization that forced him into hiding. Young will appear in the eighth and ninth episodes.

Chuck's Phil Klemmer executive-produces with The Vampire Diaries' Julie Plec and Arrow's Greg Berlanti.

Young, the only cast member to remain for the original Tomorrow People's entire six-year run, is also known for his work in the 1981 U.K. miniseries Kessler.

The Tomorrow People - Episode 1.02 - In Too Deep - Press Release

BREAKING OUT --- When Ultra tries to probe Stephen's (Robbie Amell) brain, he looks to his fellow Tomorrow People for help, but is rebuffed by an angry John (Luke Mitchell), leaving Cara (Peyton List) to go behind John's back to help Stephen. Meanwhile, Ultra tracks down the identity of a new break-out, who has been using his powers to commit crimes. Stephen tracks down the new break-out, but is shocked when an Ultra swat team is called in. At a loss for what to do, Stephen calls on John, Cara and Russell (Aaron Yoo) for help, leaving them with a risk of also getting caught. Upon learning of Ultra's evil motives, John tries to convince Stephen to spy on Ultra to help save other potential Tomorrow People, while still pursuing the answers he seeks about this father. Mark Pellegrino and Madeleine Mantock also star. Danny Cannon directed the episode written by Phil Klemmer and Jeff Rake (#102).

Thoughts on the premiere? I thought it was decent, things happened a little quickly which worries me. But it was good enough to bring me back next thing.

Only things I dislike are the usual "new kid in town is the messiah and all powerful one" and everyone having the same abilities.

I liked it enough to keep it on my DVR. I'm not familiar with the original UK version so I won't knit pick about the differences. It was pretty much the small screen version of the movie Jumper just with more abilities. The lead kid could pass as the younger brother or younger version of that guy from S.H.I.E.L.D.

Cliche can kill a show for me if there's too much of it. The pilot borderlined it.

My favorite part of the show is that Peyton List is always great to look at.:hrt:

The lead kid could pass as the younger brother or younger version of that guy from S.H.I.E.L.D.

he's stephen amell's (arrow) cousin.

anyway, the first episode was enjoyable.

So it's like x men...except without the moral complexities...or the imagination...I'll pass.

I liked it well enough. It has room to get better. I think it's worship of the lead will get grating. If he's the rookie and so powerful, let him be that, but don't make him make the rest of them obsolete, y'know?

And if he is the chosen one and he's got all this power, and all the skill he needs to use it well, make him pay for it.

It's like the old Legion finding Superboy. Yes, Steven is powerful and the lead but I really hope they don't ignore Peyton List.

The original 1970's UK version of The Tomorrow People was channel ITV's response to the BBC's Doctor Who.

ITV's Primeval was also a response to the BBC's relaunch of Doctor Who.

I wonder if they will get naomie harris to make a cameo appearance.

Without all the aliens and stuff from the old show the CW version does seem a bit cliche.

I liked it. I think the teleporting effects looked pretty cool. I'll stay tuned in. My biggest gripe though is a lot of the fight choreography was pretty sloppy.

I thought they shouldve made the beginning with him in the couples bed more comedic.

Did you guys know that this year marks the 40th anniversary of the original Tomorrow People series?

It was a mixed bag for me. I think they were relying far to much on the X-Men's popularity to draw an audience but it was cool when it wasn't trying so hard. Anyone get a Mutant X vibe from it?

I guess The Tomorrow People is the replacement for the much-missed Alphas series...

now that I think on it, TTP kinda has the feel of that old Mutant X series from awhile back...
