The Daily Planet Vol. 2: Superman News and Speculation Thread (🚨TAG SPOILERS🚨)

Personally I liken the idea of simply a cloned Superman evolving into Bizarro aka a failed experiment, hence becoming Bizarro-rather than "Ultraman" becoming Bizarro, which I hope will not be the actual case. That would be a huge downgrade for me. I always found Ultraman to be an interesting and complex villain. Bizarro is just a dumb clone by comparison whereas Ultraman has intellect and a goal in mind. I feel like Ultraman should be from another earth. I think it would be nice to see a Justice League movie facing off their dopplegangers from another earth, where they're evil-or some of them...Injustice or Injustice Gang...Justice Lords or whatever. It always made for a good story. One that hasn't been done in live action yet.

I wanted to think that surely in Gunn's movie, we'll see this black-suited-masked figure actually unmasking himself at some point, but if he is just this super-powered being in a black covered suit, and he's one of the 'main villains' that would be lame. I mean if it is, you can only make so many lackluster villains such as...meh...I'm too tired to think of examples--but basically you can think back to a villain that didn't have a large enough role in a movie. The mouthless fake Deadpool was one of the weakest villains ever developed. Jeff Bridges' character in Iron Man, and Ares in Wonder Woman. Ares wasn't all-that-bad, but by the end, just a powerful villain that is comparable to others. Josstice League's Steppenwolf was pretty bad.

To conclude though, as far as how "Ultraman" will be portrayed remains to be seen, but aside from that, he looks pretty lame. I mean if that's his final look in the movie, then that would be awful and a huge downgrade from how the real Ultraman should look. Also...think of Bullseye's suit from Daredevil: Born Again. Really lackluster and boring. Generic.

I'm actually looking more forward to the thunderbolts than I am F4.
But nothing tops my excitement for seeing Superman.
We desperately need that new trailer, and we need it to rock.
We need new footage and not more rehashed footage.

I feel like the anticipation for F4 has dwindled since that last trailer while Superman's seems to be increasing.

If the new trailer is anywhere near as good as the teaser, we are getting 150-200 million dollar opening. No doubt in my mind.

I'm really looking forward to this movie but all the other heroes (Green Lantern, Hawkgirl) showing up in the trailers really bother me, in the way that I really wanted a true solo Superman film. At least I hope they are a minimal part in the story.

I'm the opposite. I want it all. Give me a fully lived in DC world, Green Lantern, Hawkgirl and all. Let's go full comic book with this.

Idk if I've ever worried about supporting characters being in a film lol

Since we know these characters have such rich backstories we theorize about how they can be given motivation that's true to decades of comic lore - but that's not really what the film needs to do.

If this was a "normal" movie (it is) but with the same dual identity/balancing two worlds premise, would people really worry about there being a dozen characters outside of the lead to the point that they think the film can't work? Or would we just think that him having two sets of colleagues makes total sense given the premise?

Even as someone who thinks this movie looks basically awful the criticism of the other heroes presence feels silly to me. It’s a superhero story, superhero stories take place in worlds filled with superheroes unless they’re installments in a few very specific movie franchises. Sure, if they’re all just spinoff bait that sucks but they are probably just Characters In The Movie.

I could be wrong ( wouldn't be the first time, or the last time ) but this DCU feels like a world where Superheroes have been around for several decades.
Maybe back to the 20s or 30's even.

I thoroughly enjoy reading your posts because they always follow the same format:

“_______ movie looks like the worst thing I’ve ever seen in my life & I hate everything about it, BUT [insert thoughtful and logical statement that’s generally positive here]!”

:D

It’s a very, very funny situation to be super not into an upcoming movie based on something I love while also thinking the Hatedom for it are largely fools.

Was Superman not a true solo SUperman film?
Superman 2?
Superman 3?
Superman 4?
Superman Returns?
Man of Steel?

It's been 12 years since Man of Steel so yeah, I was looking forward to a purely Superman-centric film.
Is not a deal breaker by any means, but it does bother me a little bit.

You're not wrong. Creature Commandos gives us our first glimpse at Gunn's DCU, and it's a world where metahumans in general—not just heroes, vigilantes, etc.—are heavily integrated into society. They attend schools and have regular jobs like most everyone else. In that sense, characters like Mr. Terrific and Hawkgirl shouldn't feel too out of place in a Superman movie; it's only logical that metahuman heroes would exist in a culture where metahumans are a prevalent and accepted part of society.

I don’t know why one would think this is not Superman-centric just because it has other characters? Everything we’ve heard about the plot sounds 100% like a Superman story.
I think a lot of people just look at things on autopilot; they aren't really paying attention to the details. They just see other characters with powers and immediately assume we're getting another run-of-the-mill ensemble movie. It's a knee-jerk reaction.

After 6 solo films. 5 live action shows (only 1 that featured additional heroes eventually). 4 animated shows.....is it weird that he has a new reboot that features other heroes? Esp as supporting characters who are probably going to be in like 15min of the entire thing.
