The Daily Planet Vol. 2: Superman News and Speculation Thread (🚨TAG SPOILERS🚨)

My takeaways...

Lois and Clark's dynamic is just spot on. Superman is idealistic to the point of being naive and full of hubris. Lois checks him on that in the same way she would question anyone. And its great having an actor for Superman who can actually play those scenes and has the charisma and presence. Same thing for Lois. The two leads are perfectly cast.

Thank god they got Lex perfect. His ego and jealousy for Superman is on full display. The tone of his voice is so cold, which just feels spot on for Lex.

Is it just me or does this look more unapologetically comic booky than a lot of DC and Marvel movies have been lately? It doesn't feel like its trying to appeal to the "A24" crowd like the Thunderbolts trailers were (and Gunn isn't talking about being inspired by Kubrick, unlike another movie coming out this July) and it is Superman, the most recognizable superhero in a fully built DC Universe with other heroes and everyone looks spot on.

I'm sold. I think this will be a good movie. I can't wait for the IMAX experience.

By the way, did anyone freeze-frame the final shot before the \S/ reveal? I couldn't make out--is that a face? It's out of focus from moving so fast obviously, but that face...Bizarro possibly? And that looks like it might be pushing Superman down.

Majestic trailer. My hype level is through the roof and up, up and away. I was initially taken aback at first by Superman yelling at Lois but then I realized that’s what Superman has been missing on the big screen for almost 20 years. Passion. Dedication. A bit of naïveté but his heart is in the right place. And to that I say THANK GOD we finally have a Superman actor who can show a range of emotions, after the catatonic performances of Henry Cavill and Brandon Routh. Corenswet is going to OWN this role in a way that no one has since Christopher Reeve.

And giving a dose of reality right back to him is my girl Rachel Brosnahan. I honestly knew (not just thought, KNEW) she would be the best Lois Lane of all time the moment she was cast. And this scene confirms it. She hits Clark with a bit of reality that despite his efforts to do the right thing, even the most well-intended actions have consequences. Even so, I absolutely LOVE that Superman is taking geopolitical matters into his own hands to save lives. This is an issue that the comics often sidestep (and for good reason) but I feel like if a being like Superman actually existed in our world, he wouldn’t avoid stopping a mass slaughter of civilians just because the government doesn’t want him getting involved. If this is explored in a smart way (and not whatever nonsense Snyder was trying to do in BvS) this can be a really compelling part of the story.

Other stuff… finally, my all-time favorite supervillain looks like he’s finally getting a worthy big screen version. I have some fondness for Hackman’s Luthor but that whole refusal to shave his head or wear a bald cap for more than a few minutes always irked me. And he barely seems like a threat after the first movie. But Nicholas Hoult looks vicious, calculating and obsessed with toppling the Man of Steel. I can’t wait to see more. And everything with Ma and Pa Kent and Krypto looks adorable and heartwarming. The Engineer, Metamorpho, Mr. Terrific, Hawkgirl and Gardner all look awesome. Just inject it all into my veins right now.

10/10. BRING ON THE SUMMER OF SUPERMAN!

looking at some high definition screencaps - it all looks so good!

so good to see both ma and pa kent are in this.
i hope we are moving away from the trope of having one of the parents pass away.
it would be a nice change of storytelling where both of clark's elderly parents are still around to offer guidance and solace.

i love how it feels bright and hopeful, but there's still a sense of serious stakes and weight to all of the proceedings.

there's passion behind this project and you can see it through the screen.

Seeing both Kents alive and well is perfectly timed as I’m about to start my Lois & Clark rewatch. I will always prefer both Kents living since that was the status quo I grew up with and in that show in particular, they brought SO MUCH humanity and humor to the table. Glad to finally see that in a cinematic version. I adore those Kents.:hrt:

Yeah, I know people were worried about Gunn taking on this project, and that’s understandable. I love all of his superhero stuff (well, I’m a bit iffy on Super but I’m not sure that counts), but even I was a little nervous that Superman was a little too far outside his wheelhouse. But I think he really understands how much he needs to knock this out of the park, and not just because the future of DC Films depends on it. You can tell that it’s a true labor of love for him. He’ll never come out and say it, but you can tell from his comments he didn’t care for the previous film version of Superman and he’s been waiting for a hopeful, positive Superman movie for as long as we have. And I’m going to bet the Kent farm that he’s going to give it to us.

I had no idea that Metamorpho could assume the chemical properties of elements found outside the periodic table. That's pretty wild.
Yeah I know he’s done it in the comics before. I’m not all that familiar with him so I don’t know how his powers work - maybe he can transmute into any element he’s been near or had contact with? 🤷‍♀️

I kind of like how he’s just chilling in that chair in Clark’s cell before those Lex minions walk in…I’m thinking they get time to chat in there!

Yeah, that's what I figured. But at the same time, I kinda thought that turning into an alien substance like kryptonite might be beyond the scope of his abilities. Apparently not, though! lol

We need to make this movie successful, guys. I need to see Corenswet fight Brainiac in a sequel in 2027. So lets get this to $600m.

But who am i kidding, y'all are gonna give your money to Scarjo fighting dinosaurs instead. :o

I kid, friends, I kid.

I enjoy watching certain reaction channels. This one I think perfectly encapsulates reactions of those who were trepidatious about Superman.

why not give our money to, BOTH?

OMG is this site working for now?

I liked the trailer, not love but I thought it was a good set up with the Lois/Clark interview as the overarching trailer arch.

It has been pointed out that they removed Superman blinking when he's hit with a can so twitter can RECHOICE that Superman does not feel such things!
