The Daily Planet Vol. 2: Superman News and Speculation Thread (🚨TAG SPOILERS🚨)

From the sounds of it, the movie will piss off the right people. Glad that James Gunn doesn't seem to hold back just because it's a Superman movie.

The Suicide Squad was already politically charged in all the right ways, and so was GOTG3.

tbh, it doesn’t even take much to piss off this specific crowd.

you can portray superman exactly as he is from the comics and they will find something to nitpick about.

i’ve already seen some complaints bout how this lois is showing leadership abilities and is headstrong…even tho…thats exactly who she is…:tearsofjoy:

That's the irony of it. Just like when people complain about modern movies being woke. Not like the ones they grew up with. Not like Terminator 2.

Arnold is not a manly man!!

I quite honestly expected her to crap all over it.

We are finally here. I am getting so nervous and excited too, as the day gets closer. I’m not particularly a fan of the aesthetic or the visuals Gunn usually goes for (work with better cinematographers, please), but man, do I want this to be amazing and to succeed. I did like the stuff he did with Guardians 3; pretty mature filmmaking thematically. My hope is that he has continued that with Superman and gotten even better.

Superman has come to mean so much to me over the years. I wasn’t always a huge fan, but after reading some of his most beloved comic runs, I began to really understand and love him. Tyler Hoechlin’s version is pretty close to what first interested me in the character years ago, and for me, it’s the gold standard when it comes to live-action adaptations. His Superman is so full of hope, compassion, and kindness. He is someone who inspires you to be better, and to hold onto hope even when things feel broken. That’s what makes Superman, Superman to me. And that’s what I want from the character. The action set pieces are so secondary.

David Corenswet is an incredible casting for Superman. The more I hear him talk, the more I fall in love with him. There are so many more stories I want to see him in. Like Tyler, he just has that genuine warmth that makes you believe he was made for the part.

Which is also why I’m so nervous about this movie. Because everything is lining up perfectly for this. From what Gunn has said, he really seems to understand what Superman is supposed to be about, and then he has a terrific cast with him. It would be such a shame if the film doesn’t live up to the mark and capture that same spirit of the character that we’ve all come to love.

Staying up late because I couldn't resist seeing the social reactions.

So far, they have been overwhelmingly positive. Just about every one I've read has said it is great. I guess we'll see what the larger outlets and critical responses are soon, but a very good start.

I have a feeling this movie could very much be like the first Raimi Spider-Man film. Not perfect, but an incredibly fun movie with heart that leaves you smiling ear to ear when you leave the theater.

I think the anti Gunn crowd is/are fighting an uphill battle in trying to convince others ( and themselves ) that this will fail.
By all accounts ( so far ) we have a winner.
It's still soon, but it's looking good.

Just curious, how many of you plan on watching this film in IMAX? Is it really worth it? I don't have much experience in watching films on a IMAX screen.
Totally worth it for films shot in IMAX imo. The aspect ratio on this one isn't quite IMAX but it'll look better on an IMAX screen than regular screens for sure, as it was shot with IMAX certified cameras. It's louder than you'll be used to...but that's why I love it so much. :funny:

Strong social reactions so far but we've seen this play out so often in the past. Some cons even from the very positive reactions that makes me so freaking nervous for the reviews tomorrow! But can't wait either way. Seeing it tomorrow and fingers crossed I have at least a good time!
