hmm...whose opinion to trust...the man who has made the greatest comic book film of all time and has just done his utmost to top it by putting 100% faith in the character of bane,

>Living vicariously through the artistic decisions of a film director, however successful he/she might be.

Just cause the guy has made two solid Batman movies doesn't automatically mean he's going to hit a home run with this one. It's hard to top TDK, so, everyone is better off lowering their expectations a bit.

or some guy whose name sounds like something a child came up with, and who has a paranoia complex about mods out to get him?

I registered in 03 when I was a young teen, go ahead and bash that decision in retrospect. You got me good there.

ps. if you dont understand that knightfall was perhaps the comic event of the 90s, then you dont understand the batman mythos.

Please, condescend more. Openly disagreeing with the selection of Bane as a primary villian on this board is like telling a Mormon Joseph Smith was wrong.

In the comics the University is really a drop in the ocean, it's a starting point for the character.

Actually no, it was the final straw. he was a loner and being ridiculed all his life. He studied science and became this weird, skinny professor. once he was rejected/casted out AGAIN at that point it became the breaking point and he became Scarecrow. Revenge and preoccupation with mythology became his obsessions. In BB hes just one of many corrupted legal workers and an owner of Arkham to that. Completely different characters

Jesus,
Can I not share an opnion and something that made me laugh without it being equivalent to kicking a hornets nest?lol!
Didn't mean to offend anybody.Honest!

That feel when a guy who is posting on a SUPERHERO message board is calling someone else childish.

No, no, I mean that it was a drop in the ocean because there are so many stories, that his origin (which was based on his need for revenge) isn't 100% what the character is. How many stories with Scarecrow are there? A lot. How many have to do with him wanting revenge from the Uni? One. That's my point.

Our disagreement lies in the fact that I don't consider his line of employment (and stuff like that) a character trait. It makes no difference to me if he's a professor in one medium and a chief psychiatrist in the other.

Still, in BB he's driven by his ego and his obsession with fear and the power of the mind. The core is there.

To be fair, we were that naive when Begins was still being called "The Intimidation Game." Remember when we were like Bale dammit  and like In Nolan We Trust all the time?

:funny: I know it's mean to laugh, but I can't help it. That was hilarious.
I don't find it funny. Everyone who wants to see the trailer before it is officially released will do so, and about 85% of us already have. But asking to do what most have already done gets you banned. I understand why the Hype can't condone piracy, but it does make for a fairly farcical situation.

I suppose this is the one use for the imdb boards' existence.

Sure, if you want to dismiss the origins fine (even tho theyre very much consistent in every version), but the motivation is still there. hes still an old professor motivated by revenge and obsessed with mythology. I see noting Scarecrow like in Cillian. At all. The only thing I can think of is his line where he says that he enjoys the power of mind over body

And lets be frank here. Scarecrow is an old college psychology professor who was a loner and outcast since childhood. A weird kid who then, like many of the quiet outcast kids, goes on revenge to the popular guys and guys with power who were mean to him all his life. He is preoccupied with mythology and wants to create a god of fear. Nothing like that in BB

You will never drive 200 miles in 2002 to see Equilibrium in theaters, while creaming jeans at the idea of Bale being the next Batman.

You will never experience this.

Haha, remember when we were like "damn that guy would make a great Batman, too bad it'll never happen."

Can't say I agree with it either, but rules are rules.

Indeed.

I won't dismiss his origins completely, but to say he's driven by revenge all the time... I can't agree with that. It's not Scarecrow. And his age? Ok, so in BB he's not 45, he's 30. Did you cringe with a 60 year old Joker in B89? Is his age one of the things that define Scarecrow?

I'll give you mythology, but the fact that he explained to Falcone why he chose the "Scarecrow" mask to experiment on his inmates is a great example of what I've been saying all along: The main traits are there, just never fully fleshed.

None of the important parts (bolded) are negated in BB. Just (wait for it) never explored!

The only reason why I mentioned the age is that he was shown as being wise and a loner till a very old age, all of his life. he was the bullied kid gone bad
As for Joker being old, I always thought Joker is much older than Batman even before the movie, it wasnt until recently when I found out that Jokers more or less Batmans age

The bolded part is the key here. A 30 year old guy, who's a doctor (and a brilliant one at that) should also be able to get over his childhood traumas. He doesn't need to be 45 or 50 to convey that.

All in all, the things about comics Scarecrow that Nolan's version contradicts are pretty much trivial to me. The rest are not mentioned, making the character shallow and underused-not unfaithful.

Just like the fact that Ra's Al Ghul died on that train: Up until we learned that TDKR is set 8 years after TDK, I advocated that Nolan never made Ra's mortal. He just didn't blatantly say he's immortal and, should TDKR finish with Batman still fighting the good fight, we could assume he'd come back. Now that this is thrown out of the window (speculation), I can say that Nolan's been more unfaithful in his portrayal of Ra's than in his portrayal of Scarecrow.

As for Joker being old, I always thought Joker is much older than Batman even before the movie, it wasnt until recently when I found out that Jokers more or less Batmans age

But does it ruin Nicholson's version for you? Now that you know?

@Cyborg Ninja:

Purely conjecture on your part, as well.

There's no denying that TDK was a stellar film, however, claiming that TDKR won't top TDK simply because you harbor hatred for Bane sounds like a personal opinion rather than a fact.

Yeah, I mean I never thought Nolan would use Bane (and I was also a bit against him, tbh), but it's all about the themes and the context. If Nolan has found a way to use him effectively, why the heck not, I say.
