How opposed, it at all, would people be to adding a character to the list of prisoners in the Ice Lounge (IE Freeze's jail)?

They arent the only prisoners. There are plenty others. At least there better be...

I really should not be doing this...but I am on school holiday this week...and MB set this character up so well...and Trusty's PM was so persuasive...

DC: New Age Volume 1 Application

Screen Name:
Apprentice

Character you would like to play: The Batman (John Richard Grayson)

Powers: Remaining true to the legacy of the mantle, John has no abilities. However, he has undergone training and is an excellent gymnast by nature; agil, athletice and strong, he is a skilled hand-to-hand combatant. He has also used his father's wealth (stemming from the trust fund that Dick left behind) to develop a small arsenal of non-lethal weaponry for his vendetta against crime. This includes redesigned batarangs which he hurls with great accuracy, a small assortment of vehicles (most notably the in-development Batmobile), and a Kevlar bodysuit.

John inherited his mother's computer knowledge and has a natural flair for technology. As such, he has rejuvenated her old hideout - the Gotham Clocktower - and uses it as his own Batcave, monitoring everything he needs to from there.

However, despite these resources, John is still plagued by inexperience and is unsure of his place within the Batman legacy. He is only just beginning to settle into the costume and the responsibilities it holds, and this weakens him somewhat.

Hero/Villain: Hero

Identity: Secret

Origin:

Personality: John is a blend of conflicting emotions - from confusion as to his place in the world to muted anger at his hidden heritage. He expresses all of these, though, through his vigilante work as the Batman, a role which he, while initally struggled with, is slowly embracing. He has a fierce dedication to Gotham City and an unrivalled commitment to justice; perhaps this is a hereditary trait born into him, or perhaps it is a byproduct of his unorthodox upbringing. Either way, it makes him a formidable Batman with a dark (and often brutal) edge.

Outside of the costume, John spends a lot of his time pondering the cape-and-cowl that identify his other identity. This adds to a somewhat stoic persona that echoes that which he displays in his 'night job'.

Three reasons why you have chosen that character:

1) Master Bruce has established the character very well, and John is now in the perfect place for development and expansion.

2) I'd love to play Batman, and this is him - with some extra twists thrown in.

3) Playing a somewhat inexperienced and fresh Batman is a rare opportunity.

Write two complete sentences using proper English grammar explaining what you plan to do with the character you've chosen: I want to emphasise the fact that John is new to the mantle of the Bat and show him adjusting to his new role as he faces worse and worse threats. I also want to show his growth as he becomes more firmly caught up in the role.

How many times do you intend on posting a DAY IN the RPG: As many times as needed.

Color and font you plan on using for your characters speech: Franklin Gothic Medium for John. Bold Franklin Gothic Medium for Batman.

The Batman descended from the night sky, his cape-enshrouded figure silhouetted by the moon as it cast its pale silvery gaze over the concrete jungle below. A thin, almost invisible ropeline shot outwards, grappling a stone gargoyle and redirecting his momentum upwards. In a fluid, well-practiced motion, he served the connection and sailed upwards, his cape billowing out at his back, and landed silently on a rooftop. The city was deceptively quiet, its apparent calmness masking the darkness that threatened to consume it; it was a darkness that Batman knew all too well. His even gaze wandered across the vicinity as he strode purposefully forward, mentally re-mapping his patrol route to elude the ever-persistent police forces. Even now, the Dark Knight could almost feel the net of the authorities closing in around him, as tangible as the brisk wind that whipped at the exposed lower half of his face.

There was a familiar shuffle behind him, and he paused as Robin swaggered into the limits of his peripheral vision, his lips curved into a slight smile. "Hey, bro. You okay?"

"It's a school night. You should be at home, doing homework..." Batman paused as Robin snickered, allowing himself a small grin. "...or whatever it is that you do."

"Sorry, Dad. Speaking of dads, mine said that this was okay as long as I'm back before one," Robin retorted, drawing his cape around him.

Batman rolled his eyes behind the cowl. "You forget that he was my Dad for quite a while, as well. And that technically, I'm still your brother - I know when you're lying. Your left eye twitches a little." He returned his focus to the grim sight laid out before him, a sight that concealed the criminals that were slowly wasting away the remnants of good in Gotham. Even John had not yet fully adjusted to hurling himself into such a brutal fray; to take Jason with him was acceptable, but both John and his adoptive father were reluctant to allow it. And if they began to disobey their collective parent figure, then a line would soon be drawn in the sand...and Batman and Robin would be on the wrong side of it. "Come on, Jason. You've got to be sensible about this. Your dad is not that great about this as it is, so for the moment, at least, you've gotta stick to his rules. You should go home."

Robin, seemingly indifferent to everything else, merely commented, "You've got to make your mind up."

Batman frowned. "What?"

"You keep switching. You've said 'Dad' a couple times, and you've said 'your dad' a couple times." The Teen Wonder folded his arms across his chest almost defiantly. "So which is it? Is he your father too, or just mine?"

Batman swallowed hard, struck by his companion's heartfelt, nearly rueful tones. In truth, he could not supply a permanent response. His attitude towards the current Nightwing was trapped in a state of constant fluidity by a blend of bemused emotions: anger, sorrow, love, appreciation, gratitude, bitterness. The revelation of his true heritage and the subsequent events had left their relationship in a strange position, to say the least. "We can discuss this another time," he muttered quietly, straining to keep his voice free from elements of resentment at the question. "Right now, you should be getting home."

"*****," Robin said simply, before turning away and striding towards the roof hatch. "You can only keep dodging for so long, y'know. Oh, and don't let my soul-searing words make you forget about cracking those dealers down there."

Batman remained silent and motionless, allowing his brother to depart without further admonishment or rebuke. He inhaled deeply and stepped into the air; the resultant freefall was comforting. It demanded nothing, made no enquiries. The Dark Knight felt the wind rush up in his masked face and heard the ripple of his cape as it resisted the sudden surrender to gravity. At the last moment possible, Batman once again utilised his grapple gun and skillfully seized control of his descent, falling into a defensive crouch at the opening aperture to a grungy, dirty alleyway. Three rather ordinary figures were congegated at its end, huddled closely together and exchanging small vials of an oddly-hued substance. Heeding the vigilante's presence, they separated, pressing themselves to the surrounding walls as though the concrete would grant them refuge from the wrath of the new arrival. Batman noted one of them jamming the syringe into his arm, and his lips curled in disgust. Addiction was a terrible thing.

"You know why I'm here, and what's going to happen," he growled, stalking forward. "So are we doing this the easy way, or the hard way?"

"**** off!" one of the thugs barked, and charged forward.

"I should have known," Batman murmured dryly under his breath. He allowed his opponent to come to him, his observational skills asserting themselves far too late - a green tinge lacing the veins in his arms and face. A side-effect of the drug? Why does that seem so familiar...?

And then the criminal's fist was jammed into Batman's stomach, and the Caped Crusader was driven across the street and into a car. The windows shattered and the door crumpled, sending arcs of pure pain coursing across Batman's back. He suppressed a groan and stumbled dazedly to his booted feet, a trio of batarangs in his hand...but in a blur of motion, a second foe was launching an assault, a swift backhand sending him sprawling to the pavement. A foot clipped his chest and agony roiled through his stomach; abruptly, his breathing became shallow and his lungs were racked with a bizarre tingling sensation.

Punctured lung, he realised, weakly raising his wrist communicator to his lips. "Reddy, I need you," he gasped, only for something to collide with his head. He was claimed swiftly by unconsciousness...

I had a feeling that no one would have a chance in resisting the portrayal of Batman, even though it was MB who established him. :o

Editing roster now. Oh, and Apprentice? Batman's last name is Gordon. But I wasn't going to prevent approval cause of it. Just make note. :P

What's Jimmy Olsen up to these days? Cuz I was thinking, if he's not dead, about establishing him as the Question until Vic gets out of the Cooler.

I'd check with Karem about that. My memory is groggy, but I think he is head of the Daily Planet now? I gotta re-read the IC thread to make sure though. Been a while.

Yeah he's head of the Planet. The Joker threatened him when he got out of Arkham.

Two-Face removed from the roster at Nowufacedoom's request. However, since he only had one post in the IC thread as Two-Face, and not much was done (was a flashback post of TLH scene), there is nothing really established with him.

Thus, he will not be added to the "previously established characters" post I linked from the Roster.

DC: New Age Volume 1 Application

Screen Name:
trustyside-kick

Character you would like to play:
Rick Flag III ; Bronze Tiger II

Powers:
None, but is a superb martial artist, ranking as Ben Turner's top student in the Tiger Dojo. He utilizes certain weaponry however, which will be revealed in my posts to come.

Hero/Villain:
Villain

Identity (Public/Secret?):
Public

Origin (If not a new character, a recap of events leading to how your character got to what they are today):
When President Luthor enacted the Superhero Registration Act, the heroes who did not comply with it were sought after by a team of villains famously known as The Suicide Squad. In return for helping to capture and contain the Rogue-Heroes, they were granted amnesty, rather being thrown in Victor Fries' space prison. Rick Flag Jr. lead the time with his best friend Ben Turner co-leading.

In an encounter with the Rogue-Hero Captain Atom, there were extreme casualties as his containment suit was ruptured, releasing his Quantum Energy to go unstable. The explosion resulted in the deaths of many, including Rick Flag. Ben Turner survived the blast, and they proceeded with sending the unconscious Nathaniel Adam to Mr. Freeze's space prison.

Granted amnesty after their final mission, the Suicide Squad broke apart. With Flag gone, it wasn't the same anymore. Rick Flag had a son, and he and Turner had known this for quite some time; but the two never reunited. Even though Rick Flag III never knew his biological father, Turner felt obligated to finally approach him years later. Turner became a family friend of the foster family, and kept an eye on young Rick as if he was his own in honor of his father.

When Turner was approached by the U.S. Government yet again to serve another civil duty, he was surprised. It but it would seem President Luthor's administration would be in need of his services again. The war against the Rogue-Heroes who continued to not comply with the Registration Act, were getting more organized, becoming a harder threat to resolve. So Turner was asked to re-open his Tiger Dojo, and train the men for the newly created anti-metahuman agency.

To Turner's surprise, Rick Flag's son showed up one day, enrolled onto his roster. While he did not know his father, he still agreed with the registration act, and what it stood for: a safer America without any unchecked, wild heroes and villains. He became Turner's top student, and became a most valuable asset to the anti-metahuman agency. Rick Flag's son lives on, with Turner's approval of taking up the Bronze Tiger persona since he has been retired for many years.

Personality:
Brought up disciplined by the Tiger Dojo, he is proper and takes orders well. If you will, the perfect soldier when it comes to what a higher-ranking officer respects, rather than a soldier who doesn't listen to orders. He is loyal to his job, for his strong beliefs in its meaning, but the fact that his father died serving the country to rid themselves of Superheroes outweighs everything else. Deep down, it is a personal vendetta since his father died at a situation that got out of control, all because of an unstable, unchecked, superhero.

Three reasons why you have chosen that character:

1) I wanted to tackle a character that most likely wouldn't have been touched.

2) Considering the back story for this RPG, and the coincidence of what is occurring in Suicide Squad and Salvation Run? The idea sounded great to me.

3) I like Bronze Tiger, a good amount. Because this is 20 years from the current time-line of the DCU, it would've been odd to try to play a much older Ben Turner. Given his history with Rick Flag, and their time on the Suicide Squad, and the whole Registration Act, it just made sense to me.

Write two complete sentences using proper English grammar explaining what you plan to do with the character you've chosen (i.e. What are your goals? Will you be doing anything different with the character than is usually seen?):
As long as this RPG has been around...while it has struggled, no one ever addressed anything relating to the capturing of metahumans. I wanted to take a wack at that, since I am currently doing other things with my other character in this RPG.

How many times do you intend on posting a DAY IN the RPG:
As much as would be needed to push stories as well as the RPG in general along.

Color and font you plan on using for your characters speech:
Bolded, Light, Orange, Franklin Gothic Medium

How did you find out about this game, Recruitment thread/word of post/seeing the RPG OOC/IC thread?
Already a part of this RPG and I serve as an AGM.

Please provide a small sample post with original content in the style that you plan to write your character in (must be at least 3 paragraphs long and contain at least one line of dialogue):

All the other men in training are still in their barracks, enjoying what little sleep they are allowed in the line of work they do. But Rick Flag can think of no better way to spend his 'own' time then serving punches to a punching bag in the gym. Their entire day practically consists of training anytime they are not out and about apprehending more and more superheroes who simply refuse to obey the law. A familiar friend enters the gym.

"You hit that punching bag any harder, it just might explode."

"That's the idea, Ben."

Rick continues his workout, giving the punching bag everything he has got as if it were an opponent. He doesn't tire, and he doesn't slow down. He dishes out blow after blow, until Ben catches the bag from the other side after one swift jab.

"Come on, kiddo. How about we spend this downtime sitting down, eating breakfast. You know, catch up on a few things. Ever since you graduated from the Dojo, things aren't the same."

"How's my mom?"

"She's good. She'd like it if you'd stop by, though. We both would."

"I got a job to do, Ben. You know that, and you understand. You'd think that these superheroes and supervillains would give it all a rest, but some just don't know how to obey a law other than their own made-up ones."

"Well I didn't drive up all the way here for nothing, kid. So, hit the showers, and meet me outside. I'll be in my car. Figured I'd treat you to a breakfast, catch up on a few things."

Rick starts hitting the punching bag as Ben leaves the gym when Ben stops, and puts his arms on his waist. He doesn't even have to turn around to get Rick's attention.

"I said, quit slapping that damn bag of sand, and get ready. Don't make me go over there and give you a whoopin'."

Rick stops, and grabs the punching bag to stop it from swinging. He leans his head against it as he pants. He cannot help but smirk.

"You sure you still got it in you?"

Ben turns his head back.

"Boy, don't test me."

He smirks, and walks off. Rick Flag walks over to the bench, grabs his towel, and dabs himself on the face as he heads for the showers.

Accepted.

Woot. Time to get some P.O.V. from the people enforcing the registration act. :clown:

Also, since this is always fun, and can grab attention just for being fun...shall I do MicroHeroes of the characters? It wouldn't be a roster picture or anything, just to have them for the sake of having them is all. I still have my Owen MicroHero and with this RPG starting to get life breathed into it, I figured what the heck. :word:

Now that I have nothing major in school, I'll have time to edit in my J'onn sample. Look for it in an hour or so.

I see no decrepit old man in that line-up of stylish and well-built men, Catman. No decrepit old man! :cmad: I'mma get elongated on yo ass.

Cos of my body of course. Any thoughts on Power Man? I didn't know what his costume was going to be so I based it on the Power Girl colour scheme, with the Superman costume.

Perhaps use the Power Boy costume with a red cape?

I couldn't find any micros to base it on anyway. Oh well, if Byrd's got any grief about it, I'm sure I'll hear it...very vocally.

Yeah, that, and you'll get dead animals sent to your house every day until you do it the way he wants.

.......sheesh, you call him Bird Man one time...:csad:

Ah I didn't get animals. I got human bodies with birds head sewn onto the top...was a fun Christmas, really fun.

Hmm. The Question hasn't posted as Joker in awhile, has he?

Interesting...
