DC Films The DC Studios News and Discussion Thread

But I think if Abrams does end up taking on Supes, he'll move on with someone new. He loves finding fresh faces.

That he does. But he also likes to stick with people he’s comfortable with.

He was very complementary about Cavill a few years ago, but that doesn’t mean anything.

I cant believe how worried i am about Superman, considering im mainly a Batman guy.
This uncertain state we are in when it comes to the man of steel movie(s) is really annoying.
I just want a simple, feel good Superman movie...shouldnt be too much to ask.
The WB people really dont handle the DC universe as good as it could, dont get whats their deal.

Anyway MBJ as superman would be cool but i wouldnt want to give up Cavill.
Also i feel like you could be a bit more creative with Calvin Ellis Superman to be honest.
It gives you this extra room to move and do crazy cool things with.

The whole Race debate is something i dont really want to be part of, already was annoying enough most recently with Reeves Gordon casting.
But i dont see why we couldnt have both, why not doing a Calvin Ellis Superman Movie and a Clark Kent one.
Or have one be a animated movie like in spider-man into the spider-verse?

Its frustrating and all but i we like it or not, race is still a big thing and too many idiots cant see past it.
And yes i know for many its not even about that and the fact that they have this specific picture of clark kent superman, which happens to be white...thats okay, it doesnt make one a bad person to want that which they grew up with.
That needs to be respected.
Personally yeah, i could see a black clark kent superman because the idea of not belonging and so on hits harder because of the real world where black people sadly are still treated according to their skin color.
But you could do that and even more the same with Callvin Ellis, you could elevate this character for the future...build up this or a complete new universe in the DC world.

You could do something outstanding that you might not get with clark kent or a black clark kent.
You have a foundation with Callvin Ellis that is so unbelievable strong in terms of freedom and message, i think that is worth exploring.

I'm getting annoyed of seeing Michael B Jordan as Superman rumors again and news about him pitching a movie to WB with him in the role. I know I'm about to get angry quote replies but I want Clark Kent/Superman as is and not suddenly black or whatever else! Minor characters are okay I guess but majorly established characters such as Batman and Superman is just a no no for me.

If Michael B Jordan wants to be a DC superhero then give him Black Lightning, Green Lantern or Steel!
You need to watch what Michael B. Jordan said on Oprah. He is not trying to be Kal-El (Clark Kent). He was pitching Calvin Ellis a black Superman that was in the comics. Let's face it fans seem to not like Superman anymore. Captain America has taken his spot. To me Man of Steel was better then any of the Nolan Batman movies except for the Dark Knight. I love Supes but I remember when BVS was announced everybody was picking Batman to win the fight. It just shows the world does not like Big Blue as he has been shown on screen. I would love to see Michael B. become Icon, the true black Superman and we would not have to worry about the color changing. A Icon/Superman movie would be fun and original.

In an interview with EW, David Corenswet said his pie-in-the-sky ambition is to definitely play Superman.

So is the Green Lantern movie still happening? Or are they going to move forward with the TV show? I’m confused.

LOL, I don’t think they know what they’re doing, to be honest.

Both are still being worked on but the TV show looks more ready to go:

Beyond embracing the darker undercurrents of the DC canon, the company is also revisiting characters that they believe were ill-served by previous big screen adventures. “Green Lantern Corps” remains a priority despite the fact that 2011’s “Green Lantern” was a high-profile commercial disaster. Johns is delivering a script at the end of the year. The project may be presented to Abrams and Bad Robot to see if the company would be interested in producing the picture. However, Greg Berlanti, another major talent on the Warner lot, is partnering with Johns on a “Green Lantern” television show. There’s speculation that relationship could lead to his involvement in a feature film.

Meh. I'd have no problem with MBJ as Superman, the only reason I wouldn't want to see it is because of the fanboy meltdowns that would result because of his casting.

I wish he'd be interested in Black Lightning, because his casting would definitely help elevate the character.

In regards to Superman, I hope the next film tries to do something different with the character. No Silver Age influenced Superman, and definitely no John Byrne type Superman either.

Also, having Hal Jordan play a supporting role to John Stewart is a terrible idea.

I think one viable approach is to do a John Stewart-centered film with Hal as a supporting character. You can't really do a John Stewart origin film without Hal (Hal's involvement varies from writer to writer).

WB is going to be scrutinizing the GLC script closely. They got burnt on the 2011 Reynolds film and they want this to be their answer to Captain Marvel. They may green light a GLC film with Hal and John as co-leads, but if they green light a GLC film with John as the lead and Hal a supporting character -- I am A-OK with that.

As long as they make a GOOD GL film, give Hal his origin story in a sequel. Let John Stewart be a positive role model for black kids like T'Challa and the women of Wakanda were in Black Panther.

Whilst I wouldn't have a problem with this, I'd be tempted to go one step further and introduce Jessica Cruz as well; either as another main (being trained up alongside John) or as a new, younger recruit that would appear at toward the end of the film as John's protege.

That way you don't just attract the African/American community, but also the Latio.

Yeah not the worst idea.
From what i remember, the plan a few years back was to have a GL movie that introduces a few GL, John Stewart, Hal Jordan and Kyle Rayner and have each their own movie then as part of a Green Lantern movie universe.

Bringing a GL movie where you have a few of the known lanterns team up to kind of get a starting point, would be a interesting idea.
That way you can get a feeling what the audience liked and what not instead of trying a highly antipicated Origin movie, failing and standing there with nothing.
Having already a few in and seeing who worked or needs to be reworked, would be a smart idea.

Man, that would be something...starting off a GL movie universe with all 4 and then split up and have each of them have their own movie...would be sweet.

If GL is going for a Star Wars vibe then an ensemble would be the way to go- where not everyone and everything has to be given an origin. We see how big the universe is and things already established. So you just jump to different parts of it. Humans are already well-established in the Corps and not everything is new to them. So there's the GL Corps, with the threat of Sinestro and the Yellow Lanterns, and then the other Lanterns, planets etc.

And why not a diverse Corps, it's already like that in the comics with John, Kyle, Jessica, Simon, and all the different planets, Lanterns, tribes and races etc.

If Aquaman, WW and SS can continue after "Snyder-verse" has ended, and if WB can introduce Shazam and Black Adam, there's no reason why Batman couldn't be successful going forward.

Which is why making a separate Batverse with Matt Reeves unnecessary. solo Batman movies set before the events of MoS could work just fine.

So, now Bat characters are distributed over two different franchises.

Will Amanda Waller, Harley Quinn, Black Mask, Zasz, Huntress, Renee Montoya, Cassandra Cain, Captain Boomerang never interact with Batman ?

( to say nothing about Deadshot, Deathstroke, Killer Croc, Katanna, Joker as all of them are in DCEU.)

I would rather have Batman appear in DCEU. WB are short sighted and are just looking at another Nolan like Bat-trilogy from Matt Reeves, nothing beyond that.

That’s well and good, but they need to focus on making a good film. You don’t want to overpack the movie with characters if the success isn’t guaranteed.

WB just needs to get the core main GL story right. Then get characters like Jessica, Kyle, et al for sequels.

I would not be opposed if they cast Ana de Armas as Jessica Cruz.

Ana de Armas for everything. Seriously, I'd watch her in just about any role.

Isn't the scoop from We Got This Covered which is usually not reliable?

This is so out of nowhere I’m almost inclined to believe it.

either this guys publicist leaked it in the hopes of getting the ball rolling, or it’s legit

It cites Men’s Health as their source at the bottom, and Men’s Health cites ****************, so it’s BS y’all. Much as I’d be thrilled to believe otherwise.

That site is so awful when will people stop printing their bull**** stories

I don't know how he can be a front runner to replace Cavill when there is no Superman movie in active development?!
