DC Films The DC Studios News and Discussion Thread

Jeff Sneider says one name he’s heard for new DC Films chief is former Legendary CEO Thomas Tull.

Maybe they have already tried to reach out. Who knows. You can only do so much for someone who doesn't want to change. Speaking from experience.
Maybe, but so far it seems that they're surrounded by enablers. I don't know what's the truth with those allegations. I've never heard about anyone voicing their concern for them. From the outside looking in of course.

I find it pretty amazing how people turned on Zaslav so quickly. People hated how the old regime put streaming first and worried that theatrical was going by the wayside. Now we have Zaslav who is committed to theatrical and the traditional window and people are scared for the streaming services. It’s pretty entertaining.

Well, I can't speak for the streaming aspect , I don't have HBO Max, so I'm not personally as invested as other people may.

But in terms of Zaslov's other recent actions: I've never had any expectations with him unlike alot of fans did, since ,I've seen the whole " this is the guy to shake things up" routine several times before with WB.

At this point , all I've heard is alot of talk . We've heard about plans before , and so I can't praise the guys handling of DC films until I actually see some DC films that are under his watch.

And to be fair, he hasn't had a chance to deliver actual products yet.

Once , he actually delivers on this "reset" and this "reset ", puts bums in seats, and helps shepherd films that connect with the GA, and creates the quality films he says he aspires to, then, I'll give him credit.

But he's got to deliver something first, and at this point, he hasn't had a chance to.

It's an interesting listen. I can't comment on the streaming aspect, but the rest of it it sounds to me like he's saying the right things, things that I would think any DC fan would agree with and want. Time will tell...

It's all pretty general for the most part , but, it'll depend on how the Zaslov era of DC films will turn out .

Well, good or bad...the only thing we can do is wait and see.
There is little else we can do about this.

Well, people always hate a new direction because it might suck.
So its not really shocking that people fear now that what worked for them, is in danger because the new driver is going a different direction.

True. You won’t see his actual plans take effect for a few years still.

I think it's important we all remember that Warner Bros are currently moving ahead with the launch of a movie starring someone who is on video assaulting a woman, has been arrested multiple times for assault and harassment, and has been the subject of temporary restraining orders.

It's f***king deplorable, and wouldn't be happening, were it not for the millions of dollars invested in the film. People in the industry have had their careers cancelled, destroyed or negatively affected for saying or doing far FAR less (or hell, just being in a movie that WB decides not to release) and yet, here we are, with Miller still likely to earn millions and enjoy a star turn in a major blockbuster.

Any discussion of the DCEU and WB's strategy moving forward should be tainted with this, until they cancel the damn film, or at least reshoot without Miller.

Hmmm I like that new ceo is trying to do something, than throwing a bunch of films for HBO MaX while making theatrical films.

But I still think DC needs a fresh slate.

Joker PhoeniX
The Batman Trilogy
DCEU

Three different continuities... like how long is this going to keep up? The Batman Trilogy just feels temporary since they mentioned it will be a trilogy, so we are only down to 2 films before another Batman reboot. While Joker isn't a superhero so more films for him, won't be that interesting to me.

Personally Id like to see a DC Cinematic Universe in which Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Green Lantern and The Flash get their own film every 2 to 3 years, and assemble for a Justice League movie every 3 years. I would have more interest in movies for Suicide Squad, Shazam, Black Adam, Birds of Prey and Blue Beetle, if the 7 I mentioned were regularly getting movies and characters like Shazam/Black Adam end up in Jl but none of those are gonna happen anytime soon.

If he was not looped into the decision to can Batgirl, I can't imagine he's been involved in whatever conversations are taking place about the "ten-year plan."

Sounds like October is the end for Hamada. At least at DC.

Ray Fisher will be happy

there's a reason why i stopped reading comics altogether and i stopped caring about MCU for the same reason so i just hope DC won't go that route.

If people replace their fan hat with their CEO hat, I'm curious about where they stand on greenlighting a sequel to ZSJL. It seems like it would tick a lot of boxes in Zaslav's list.
  • It'd avoid starting over from scratch, which in itself is a risk. It'd un-fragment their movie universe.
  • It'd use versions of the characters that already have a degree of audience investment. Momoa's popular, most people like Gadot and Affleck.
  • It would have plenty of social media presence.
  • If the film does great, it'll make solo films a more solid commodity than they have been.
  • It's a spot to introduce new characters outside of the established Leaguers. Atom, New Gods, Legion of Doom. Spin-offs galore, many birds with one stone.
  • It'd fix their bad blood with Snyder, the credit of which would go to the new regime.
Outside of not trusting Snyder's ability to deliver when everything's in his favor (BvS), I think they've probably acknowledged at some point that it makes fiscal/practical sense.
