DC Films The DC Studios News and Discussion Thread

Gunn does love posting these Alex Ross pics (not that I blame him)!

Still kinda sounding like a semi-hard reboot to me. I dunno. Just seems like he's being careful in his wording.

Which makes sense if allegedly He will present the whole plan Next week to WB and cant be sure how much they Support.
We will see, we know as much as before now.

Ultimately, it doesn't make sense to continue the current version of the DC cinematic universe. Finish off what you can and start fresh.

Personally, I feel bad for Henry getting the shortchanged again. The guy makes a public announcement that he's back as Superman and even talks to several journalists about it, only for James Gunn to come along and cancel him without any notice.

It still sounds like a rebooted universe is the direction Gunn and company are heading in.

If that is one of those reports that are True.
And at the Moment its the one to me that would suck Big time.
Like im not even a Fan of cavill or so, but After years and years of him hoping, then when it seemed to be a possible chance for him to lace up the boots one more time...getting canned...would suck so Hard.
I can Deal with no AM3, WW3, Ba2 leading into a vs shazam movie etc...but Cavill Not getting a second Chance even for one final movie...that would be really awful.

But in the end, they gotta move forward and if cavill has no place in that, then thats how it sadly goes.

Cavill’s literally the #1 thing they should have ditched already. If they canned Patty Jenkins and James Wan while keeping Henry Cavill of all people…that’s all I’d need to know to tell me they’re running this brand further into the ground.

Best news. I tapped out of the DCU for a few years now. A fresh reboot will get me back in.

Yeah, I really think it's time. From a business perspective, the goal, however improbable, won't change for the foreseeable future; and that goal is to emulate the success of the MCU. So, they might as well start afresh to avoid any complications that sometimes arise from remnants of previous regimes.

I don’t personally think this Snyderverse is unsalvageable by any means and I think they can totally get it back on track. There are some real gems in this incarnation (Gadot as WW is the biggest one for me), but looking at it from an unbiased viewpoint, I can understand why they would want to start completely from scratch.

Despite some of the highlights, the general consensus is that DC is a huge mess full of duds. And it’s hard to argue that because it’s true. Plus add in the real life controversies surrounding Ezra and Amber Heard, it’s not shocking they want to move away from that.
It’s an uphill battle to they have, one way or the other.

I would honestly be fine with them fully rebooting the universe, but maintaining some of the castings and just have them play new versions of those characters. I doubt that would happen, but I could totally suspend my disbelief for that

I will say one thing that really bums me personally which I know in the grand scheme of things is low priority, is the Keaton situation.

Having him come back has been a dream for so many. An impossible dream. But then it happened! And then they say he isn’t just a glorified cameo, he has a large role! And then it got even bigger and they said he would have an important role in the DC universe as a whole!
…and now it feels like that’s all being taken away completely. Here’s hoping he has a very good part in The Flash and that the film is really strong

I will be disappointed if Cavill is gone for good but I understand it, if they do a full on reboot.

Jeff Sneider (Collider) is promising the “rain scoops” on some radio show in about an hour.

Soft reboot sounds like the direction they're going which is probably best case scenario for those involved.

I can live without Cavill, Jason, and Gal. They all played the roles to the best of their ability but Gal could easily be out-acted by a new actress, Cavill I feel bad for because he really wants that "Traditional " Superman film but, he's only the best choice until a new one comes along, and Jason is a cool dude but his Aquaman is very much Him in a costume so if they wanted a more by the books portrayal in the future there's room for a new actor and new stories.

I won't be upset if they all stay of course but IF everyone's leaving I can see the best case scenario in it.

I hadn't considered the talent agencies in all of this. I can see how dropping the current actors might cause some of the bigger agencies to shy their clients away from WBD and/or DC Films. And you already get a sense that Dwayne Johnson would be a huge baby about it.

Gunn and Safran have a tight rope to walk. That's for sure.

Bringing Keaton back as Batman was a good idea, but it never should have been as part of a Flashpoint storyline that is literally connected to a different universe. It just feels like they were trying to throw a different universe Batman into their existing one to prop it up. By all means, create a DC universe around Keaton's Batman (maybe bring back Burton and bring in Nicolas Cage's aborted Superman if you want), but I never wanted to see Ezra Miller's Flash hanging out with him. That doesn't fit.

This. It'll be so frustrating if he doesn't have the large role in the DCEU that was originally planned, but at least let him be a major part of The Flash and get a solid send-off (maybe along the lines of Thomas Wayne Batman in the Flashpoint comic).

I think that article is quite clearly a plant by 7 Bucks, as have ALL articles in Deadline in the last few days.

DJ has egg on his face and is getting revenge. Talking about "his" plans for the DCEU only to find it doesn't exist and he's likely not in the new universe.

How we know they were the ones who planted this story.

Do they though?

Jenkins has been notoriously difficult and disconnected. I'm not sure she's a loss for WB. She developed quite the ego following WW's success. Odd, considering she rode the wave of praise after the film and then somewhat disowned it. She hasn't exactly got rival studios knocking on her door.

Andy Muschietti and Matt Reeves are both on board with Gunn. James Mangold wants to work with the new DC Studios.

James Wan was likely done after AM2 anyway.

As for the cast - Momoa seems to be on board, Ezra's career is over, Affleck has already moved on, Keaton doesn't care, Gadot's career outside of WW isn't exactly on fire, Cavill is a pariah amongst the big studios.

Johnson is the main problem, but he's already shown he isn't the draw that he thinks he is and his production company didn't exactly produce a great film.

Not seeing a huge issue here.
