DC Films The DC Studios News and Discussion Thread

I mean I just wouldn't worry about that. Ben Affleck wanted to direct a Batman movie after Nolan, Matt Reeves wanted to direct a Batman movie after Nolan. Even with all the **** the DCU gets thrown at it, it has largely managed to attract quality directors. James Mangold wants to work in the current DCU.
Well, they were in a position where they managed to come in to do their own thing. Even when Reeves was gonna do the movie with Affleck, the DCEU was so barely established and such a carcass of a universe at that point one could argue he could've done anything with that iteration of the character. If the DCU is gonna be more streamlined and set with a better foundation, it's gonna be harder to find a competent blockbuster filmmaker that'd offer something unique and personal like Reeves and Nolan did because the pressure of the work would double.
idk I know it's 7 years away but it's still an issue they're gonna have to deal with.

Technically speaking guys we’re already in a world where there are multiple cinematic Batmen happening concurrently. Affleck AND Keaton will be co starring in The Flash next year so…that will be a litmus test as to how audiences feel about having different Batmen running around in DC movies…which i suspect they wont much care.

Having two different Batmen for a one-off film is an entirely different beast than having two different separate Batman franchises running together.

Who said there’s going to be two separate Batman franchises?

What about DCU Batman just shows up in DCU team up movies. That seems the more realistic option.

That's what I've been thinking as well. Even with Reeves' Batman existing in a separate universe, he'd still fall under the DC Studios umbrella. Meanwhile, the DCU Batman (played by whomever) can be used to GREAT EFFECT in mash-up/ensemble films. If the studio wants to use him in standalone films, they can do that further down the road but needn't fast-track it.

Exactly.

Honestly, DC/WB might as well be a comedy nowadays. Can you have a hotter of hotter messes?

Look, all I know is that Peacemaker and all of them better not be making it into this new universe as they currently are.

Omggg we won ? not Cavill ???

Anyone give me a quick update please. I'm super lost

Hard reboot makes the most sense I guess. Although, with this push for a shared universe, why is the Coates Superman project still in development? I know it’s separate from what Gunn is writing but it would make more sense to scrap that project too, unless it’s a different character?

It’s never easy to cut the cord and start from scratch but it has to be done. I respect Gunn for coming right out and being direct about what’s going to happen. Excited to see a revamped DCU down the line.

With that being said, on a human level, what they’ve done to Henry Cavill is incredibly ****ed up and embarrassing for him. WB (not blaming Gunn) and those involved with these films (including The Rock) have now ****ed him over multiple times in various ways. This might have been the most humiliating one of all. Genuinely feel bad for the guy, but who knows. Maybe Henry is secretly relieved that it’s all finally over.

So they are going with a younger Superman, very early in his career (so they are going to take The Batman approach to it).

Sucks for Cavill though. Man.

Wait, isn't the Coates movie? I'm confused.
100% happiness cancelled. I want black superman :csad:

Gutted for Cavill.Issue is imo you bring him back you have to bring back the rest and well Lex was awful and I was no fan of Lois either .Also perhaps they want to go back to the Lois not knowing he is Superman aspect .

Meanwhile Cavill out means reboot so ( as they want a connected universe ) so that's the Flash and Aquaman movies both a waste of time really.I won't be paying money to go see them ,I'll maybe catch them when come to streaming .
This would also suggest the reason Jenkins could do no more as they simply didn't want another WW movie ,iregardless of W84 being crap.

Regarding Cavill, I don't know how things work in detail, but I think The Rock and his teams have really parasitized their hierarchy (which apparently hasn't changed in the favor of his ego) and dragged the poor guy into their disillusionment. After turning the page with some success,I guess he would have been fine without ridiculing himself by falling back into this little game of contradictory announcements that have characterized Warner's DC projects for too long... A disastrous but unsurprising epilogue.

More generally, Gunn and Safran have been clear about not revealing what they're up to until early next year. Yet, we saw Patty Jenkins leave a few days ago (leaving little doubt about what Gadot is going to do, imo) and they choose to made it clear, tonight, that Cavill is out...
I frankly suspect this December will see more such announcements in order to distance the detail of the new DC Universe from the inevitable drama from the fans of the old project. This gives time to let the farewells be partly digested and to create some mediatic momentum by striking in two times.

NOW RECAST WONDER WOMAN

It's a role that has unfortunately been wasted on an actress who doesn't have the chops to convey much in terms of acting. Facts.

It's not so much disillusionment as it was clear that Henry had conversations with WB regarding his return. It was stupid of Zaslav and team to allow Henry to say ANYTHING regarding his return when they didnt even know what they wanted out of the DCU or the potential person/people they would select to run it.

It was so weird as everyone else denies being cast till they are blue in the face until they are legit officially announced, and here they all rushed it out so fast (to support BA).
