DC Films The DC Studios News and Discussion Thread

I mean, its fine having the Reevesverse Batman and a DCU batman. The suggestion of making DCU Batman as comic accurate as possible would be a good way to deviate from what Reeves and Co. are doing in their little corner. Give us the grandiose Batcave with all the toys and easter eggs, a proper Wayne Manor, Alfred with a pointy stache an a horseshoe haircut, some sort of batfamily...... maybe even some undies if they're feeling extra brave and bold :oldrazz:

I am going to be very unnerved if they force Battinson into this new DCU. Let Reeves do his thing separately and get a new Batman for the DCU. Reeve's Batman would not feel right interacting with Wonder Woman and Green Lanterns and space aliens. I really dont get why some people want that.

Get a new, more comic booky Batman for Gunn's universe that is intrinsically designed to be a Batman that could plausibly fit in with all the supernatural and fantastical elements of the DC Universe. Like Affleck's was.
How would they force him? Kidnap him in the middle of the night? :D

If they want him they have to make him an offer - and he is allowed to say no to that offer if he prefers to do other things.

Haha, I think this can potentially work well if they choose to go this route. No point having the other Batman be too similar to Battinson, so they can really go all out while we have this realistic/noir version in the Reeves-verse.

I hope he goes for a bronze age style Batman. Blue and Gray suit (looking at Dan Mora for inspiration). Globe trotting adventures with a James Bond flair, without any hesitation to go down a fantastical route.

All of which would open the door for more Justice League team-ups.

Although, didn't Zaslav say he only wanted ONE Batman on the big screen?
This is the way. And lean heavily into the Bat Family. Easier to justify having yet another Batman on screen when he's part of an ensemble of characters.

The real question is: Will Gunn hold off on introducing his Batman until Reeves' is about finished up with his stuff (2028-ish), or will they try running two versions of Batman concurrently? Zaslav seemed to suggest he wasn't keen on the latter idea.

EXACTLY. Thats what I'm saying. Reeve's Batman could be the grounded, gritty one, while the new DCU Batman can be a more comic booky one like the Bruce Timm/Conroy Batman that can handle supernatural stuff. There would be such a wide distinction between the two that no one would care that there are two Batmen.

Apologies if someone already mentioned this but apparently various reporters were invited to an event at WB today where Gunn is going to reveal the first few DCU movies. Then the various trades are gonna release press about it tomorrow. KC Walsh is tweeting about it now.

Seems weird to do that. Risking leaks and 24 hours of fake scoops.

Gunn's been pretty engaging with the fanbase thus far. Sucks that they don't get this announcement firsthand.

Well, sounds like Gunn will get off to a bad start if true.

I think Gunn will hold off introducing his Batman until after Reeves is done.

Plus, this will probably be very anti-climactic.

- Superman
- Amanda Waller/Secret Six TV series
- Booster Gold
- The first ''chapter'' of the DC Universe will begin in 2024.

''We look forward to sharing our 2023 movies with audiences and can't wait to talk about our plans more in the future!''

I'm not getting my hopes up for anything substantial.

The fans will eat him alive if it's "only two" projects announced.
If he thinks he was roasted over the firings, just wait.

I want them to go the Bat-family route and fantastical with the next Batman regardless of where it happens. We've had 2 great grounded Batmans (ignoring Snyder's), possibly 2 trilogies of it in a row and that's been absolutely great but I would like to see it switched up next time out.

I agree. To me this seems like a WB decision if I had to guess. When I first started seeing tweets about an event today, I assumed Gunn was going to do something similar to what Feige did with the El Capitan event.

Well my broader point was that pandemic or not, the DCEU has been dead in the water at the box office since 2018, while non-DCEU films have been big successes.

My point re: WW1984 and The Suicide Squad was that even in the context of the pandemic, they were comparatively weak compared to their peers and didn't indicate any sort of firm GA attachment to Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn or Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman.

Momoa is the bigger wildcard because he was more successful as Aquaman and played a character very different from the one in the comic books. An actor can play a GA acceptable Wonder Woman or Harley Quinn without upsetting the GA because Gadot and Robbie are comic accurate. Without Momoa, do they risk upsetting the audience by doing a comic accurate Aquaman or do they hire someone to impersonate Momoa.
True, but Aquaman also had a much bigger scale to it and that played very well in certain overseas markets. I wouldn't give all the credit of Aquaman's box office success to him.

But why make it ''private'', only to deal with leaks and other nonsense before announcing it 24 hours later anyway.

Drop a press release/release a video with Gunn/Safran online. All this secrecy and build-up is hardly needed.

Oh I agree. It seems bizarre to wait that long. That's why I think it's a WB thing. A bunch of Hollywood execs trying to play ball with the trades so they have first dibs to report on it. But why they need 24 hours to do it? Shrugs

Still heavily in the camp they should wait until Reeves is done before introducing the DCU Batman. Zero need to have him right away.

I would agree... but with Gunn pushing his Superman and hinting that Wonder Woman will feature in the first 3 years of the slate, it just feels a little strange that Batman would be on the sidelines.

It would be nice to see The Trinity together (and done in the right way).

I can handle if it's just a superman and some other character film announcement.
The question is can most of the fans and public?
Big things are expected and I fear it won't be THAT big of a deal in their eyes. We'll see.

I'm pretty jittery. Even a small slate would get me going as long as they include 1 Superman solo, 1 Justice League thing and 1 "obscure" property.
