DC Films The DC Studios News and Discussion Thread

Alright, they better deliver tomorrow if this is the kind of response we’re getting….. I trust Gunn and his pal Pete to do so, at least for now

Ehhh I've watched a lot of Grace Randolph over the years. She hates everything that doesn't align with her very specific version of what it should be until she sees it. Almost 0% chance she will be positive tomorrow.

This applies to Marvel as well with her. With added hair style hate.

She also has gone full WOKE. So it’s hard to take her reviews seriously. Grace did a fair review of the Batman after questioning if Matt Reeves could handle it. Now Reeves and Pattinson are the best in her eyes. Then again she is questioning the benefits of making the Penguin series. She still questions if anyone truly watched Peacemaker.

I'm watching Grace Randolph's livestream where she's talking about it and i am really surprised at the amount of fans that are basically saying Gunn needs to force Matt Reeves to make his Batman canon with the DCU. That really baffles me that theres so many people out there who are seemingly ok with monkey wrenching that in there. Cuz, you know, it always works out so well when directors are forced to compromise their visions like that.
I'm not remotely surprised. Most fans on Twitter care more about ~connected universes~ over any kind of artistry, regardless of what mantras they chant to feel righteous. They don't appreciate great standalone movies til they get them (which is rare these days). And even then, they generally don't see that being standalone is part of what makes them so great.

Me if that happens:

Like who cares about that...

I'd love to hear who the director of superman is ( that's as important to me as the cast ) and maybe some REALLY big names in the supporting roles, ie, Jonathan, perry, etc.

I'd also love to hear that a GL film is on the way and maybe a etrigan, Deadman, or booster gold film is coming as well.

To be fair the extent and manner in which she does it is annoying. As an LGBTIQ person I'm really sick of her talking about it and telling me what I need in terms of representation.
I mean she goes for a certain audience like the YouTubers who go for the red and blue states. It’s a market to make money. I can’t blame her. I just think she has issues with Gunn and that messes with her reports.

I don't really understand how The Batman qualifies as an "elseworlds". Not like Joker does (that movie created a radically new version of the character to make him more sympathetic, so it fits that label a lot more than a movie that is largely faithful to the comics, aside from the SE7EN filter being applied to it aesthetically).

On THAT I agree. Though I haven't had any desire to watch her videos for some time.

Which, you know, despite DC kind of being a chaotic mess is kind of one of the things that I've liked about DC Films and how it distinguishes itself from Marvel. Marvel's got the uniform, streamlined continuity thing down whereas DC was taking chances with standalone auteur driven projects like The Batman and Joker. You would never see those kind of projects over at Disney.

The Batman is a good movie, but its no more "auteur driven" than Batman Begins or The Dark Knight or the first Iron Man movie. Its Batman doing Batman things, with a lot of the traditional trappings of the character largely intact. Why do people keep talking about it like its this radically different take on the character?

Forgot to mention GLC is high on my list of priorities too. Hopefully not too long into the the new universe that they kick that off.
