DC Films The DC Studios News and Discussion Thread

That sounds... very limiting. It's almost as if you don't know any DC characters outside of the main ones. :o
I don't mind them putting like 20% of the focus on that, but for me, the majority of it should definitely go towards the heavy hitters. I'm adding Batman since The Batman isn't part of the DCU. They should then make a Batman that DOES work in the DCU, at some point.

It's not about copying the MCU for me either. Infact, I think that currently, the MCU is a boring, drawn out mess. I'm just excited about the potential of seeing those specific characters in the same universe (successfully this time) and them being the catalyst for wherever we go from there.

But yeah, it's an unpopular take.

You know, I know a lot of folks are really pulling for Robin to be in the Reeves trilogy but I’d honestly would not be surprised if Robin debuts in the DCU Batman and he never appears in the Reeves-Verse.

Your take isn’t all that unpopular. I’d imagine a lot of people feel the same way and sounds like Gunn’s priority will be the heavy hitters first mixed in with some focus on the more lesser known characters.

If Reeves ever touches the bat family in any capacity, I’d be happy with Dick and Babs. But at this point, I feel he’ll just focus on Bruce alone though. I don’t expect him to go crazy in that regard.

But this DCU stuff, you cannot hold back. If you’re doing two Batmen at the same time, you let reeves cook up his stuff and the other one needs to literally be the guy jumping off the comic book panels, completely unapologetically. I want just about all of them if they’re serious about this 10 year plan. Even Damien, that little pissant.

What would be cool is if in the shared DCU films we build up to Batman's eventual introduction. Like, we'll hear references to him and his activities in several movies but we never see him. Then once Reeves is done with his third film they introduce Bruce/Batman in a World's Finest or Trinity movie with Superman and /or Wonder Woman and by that point both of those characters will have had a couple of films/appearances down and are established.

I'd be ok with something like Grant Morrison's Batman & Robin. Dick Grayson takes the mantle because Bruce is MIA. Once Reeves is done with his stuff, DCU Bruce returns and we get Nightwing.

Prodigal Son, baby.

...give Dick his mullet or bust.

problem with skipping to Grayson as batman is you are skipping out on a lot of stories that frankly havent been adapted to live action well. Bruce taking in wards, it going wrong,Dick Grayson becoming his own man separate from the course he had. Titans, nightwing etc.

Like you could do a Lot with just batman and Robin. before having dick become Nightwing.Honestly animated or live action tv with good budget is best way to adapt serialised comics for most things imo but particularly something like the bat family. You just need to spend more time with those characters. Then you could have big event batman films while having shows to develop the characters in detail, and have more once off minor stories.

Tho yea it would be interesting to see a wisecracking batman. have it be more fantastical, league of assassins, secret organisations(court of owls).

Ideally tho it would be a young bruce to pair up with a young clark.

Really hoping they give Keaton his Batman Beyond film as a 'sorry' over the whole Batgirl nonsense.

Never liked the beyond universe as a mainline DC future thing tbh...Just doesnt work imo.Since the comics will never go beyond the current status quo. Honestly while it'd miss the point I suppose (and I reckon this is an unpopular opinion too)id prefer Terry being mentored by say an aged Damian i.e further down the timeline. Otherwise having Beyond work as an alternate future for a different universe works well too to me so yea Keaton mentoring a protege in a cyberpunk setting would be cool

Dick and Babs all the way. Maybe Jason Todd down the line.

Would also take someone like Huntress who is at odds with Bats.
I would love that exact setup. Dick and Babs early with Todd later on. Babs as Oracle after a ton of regular appearances maybe and Huntress too with some conflict out of the gate.

Unpopular opinion maybe but I hope they don't put too much focus on this thing where they try to make a bunch of D and E list characters into zany hits.

Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Flash, Aquaman and their respective worlds, then we'll talk.

I really don't care if you get Scorsese to write and direct an Arm-Falloff Boy movie.
Exact opposite. I would much rather interesting filmmakers take on lesser known characters than anything else, frankly a lot of them are way more interesting than most of the heavy hitters.

man long shot but having even or two other announcements for the creatives behind these projects would be neat. Best bet would one of the shows gunn was workeignon before getting the co-head of dc studios gig

I imagine some creatives were announced because those two directors chose today to go public on Insta. Seems too coincidental…
