DC Films The DC Studios News and Discussion Thread

Well, there's the reason there aren't that many good/succesful fantasy or action films. Almost no one actually knows how to make them.

I think the main problem is that it takes a certain type of person to be able to take a fantastical story concept and play it straight. Most creatives, at least in the film industry, want to either...

A) Lean heavily into comedy and satire
B) Make a deconstruction
C) Minimize the fantastic elements as much as possible
D) Treat it as a "roller coaster ride" where the only thing that matters is spectacle

Nah, that's not even the main problem. The main problem is that tackling those sort of films and making them good requires a particular type of technical skills that most of them lack.

Just got done watching the movie Carmen and I'm even more convinced Melissa Barrera can pull it off as WW.

I adore Mellisa Barrera, but... no thanks.
She should definitely get a chance in a CBM, but not in WW role.
I have a feeling , that whenever WW role will be recast, Mellisa wouldn't be qualified to audition.

I mean Gal wasnt exactly qualified and that seemed to work out ok...

I don't know anything about Melissa so I can't comment on her specifically but the entire purpose of getting a new Wonder Woman should exactly be to NOT get another Gal Gadot lmfao

Wait... there aren't that many good/succesful fantasy or action films????
For every John Wick there are like 20 pieces of forgettable dog**** that come out each year. There really aren't that many especially in recent years. And fantasy has just been straight up hopeless in that regard.

Ten is a arbitrary number, but I can think of a lot of good recent examples:

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves
The Green Knight
The Northman
Puss in Boots The Last Wish

and that's not counting all the tv stuff, like Game of Thrones, which is like one of the biggest franchises of all time lol.

I really don't think Gunn will put off rebooting Wonder Woman for too long. The character is iconic and doesn't have the cinematic baggage that say the Flash has now. I'd be willing to bet it'll be part of the Chapter 2 slate.

My guess is 2027 WW Solo film at the earliest , which really isn't that far in the future.

I know that 4 years seems like 40 years in internet- fandom time, but it's really the blink of an eye.

Uh, I'm not sure I would treat your clearly subjective opinion on her as fact that she won't audition or be considered for the part. How would she not be qualified?

I mean - Because of her age. She turned 33yo this year. Whenever this recast will take place she'll be too old to audition for WW. Maybe Hippolyta, but not Diana. Since the first WW's live action appearance on screen none of The actresses portraying WW were over 30(When they were first cast) and it's not going to change.

Do you guys think with the success of Barbie and the relationship Margo has with Gunn that she will be a producer in the DCU?
