The Election Night Thread - Part 2

Samantha Bee is going off.

srsly tho who is this lena dunham chick

Some nobody who befriended Judd Apatow, showed him her narcissistic student film Tiny Furniture and got an HBO series out of it, while fanning the SJW flames and 'cultural appropriation' P.C. nonsense (i.e. boycott your college cafeteria because they're not making authentic Japanese sushi).

I'm a Democrat and even I can't stand her.

Donald Trump Victory Means Hollywood Lost the Culture War, Fox News Star Says

this part did make me laugh:cwink:

The Trump Administration has the potential to undo a lot of the progress made by the culture wars. Especially Mike Pence.

Also the Alt-Right is a growing movement on the internet. Progressives don't have this on lockup as much as they think they do. That's kinda the same mindset that led us to Trump, btw.

Kind of going along with the alt right (which I honestly thought was just a dumb niche thing), do you think the riots of last year, and the ones going on in Philly and Oakland tonight, solidify Trump's supporter base?

@DJ: You're in line with Michael Moore. He explained their psychology - they know Trump's kind of a monster; they essentially threw him into Washington with the establishment and slammed the door on them. It makes sense, in a scarey kind of way.

Well this makes me feel better. :woot:

This whole election day-after is embarrassing on so many levels that I’m close to losing all hope for humanity. I know you guys can pull through this, you just have many things you have to learn.

1) Seriously cut it out with all of this “us versus them” crap. As a foreign orphan/adoptee who couldn’t ever see that due to being in the dead middle sociologically speaking (gay/straight, rich/poor,hispanic/white, etc.). I've been watching you guys like an alien my whole life in these regards – it’s tearing you apart. We’re all humans. Labels suffocate. Labels pit you against each other. Sorry to wake you up, Republicans and Democrats voted for Trump and Republicans and Democrats voted for Hillary. Yes, you’re both to blame or you’re both to celebrate what happened last night. Labels are just something you’ve always given yourself to make you feel “safe.” While ironically “us versus them” thinking is responsible for most of the atrocities since the beginning of mankind. Those who never believed in this “us versus them” mentality, especially in regards to politics, could have told you this “I am this” “I am this” “I am this” mentality was going to blow up in your faces years ago. I just never imagined it would be this soon and you’re throwing each other even closer to the boiling plate pointing fingers at everyone and grouping everyone together. Not all are. But, a lot. That's not just government, that's everything. You are one people. You are human. Start acting like it!

2) This whole notion of what it means to be a “good” American. “I don’t like Trump, so I’ll just sit back and do nothing and respect him because I’m a GOOD American.” I’m sorry – whaaat? As a foreigner, despite being here from birth I fell in love with America because of our founding fathers. The REAL good Americans who founded this country so that your voice could be heard. What happened to my parents’ generation (C Lee) and grandparents’ generation? They listened and then when they didn’t hear what they liked - they fought. We all learned about it. Now there’s fewer and fewer of us, tonight heaven hope it continues because this slap in the face may have been what we needed to wake up and stand up. Hopefully this activism will last. If you don’t like something, you act and you raise your voice – that’s what this country was designed for! That’s what’s beautiful about this country, so seeing a lot of people shrug that off is very… the founding fathers would be rolling in their graves. You like Trump, at least you acted. You don’t like Trump, you’re complaining and yet you say you’ll do nothing and accept him? If you had nothing to complain about, okay – but complaining and saying you’re going to do nothing about it but complain? It’s utterly baffling to me because in doing so you’re tarnishing one of the greatest things about this country - the freedom to stand up for what you believe in – while calling yourself a “good” American like that will give you a clean conscious. So many men, women, children, everyone died for that right – that it really is shameful that’s the way it’s become to some people. It was never meant for us to sit back and wait for checks and balances from within the Government – WE THE PEOPLE were meant to be those checks and balances. Not some people - US. And not just on election day either. Stop taking the right that all of these men and women died for, for granted.

In short, unite. You continue to fight one another? I guarantee you’ll only get weaker because of it. You start seeing beyond labels? You start acting instead of sitting silently on the sidelines? I guarantee you’ll feel all the better for it and the world will be a much better place too. More importantly, I know you all can do it. So stop pointing fingers at labels. What’s done is done. If you like it? Okay. If you don’t? Raise your voice – ACT. And stop this whole “us versus them” crap, it’s been destroying a lot for years. Haven't we learned anything this year from CIVIL WAR, BVS, and X-MEN: APOCALYPSE or did the importance of unity fly over people's heads?

I'm sick, I'm tired, I'm discouraged. I know if I don't take a break away from here and Facebook I'll snap and that means hard core self destruction since that's my way to go whenever this depressed. This day has just been a rude wake up call in a lot more ways than just Trump and bigotry.

It is when whites overwhelmingly vote for an unapologetic bigot.
2008:
43% whites and 95% of blacks voted for Obama.

Liberals - that's not racist

2016:
58% whites voted for Trump.

Liberals - RACISTS!

Also, 8% of blacks voted for Trump. What are they?

You know damn well that black people voting overwhelmingly for Democrats. Maybe it has something to do with Republicans voting against their interests and constantly kicking them when they're down. Kerry, perhaps the whitest man in this hemisphere, got what? 88% of the black vote?

You keep saying Republicans aren't racist. Why the hell do you think minorities vote so overwhelmingly against them?

Minorities just look at Republican and conservative website articles and their comment sections makes them never ever want to vote or associate with Republicans and conservatives. And Trump campaigned with their racism with a bullhorn attached to his mouth.

Why the jump in 2008 for Obama by black voters? 88% voted for Kerry in 2004. Explain the 7% jump.

There's a 15% swing in white votes between 2008 for Obama and 2016 for Trump in white votes. Yet loony liberals claim that all 58% of those whites are racist. Why? Because that is the liberal default. They scream RACIST and WHITE PRIVILEGE!

Also, please answer this.

Obviously black people were energized by seeing a black man run for office. If you want to call that "racism," knock your reactionary ass out.

But, I think you are - intentionally - missing the point. Obama didn't run on a campaign of fear and hate aimed at the white majority. Trump literally started his campaign by going on a screed about Mexicans and immigrants. And before that, he was the nation's leading birther, a racist myth which he only recently stopped using as a political prop.

What does it say about a person who votes for someone who champions such horrible views?

I'm reactionary when liberals are calling all Trump voters, racists?

One big thing I've now seen from the past 3 elections is that the candidate with the best social media game has come out with the win. Obama showcased how social media can galvanize a voter base while Trump used it to get extra attention and provide an alternative to mainstream media sources that people no longer fully trust.

the idea that all trump voters are racists is ridiculous on its face

Not all. Maybe most. Certainly many. People don't exactly say "yes, I am a racist."

But they do vote for people like Donald Trump, which gives us an indication. Ask them if Obama was a Muslim or born in Kenya, and you get better results. Half of Republicans believe that.

not all of them voted for trump qua trump

some voted just against hillary

a great deal of them are disenfranchised blue collar voters out of a job who don't feel the political elites care about them, and are desperate enough to overlook trump's flaws

the whole "all our political opponents are racist" canard is just a psychological ploy to make ourselves feel good on some moral high ground while we ignore the real reasons we lost

remember, exit polls showed even voters who said they highly disfavor trump still voted for him

that's how much of a s*** candidate the democratic party nominated

Oh no, they're not all racists. I will concede that many are probably just petty and shortsighted. Unless you're a callous millionaire or a Republican whose political career is over (Christie, Giuliani, Gingrich, etc) you have no good reason to vote for this narcissistic manchild.

I don't need a psychological ploy to be on the moral high ground when people vote for Donald ****ing Trump. I am not even saying I am standing on high ground. People threw themselves off the cliff when they voted for that psychopath.

It's a ****ing disgrace. I am ashamed to live in the same country as these people.
