Eternals The Eternals General Disscussion and Speculation thread

That all sounds up Jolie’s street. :funny: She can bring the crazy. She has the edge.

Definitely. That’ll be an interesting character for sure. I like the thought of Jolie playing her - if the role is substantial. Though I saw an IMDB fancast of the Mortal Engines actress Jihae in the role, and I also love that idea: Jihae is an incredible actress, and should get more roles.

A name to get some more butts in the seats, for sure!
There will be a fair number of people who are undecided who will take the plunge when they see Angelina involved (if she joins that is).

Is she? I haven’t seen Mortal Engines yet. It kind of came out without me even knowing it was out. I didn’t see a single piece of marketing for it.

"In talks" is usually just a formality. I'm sure she'll be in it.

Yeah, getting someone like Jolie takes the Eternals from a 2nd tier Marvel movie to front page news.
Yeah, exactly.

I know. It actually wasn’t as awful a movie as critics made it out to be: the plot was average, but Jihae delivered a standout performance. She’s also in the National Geographic show about Mars.

Cool. I’ll definitely check those out.

In that case I’m seriously excited. The fact that she hasn’t been seen on screens much in the last few years makes her participating in something out there like this even more intriguing.

If Jolie is playing Sersei, do you have to get somebody around her age for Ikarus, or is there room for somebody younger? Always wanted Bradley Cooper to play a live action MCU character.

Doesn’t Feige have a rule that no actor is allowed to play more than one character in the MCU? He made an exception for Paul Bettany apparently, but no one else. Though that could change, I suppose.

Well they were all set to give Blackbolt to Vin Diesel in their originally planned Inhumans movie, at least that's what the chatter was.

I wanted Skarsgard for Ikaris and he's a year younger than Jolie, but I don't think she's Sersei.

Every so often "talks fall apart" but usually "in talks" means they've joined.

Another interesting bit and our first real set of info about this from the THR article is

sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that one aspect to the story involves the love story between Ikaris, a man fueled by cosmic energy, and Sersi, who relishes moving amongst humans. It is unclear who Jolie will play.

That quote from the Hollywood Reporter would also confirm that Ikaris will not be the gay male character, if it’s true.

Yeah which kinda disappoints me a little.

Who are the other important male Eternals characters that could appear in this?

Why should it disappoint you? Ikarus was never gay in the comics in the first place. That's like people being disappointed that Iron Fist wasn't Asian and then people accusing Marvel of whitewashing him.

Well Marvel already gender bended/race bended some characters for the MCU, so changing someone's sexuality is something I expect that they would do next especially there was a report that they may finally feature a gay character in a lead role. I wouldn't expect anyone but Ikaris, the one face I always see in the internet when it comes to the Eternals. But then again Idk anything about the Eternals.

I’m expecting it to be Hercules, and I hope I’m correct in that assumption.

Is it just me or do the Eternals sounds so similar to the Inhumans just without the terrigen and a royal family?

They are almost immortal, that takes a toll, personality and relationship wise, totally different kind of conflicts and stories.

To me just the concept of the Eternals coming from the Celestials and Inhumans coming from the ancient kree is just so similar and their identity is somewhat a secret to the humans just like the Inhumans. It will be interesting to see how Marvel introduces them, because judging from their content in the comics, they sound like a less interesting/more obscure version of the Inhumans.

I understand your outlook, but the Inhumans are a culture/race, while the Eternals are godlike beings.
I see them a lot more similar to Asgardians, but with a more reluctant "gods" slant.

I've always found them a bit similar, just different origins and motivations, and of course powers. But they still feel sometimes like you could've done a "replace all" in Word and some of it would be pretty much the same.

But I found the Inhumans were a bit more interesting. Of course, how they're done in live action depends on the director's vision. Scott Buck wasn't quite the visionary Feige is.

The Inhumans were really hyped by the comics to be the next big thing and people were talking how they were replacing the mutants. And suddenly, they were demoted to TV and now they are in limbo once again. Such a waste. But I guess for the Inhumans they at least got some real attention (at one point) that they normally wouldn't get.

This Eternals movie feels sudden to me which makes it more interesting because it probably have something to do with Marvel's long term plans. But the similarities with the Inhumans made me think of what if Marvel just moved on with the Inhumans. Celestials are more interesting than Inhumans' creators, but the characters of the Inhumans just seem more interesting at least on paper. Maybe I need to read the Eternals but the Eternals comics aren't well received from the reviews I've seen, and Marvel Comics have yet to announce an upcoming Eternals comics. Shouldn't the comics start promoting them now especially they have a movie in store for next year.
