I obviously can't say for sure but I get a hunch these people talking about Hercules being in this are garbling what they are hearing.

Just me but I bet they are mistaking the bit about Gilgamesh, The Forgotten one who was mistaken for Hercules in the comics as being Herc proper.

There’s a character description for a “Greek God” male lead who is separate from the Forgotten One - who is also on the list - and MCU Cosmic reported today that Hercules could be the male lead. That would fit with the rumors that the male lead would be gay. Seems probable to me.

Where is the breakdown from? A reliable source? Not that I'm particular. Sure... I prefer the Olympians being separate from the Eternals, that's just my druthers. But I get meshing them together.

That Hashtag Show has been pretty reliable of late. They said Florence Pugh was being considered for a role in Black Widow and I know they've gotten a ton of casting breakdowns before

From what I've seen, 'THE ETERNALS' is going to be an ensemble. It has quite a few "leads", so I don't know that we can think of Jolie as "the lead." Maybe we can, but I think there are about 5-6 "lead" female roles in that film, including one I never revealed.

The way breakdowns TYPICALLY work is that the characters are listed in order of importance.
For 'THE ETERNALS', the order goes:
Piper
Untitled Diverse Female *Karen
Male Lead "James" (the gay character) *Hercules

Jolie is none of those characters.

also they casted piper and karen first separately. possibly for cameo,credit scene appearance in other movie, endgame?. and another rumor is that piper is.. millie bobby brown becasue she visited infinity war set back in 2017.

Really hope hercules is in this. Always loved him. Openly gay would sort of suit him. As long as they don't make him too camp.

Me too! The real question now is who will be his love interest, assuming he has one? And I suppose (what with countries like China, Russia, etc), that it's possible he won't have a love interest, but I feel somehow that Marvel is big enough and bold enough to make the move. Disney will be featuring their first openly gay character in Jungle Cruise next year too. So what do you all think? Love interest, or no love interest?

Bit of flirting but nothing explicit would be my guess.

Awesome if this news is true. Don’t know much about Marvel’s Hercules but the Greek mythology hero Heracles had a ton of male lovers, so it works.

My only gripe though is we shouldn’t erase bi characters just so we can see gay characters. I guarantee there’s going to be a ton of controversy if we do that.

But honestly I just love Herc, I can’t wait to see him. He’s a great part of the MCU

Understandable, but isn’t it a bit early for that conversation? The MCU hasn’t had anyone whose not straight yet, so having anyone (gay, bi, whatever) is a step forward in my opinion.

They managed to show Bohemian Rhasopdy lately in China with some cuts here and there so it can be done too. Thing is many local viewers already know about the original and some aren’t too thrilled about the edit which trancated the story being told.

OT but... The kowtowing to China on cultural issues when it comes to the arts, specifically film and television is going to become a bigger and bigger problem as time goes on. They aren't changing politically anytime soon and their market is so big that the corporations will bend over backwards for them without a single regard to questions of content or artistic integrity.

I don’t know, I don’t think it’s a good idea to help one minority over another. I mean bi erasure is pretty serious and frustrating for bi people. I would be frustrated if they changed, like, a gay character into a black character and said “see we still have diversity!”

Well, I am bi, and I’m still holding out hope that Valkyrie someday comes out officially. That would make me happy!

I feel like, all too often, screenwriters don't know how to handle bi characters and often write them as either predominantly gay or predominantly straight. And while there's plenty of leaning more one way or the other in the bi community (for example, I've mostly dated women), a lot of movies don't seem able to grasp the concept that there are plenty of bi people who like both sexes (and non-binary people) equally. Anyway, in this case, since it sounds like this version of Hercules was only bi in an alternate timeline version (and he hooked up with Wolverine - and you KNOW Marvel isn't going to make him bi or gay), I think Marvel can do what they want here and make the character 100% gay if that's what they choose to do.

Yeah... it’s strange. Hopefully they handle that aspect with care. Makes me wish they’d change one of the Eternals to be gay. (Ikaris, Makkari or whoever)

I definitely see that as being a potential issue. It could always be a communication problem, since all we have now are rumors. Given the issues the media has with "getting" bi-characters, it could be Herc is still bi, but through the grapevine that got warped into "first openly gay hero".

As a side note, Herc is definitely bi in the 616 universe, too...

I see; sorry about that. I was doing a little research on the character but I missed that he was bi in the 616 universe. Also yeah, you may be right... they might be making him bi in the movie and the media got it wrong (as they so often do with queer characters).
