The Expendables 3 - Part 1

I went to see it yesterday and it's probably my favourite one despite it's lower rating. Wesley Snipes taking the p*** out of himself I burst out laughing.

in the cargo plane Statham's character says to Snipe's "What you get locked up for"?

Snipes: Tax evasions

:funny:

Just came from seeing it. I liked it alot but didnt love it like the second one. I do think its better than the first one. I thought the "new crew" was perfectly fine, dont get why theyre getting so much hate. Snipes was great, Banderas was hilarious, Arnie was great, some good action scenes. Very solid flick in my opinion. #2 was better though.

Yeah, caught this last night also. This is the movie the first two shoulda been. Snipes had me rolling, dude.

Even though the reviews I've seen have been bad, I am still planning to see this movie. Even if it's stupid, it's my kind of stupid.

You'll enjoy it, man. It's a fun movie. I just don't think it's better than #2.

I thought this was a decent film. It's better than #2, but not as good as #1.

Wesley Snipes was one of best things for me.

Still I think Stallone bringing in the young guns was bad idea.

Even though I think Mel gibson Is kind of ass In real life he does well as villain.

Plus having Harrison Ford doesn't hurt eather.

From what I heard I think I might save my 8.75 and wait for this to hit redbox, or Netflix. I saw the first two Expendables in theaters and thought they were flawed but decent action movies I gave them like 7/10 and 7.5/10 . I even own both movies on blu ray. But honestly these movies feel like straight to DVD movies and the ONLY reason they are hitting the big screen is because of all the big names. My friend says the action is even more watered down than the second movie and the final fight with Gibson is a massive JOKE. With the reviews and word of mouth I think it's time for Sly to call the quits on these Expendable movies.

Also did they even explain what happened to Mickey's character from the first movie in either sequel movie??! I can't remember as pretty much have forgotten about the plot and events in the previous two movies.

I'm REALLY hoping theres an unrated directors cut coming. I feel like the PG-13 rating hampered it a bit. It wouldve been a stronger film had it been R.

Wow, what a sad end for the franchise. It's almost ironic that the whole point of the PG-13 rating was to rake in more money and it ended up hurting it instead of helping it. I think we've seen the last of this franchise unfortunately and its sad because Sly has said he wants to do more.

It has nothing to do with the rating, get over it people. The movie was leaked before it even came out. Heck the majority of posters here chose to download it instead of paying to go see it. Then everyone is surprised that it's bombing. I feel really bad for sly and co, would have loved to see it do much better and see what numbers it could have gotten without the stupid leak.

Are you seriously blaming the audience for the terrible numbers?

It's a parody of a movie. Cheesy one liners and horrible acting, apart from Mel Gibson who appears to be in another movie altogether. No surprises or twists and a lot of mediocre CGI.

Yea it's a bad movie. It's supposed to be an 80s style exploitation action movie. But it's had it's balls chopped off.

People say ratings don't matter. Well i ask this... would Commando or Predator or Rambo or Lethal Weapon be the same films if they were neutered? Hell no.

The problem with Sly's idea of making it PG-13 to bring in new fans is... current generations of movie goers aren't really impressed by the type of action older generations were. But neutering this film Sly has alienated the people who do actually give a **** about these kinds of movies. Those people are me and you, people who grew up with ultra violent and over the top 80s action movies.

So what has happened here is simple. Making it PG-13 has alienated the people who want to see old school 80s action with ridiculous blood squibs and brutal kills. And this kinda action just doesn't impress younger generations who have grown up with Michael Bay movies and superheroes.

Exactly Endless. And, again, I actually liked the movie but I didnt love it and i think it was because it did feel neutured by the softer rating. This wouldve been awesome as an R rated flick. Think about Terry Crewes' "Remember this **** at Christmas!!" Scene from the first one, would that have been as awesome if it was a PG-13 movie?

The lack of blood/gore/effects did hamper the movie, but in my opinion the worst part about the Expendables movies is that they're not nearly as fun and entertaining as they should be. The second movie comes closest, but still I feel they should be more fun. More scenes like the shootout where Bruce Willis tells Arnold that "he will be back" and Arnold responds with "Yippie Ki-Yay". That's great stuff. E3 had a few funny moments, and I loved how Wesley Snipes made a jab at the tax evasion situation. Antonio Banderas was the shining star out of the new actors, and there was too little of Arnold IMO.

Think it''s time to cut their losses and pack this franchise up. I guess we'll see how the overseas numbers are

I feel like the series never hit its stride.

While it's cool to have all the 80's action stars in one franchise, the films didn't have memorable action scenes. In fact, the action is probably no better than a direct-to-DVD movie, and that might be an insult to some of the movies in that particular market!

That's true honestly. Netflix is full of them. Undisputed 2 and 3, Ninja: Shadow of a tear to name a couple. Heck, why pay to see this when i can watch The Raid and The Raid 2 on bluray. It's a shame.

Essentially, the Expendables is like a direct to DVD series that managed to get some big stars. And again, that might be an insult to *some* direct to DVD movies.

I will say one thing, for some reason the final fights seem to always be disappointing. Stallone vs JCVD in EX2 and Stallone vs Gibson in EX3 should have both been EPIC. It's not every day you see legends like that go toe-to-toe and they dropped the ball both times. I'm wondering if its a fault of the director or just the fact that the aging actors just don't have it in them anymore to physically perform epic fight scenes.

To be fair though, in EX3 there was a reasonable excuse because there literally wasn't enough time for Sly to have a long drawn out battle with Gibson, but I feel like the writers and the director could have found a way to make it much more satisfying.
