I guess he thinks that he needs to publicly throw FOX under the bus before FOX does the same to him.

I think both parties are to blame, but yeah ultimately he is thinking let me throw them under the bus before they do the same to me.

In his defense though, this movie is a bomb and Fox should have just let him do his thing and just see what you got. It would have probably been a borefest but it's Trank's vision. Fox has made matters worse by mixing their vision with Trank's and it looks bad now.

I thought this was going to be a mixed movie. 40s to 50s in RT. To be debated ad nauseam between haters and supporters, something akin to TASM2 or MOS. To be perfectly honest, I didn't foresee these types of reviews. And a director having a hissy fit. It's more pathetic than sad.

Fox is wholly to blame.

A director presented you with an admittedly left-field take on how to adapt this property. You liked it well enough to hire him and greenlight it. And after months of unrelenting fan backlash, you panic and basically reshoot half of the movie into something that all but undoes the director's original intent in the worst way possible.

Trank comes across wrong on social media, but I'm not blaming the guy for taking a job that was offered to him. Same with the cast.

Fox had "faith" in this vision, until they didn't. The rest is history.

I suspect he had a crappy film that went nowhere and Fox made a bunch of changes that made into a disjointed crappy film that went nowhere.

Fox is cheap. They wouldn't spend the kind of money they did trying to fix it if they had anything close to a good film.

You're not wrong, but I honestly don't think people are going to see this. I really think this will maybe hit $40 million OW and have no legs to speak of. Anyone remotely interested in it knows that it sucks, and if they don't, they'll find out sometime soon when they hear how bad it is.

Call me paranoid but you need to see the big picture. It's like the guy who litters on the sidewalk because it's just one wrapper. If everyone felt this way that could potentially translate into significant box office receipts. Fox has been so petty and dishonest through this whole process - they will try and spin the smallest win this weekend into some kind of success. It doesn't make sense to spend months essentially protesting something to only fold at the most crucial moment.

I mean - it's a free country. You can do what you want. But for God's sake man, why not just wait till Monday or use your free ticket on another movie?

This.

I thought we'd have to wait a few more days before the finger pointing and buck passing began.

Fox greenlit Trank's vision. He got to make The Thing a dickless government weapon, cast his good friend Michael B as Johnny Storm, got to have the movie lit and shot like no one paid their electric bill, and turn Dr. Doom into an anti-government blogger who gets turned into a walking green lava caked crash test dummy. What more did he want Fox to let him do with a property and characters that he doesn't own? He ran his mouth about all his choices and decisions before the movie got released and now that it's released and getting panned he wants to pull the "big studio kicked me out of the editing room" card. How pathetic.

It's plenty sad. We've probably just watched this guy toilet what remained of his career (assuming that's a legit account)

It's verified. The moron once tweeted a picture of himself holding a sign with the date to prove the 4chan leak was a faker.

That is his verified account....God know what he was thinking, but it's out there now.

And yet Kinberg will somehow, inexplicably walk away from this unscathed.

He tweeted it on purpose and probably knew he'd delete it shortly after. It's not like Fox can fire him...

For now. I could see Disney... rethinking... Kinberg's Star Wars involvement if he tries to stick with Fant4stic 2...

We can go back and forth for days on who to blame...and we probably will :D .

He's done other good work is why he'll likely get out of this fine. Plus, considering Trank being off Star Wars, I doubt he's in his friend's corner anymore. At least not to his bosses.

Trank's original vision for the movie sounded just as terrible as the final film. Where you guys really interested in seeing Blogger Doom?
