For now. I could see Disney... rethinking... Kinberg's Star Wars involvement if he tries to stick with Fant4stic 2...

If I'm a Lucasfilm higher-up I wouldn't let Simon Kinberg anywhere near Star Wars. This kind of stink does not wash off.

Fox should want to rid themselves of this property they've intentionally destroyed.

He's probably right. Or well mostly right. No telling if it would've been well received but this movie's obviously a studio butcher job. The obvious reshoots are evidence enough that Fox came in at the eleventh hour and changed stuff.

****in' awful.

I understand why they do that--to make the movie more "accessible". But then you have stuff like THIS happen and you just have a giant **** on your hands. Like a REALLY big ****. Good review scores at least help you. "Accessible" or not, no one is gonna see this.

Wow. I figured there would be a meltdown at some point, but not even before Thursday previews were finished.

Sounds like Trank made a stupid boring film with no action an Fox turned it into a stupid boring film with action that feels disjointed.

No way Josh "My Vision is Genius Perfection" Trank made something good and then Fox just decided to spend money on reshoots willy nilly. They wouldn't even spend money on known actors for Pete's sake.

Airing the dirty laundry on opening weekend is ****ed up and unprofessional I believe.

Kinberg is going to distance himself hard from this. He already threw Trank under the bus to Disney if those leaked Sony emails are anything to go by, let alone that Hollywood Reporter article.

What did the emails say?

Why are you assuming that Trank's original cut was any better? It might be even more horrible.

That said, I'd pay 50 euros for a 3-hour documentary about FF production problems. It would be great. Even a crappy documentary about it would be at the very least amusing.

Because he had a quality film under his belt before tackling this one. And because studio tampering never works out.

I imagine Trank's version probably had more character development and more scenes establishing the main cast. Now, I guess it just depends if you think what some critics believe worked well you wanted to see more of and could've worked if Trank was given full creative control.

My theater has a showing in about an hour...Maybe I'll go for a nice birthday laugh.

It's not hard to be better than the chopped up, somewhat incoherent, mess that we do have. I mean, Chronicle wasn't a happy accident, Trank has SOME idea of what a movie is. And all the reviews I've seen point somewhere completely else here.

But you're right--it could've been worse...I guess? I mean it could've been anywhere from a 1 to an 8 on RT :oldrazz:
