I'd love to know why the people who run these shows think "the blur," "the hood," and "the streak" are a good idea

Well they're gonna start using "The Flash" next episode so that complaint's gonna be resolved rather quickly.

I find "the streak" to be at least better than "the hood". At least all you can see when Flash runs around, is a streak. But I hate that they called Ollie "the hood". As if that's his most noteworthy feature. There's a vigilante running around, using a bow and arrow, and the best they could up with is "the hood"?

I think it's easy for us to judge the nicknames of Hood, Streak, Blur, Vigilante, because we know these characters and know their proper names, so it's silly if they're called something else. They're depicting a universe where superheroes and DC Comics don't exist. If Green Arrow and The Flash existed in the real world, we would have no freaking idea what to call them. The Red Runner? The Hooded Archer? These are sillier than what The CW is giving us.

Stop removing the cowl!

That's just a practicality issue. It's a lot easier to convey emotion when your actor is not wearing a mask. That's the reason why most of the emotional scenes in the Captain America movies involved Steve without his trademark helmet. Or why Spider-Man is always conspicuously unmasked (or wearing a damaged mask showing his eyes and mouth) in the climax scenes of his movies.

I really don't think this show could be any better. I'm absolutely flabbergasted by it. That scene with Flash on the roof with Iris, and the voice changing, and just the directing/camera angles and where they're standing, it's as good as it gets from a technical standpoint. I seriously don't see the point in WB making a feature film of The Flash. This show is really giving that notion a run for its money. The only real improvement would be the budget and bigger explosions. That's not what makes a better story.

I'm beginning to think that television is the perfect/preferred medium for telling superhero stories. You just have a lot more time and more to explore... It's truly the live action version of a comic book. New adventures, new stories, endless content, every week. You can't get that with film. With film, you get a Batman trilogy and then it's over, and you waited 3 or 4 years for each one. Then you have to reboot it and start all over again with a new story. And the trilogy never explored Riddler, Penguin, Mr. Freeze, and so on. You can't sign Christian Bale or Robert Downey Jr. to a 12-movie contract... they'll want out, and poof, the story's over.

Freakin' Arrow and Flash are providing us with dozens and dozens of hours of content, and it's all coherently linked as one thing. In five episodes, we've seen Reverse Flash, Gorilla Grodd, Captain Cold, Multiplex, The Mist, Plastique, and the Weather Wizard... What other medium besides comics and cartoons can you see that much so quickly?

Technically Ollie went in action with the hood before he used the bow and arrow...

Flash/Arrow crossover press release part 1

THE FLASH
“Flash vs. Arrow” — (8:00-9:00 p.m. ET) (TV-PG, V) (HDTV)

PART ONE OF THE EPIC CROSSOVER EVENT WITH THE FLASH AND ARROW — Barry (Grant Gustin) is thrilled when Oliver (guest star Stephen Amell), Felicity (guest star Emily Bett Rickards) and Diggle (guest star David Ramsey) come to Central City to investigate a case involving a deadly boomerang. Excited about teaming up with his friend, Barry asks Oliver if he’d like to help him stop Ray Bivolo (guest star Patrick Sabongui), the meta-human Barry is currently tracking. Bivolo causes people to lose control of their emotions and has been using that skill to rob banks. Unfortunately, the superhero partnership doesn’t go as smoothly as Barry expected. When Oliver tells Barry he still has a lot to learn, Barry sets out to prove him wrong by attempting to stop Bivolo alone. However, when Bivolo infects Barry and sets him on a rage rampage, everyone is in danger, and the only one who can stop him is the Arrow. Meanwhile, Iris (Candice Patton) is furious when Eddie (Rick Cosnett) tries to get a task force to stop The Flash, Joe and Dr. Wells (Tom Cavanagh) agree the Arrow is a bad influence on Barry, and Caitlin and Cisco deal with a new team in S.T.A.R. Labs. Glen Winter directed the episode with story by Greg Berlanti & Andrew Kreisberg and teleplay by Ben Sokolowski & Brooke Eikmeier (#107). Original airdate 12/2/2014.

You will when you see the movie. As great as this show is live action Flash could be even more on the big screen.

You just see a bigger budget but that bigger budget accommodates high concept stuff that you just can't really/or fully explore on a TV budget like Gorilla City or the Mirror World.

Why would Patrick Sabongui be playing a metahuman when he already has a recurring role as David Singh, Joe and Eddie's boss at the CCPD? Something doesn't make sense here.

Gotta admit, I do feel bad for Barry when it comes to his love life.lol It seems like whenever he's interested in someone (Iris or Felicity), some tall blonde handsome dude comes in and inadvertently screws him over (Eddie/Oliver).lol

"The Hood" is quite possibly a Robin Hood reference, given his use of a bow and arrow. Its not necessarily just a reference to the hood he wears.

This show is generally solid, but its "moments" (running on water, etc) are fantastic. They take a lot of joy in presenting them without watering them down, and that's really refreshing.

""Who's to say that Constantine won't show up in Central City? Gotham is a bit of trouble because it occurs, who knows when I haven't seen it, but I think its a great idea to crossover and they should."

the quote from amell

Have to say after the first episode I was a bit weary on the much lighter tone they were going for but I have to say this is I the show I most look forward to seeing more than Arrow and Constantine and Gotham (Although that show seems to get better with every passing episode)

Loved this episode, though it would have been nice to have Barry reminisce a bit on his new found powers, like after he ran up the side of the building. I liked all the character dynamics this episode, loved Joes reaction to his voice change. I do see a bit of smallville creeping in with the blur/the streak thing but overall i hope the flash can keeps its momentum going as right now, it's hitting all the right strides.

Oh I know the reasoning, but I loathe it just the same. Particularly when the mask and or cowl reveals the eyes and most the face, how much more emotion do ears add? Besides plenty of time for the actor to emote when he's out of costume.

It probably gets sweaty under the mask. I'd take it off every time I stopped running, too.

Funny thing is, that mask is open enough that he doesn't really need to be constantly removing it to show emotion. Doesn't bother me though.

I'd dig a Constantine crossover but I fear that show is not long for this world. I hope CW or Amazon or something swoops in and saves it after NBC cancels it.

I'm glad there won't be a Gotham crossover; I can barely sit through a whole episode of that show. Easily the worst of the four DC shows right now.

http://comicbook.com/2014/11/14/the-flash-who-played-gorilla-grodd-/

It seems either that, or there was somebody doing the voices for his snorts and grunts...and that someone is a stuntman and actor who has worked on projects like Arrow, Smallville, Rise of the Planet of the Apes and Blade: Trinity.
Following the episode airing this week, here's the tweet The Flash pilot's stunt coordinator Jon Kralt tweeted out:

Simon Burnett, the actor he indicated as Grodd, retweeted that as well as a number of other Grodd-related items (including our story indicating that the character would appear that night, written following a tweet from showrunner Andrew Kreisberg).

Leave it to fans on message boards like this to find the most ridiculous stuff to complain about, like how he removes the mask sometimes. Is it that big a deal? Yikes.

So does Roy G. Bivolo introduce the possibility of harnessing the power of R.O.Y.G.B.I.V concept?
Which will set up for the intro of the G. Lantern?
