Yup, Garrick's Wharf.

Ha!

He is a time traveler. It might be on his Google Calendar.

8:30:14, Main Lab - Dr. Snow asks Barry to confirm Girder's metahuman nature.
*Giddy* "Oh, I've got a good one for that one."

lol; well even if he ends up being a time traveler, the fact that he's in this timeline alters any data by a large margin, especially with him now being so involved with Barry's activities and even changing things himself.

The problem with this show, it isn't terrible, but it's in some ways similar to Smallville, you know, their building him up to becoming the Flash. No one, not many have seen him in full appearance. Now besides the visual effects, which are unfortunately cheap and like Smallville (slightly better though, but only)

But the biggest problem for me has been the short action sequences and the drama and the lame characters.

We see more Barry than we do The Flash. He takes his mask off in almost every fight or sequence he's in as The Flash. This has been a fad since the Tobey MaGuire Spider-Man movies and Ghost Rider...you didn't see the image of Ghost Rider on the poster, they wanted to unmask him so they could sell tickets by showing us the alter ego, Johnny Blaze aka Nicholas Cage because he's a star. You can't see his face or know he's playing the character if they don't unmask the flaming skull face. I loathe this eternally.

In Spider-Man 2...you see Tobey MaGuire's face through-out the entire movie. I can barely remember seeing him masked as Spider-Man for more than a few minutes. Other scenes were fast CGI motions in fighting sequences where he's masked. It was a real nuisance.

You don't need to worry about Batman though, because he's been popular for decades. Luckily, Superman doesn't wear a mask, but then in the TV series, "Smallville", Green Arrow took off his goggles and hood in every scene...Jesus.

Iron Man, Captain America, as well as in the Avengers movies...they're worried they won't see the big star's faces, so make sure they know that Robert Downey Jr is still playing Tony Stark/Iron Man and Evans is still Captain America.

I was quite happy though that the posters for Captain America 2 had two versions, one with face and one with the mask.

American movie and television marketers are only reliant on what they think the audience wants. They are so stupid.

In The Flash, like all other tv show shows and movies about superheroes, this show was influenced. He's got to take his mask off every second. There was no real reason he needed to take it off during the first fight sequence he had battling that guy who could control weather, after he wore the guy out of the tornado, "I'm not like you, you're a murderer."

He's got his mask off. He can breathe through that mask. So that's one compliant.

The stupid triangle with Iris, Barry and...I don't even remember the police guy's name...Iris's father's partner.

I like Iris's father, and Iris is...well, you got to have her for the sake of the show. But that guy and Cisco and the other scientist girl. I don't hate them but I think they're pretty lame especially Cisco who is kind of a nerd. Coming up with the names and stuff.

The drama, love triangle soap opera stuff, I don't like. I kind of hate it, while "hate" is a strong word, I can't put it any further how much I hate the useless love triangle and drama. In the 3rd episode we have those flashbacks about the other characters which does not have much relation to the main character himself. Just for the sake of drama. And it's because this show what should be about a great superhero is on "The CW" channel network and God these show organizers are so stupid, why can't they get the picture by now?

Now, the character development for Barry Allen, while Gustin seems like a fairly good choice, his character, why does he have to be a nerd like...Spider-Man? Isn't the Flash generally supposed to be a loudmouth, arrogant, child-like, slightly spoiled, flirty with girls?

Or...was that just Wally West...or the Justice League animated series's take on the character? Someone fill me in.

Because that's one of the main reasons why I've liked this character, is his humor. His personality. Not like the typical superheroes where their personality is so straight.

Otherwise he's just too much of a normal guy, a scientist who can super-speed. He needs to be more funny and charming if you will like he was in the JL cartoons. The fact that he was the funny one made him interesting and a character everyone liked. I don't want him to be straight.

So the budget, maskless Flash, the characters and drama have been my problems for the show. One thing I am liking so far is Dr. Well's character, I hope he brings something big to the show towards the end of this season.

Looking forward to the Arrow and Flash crossover and Gorilla Grodd...if that can ever work, and Reverse-Flash.

Even though Barry is still technically a rookie when compared to Oliver, I just hope that we don't end up seeing Oliver schooling Barry big time during the 2 part crossover. Personally, I would prefer seeing scenarios where we see them both having a moment where they end up saving each other from certain death during the two parter.

I think that may be exactly what we see.
I mean, Barry has this incredible power that I think they said he'd be a little cocky with Oliver when they butt heads so it would make sense for Oliver to humble Barry a little later.

It's not like we don't know that Barry is super powerful. But his lack of experience is where Oliver will "beat" him.

One "impossible" per episode should be the limit, seriously.

Just came here to say that this show is awesome

When Iris mentioned sightings of a guy who was on fire but wouldn't go out, or something like that, it's implying Firestorm, right?

The chin piece of his mask is a bigger mystery than Wells and the yellow blur.

Imagine if his costume came out of a ring...now that would be ridiculous and unbelievable...

You asked someone to fill you in, I choose to. Barry Allen is very different from Wally West, Barry has always been more of an everyman, not unlike Peter Parker, and a science geek, not unlike Peter Parker. So those are the kinds of storylines he has, and people who like Barry in the comics like him for similar reasons. Wally West, who was originaly Barry's sidekick, was the immature spastic one who retained his teenager personalty as an adult on the JL cartoons, but even in the comics he eventually grew up. Even still, there are plenty of people who like Wally West Flash but don't like Barry Allen and vice versa, because they're two different characters.

Now I understand that you may not be interested in the characters' personal non-superhero lives and all the emotional drama that naturally comes with being a person, things that cartoons rarely get into, but keep in mind many people do. The reason this show ended up on CW in the first place was because the mix of fantasy and drama has proven to be so successful in the past, not just with Arrow but as far back as Supernatural and Vampire Diaries. People like this stuff, myself included. In fact, some people don't care about action unless there's drama behind it. So many in fact that writers and storytellers of all types are taught that for a story to 'work' the 'stakes' have to 'mean something' to the 'characters' and thus to the 'audience.' That's what Flash does, and that's why millions and millions of people who would never pick up a Flash comic book or watch a Flash cartoon series tune in every week. On the flip side, plenty of people who grew up reading comics that do involve lots of love triangles (Peter Gwen and Mary Jane, for instance) and lots of soap opera drama (Basically, the bulk of the X-Men history), enjoy seeing that in live action just as much, so long as there are super powers around that get used regularly. So it's a win-win for anyone who wants to do a superhero show to have lots of personal drama, you don't lose many comics fans and you get lots of non-comics fans.

Is it unfortunate that drama generally requires facial expressions, which goes against the idea of a mask? Yeah, but that's just the price of adapting something that communicates thoughts with narrative boxes into something that communicates thoughts using facial expressions.

That's definitely not Barry. Or Wally. Basically the Justice League cartoon took Wally's name and appearance, Barry's origin and importance, and Bart's personality + 10 years and melded them into one being.

Barry's not like Spider-Man. Spider-Man's like Barry.

Thaaaat's a great point. I think there's more shades of Spider-Man than sual here, but Barry did have the everyman geek schtick first, that's true.

One "impossible" per episode should be the limit, seriously.

You really want to tempt fate by making "impossible" impossible?

When Iris mentioned sightings of a guy who was on fire but wouldn't go out, or something like that, it's implying Firestorm, right?

More likely to be Heat Wave who received his weapon at the end of episode 4, rather than Firestorm, who is not entirely on fire.

Firestorm is partially on fire. His hands and head at least.

Heatwave is never on fire.

"I wouldn’t say teased," The Flash executive producer Greg Berlanti told TV Line in a recent interview when asked about Gorilla Grodd's recent appearance in The CW series and whether they're just teasing us with an appearance rather than planning anything definite. "I would say we’re going to deal with it this year. The comparison I make is a little bit to Slade the first year on Arrow in the sense of we started with the mask in the pilot and then we saw which way we were going. He was, ultimately, in the back half of that first season even more than we would ever do with Grodd this first year because… We’re going to have to get the technology right and all the stuff right to make it look and feel real. But a lot of times, we do this stuff not as a tease as much as a challenge to ourselves of, “Can we do it?” Grodd’s definitely one of those, so we hope we pull it off." Talking of teasers, he was then asked about whether or not we'll see any additional powers from Barry as he continues to hone his skills. "Definitely. We’re holding back on some big ones still. He famously can phase through things. We haven’t seen him do that yet."

One big question from fans is when we might see The Flash get a new suit which is a little closer to the version seen in the comic books, and it appears as if some changes are indeed on the way. "We’ll keep evolving it and tweaking it as we go. I think people are waiting to see when it’s going to be a white emblem versus a red." Of course, time travel is an element which has also been hinted at numerous time now, and with Reverse-Flash coming to the show in the midseason finale, it appears as if that will be directly addressed in that episode. "That is the one that we deal with directly in the winter. We, obviously, hint at it from the pilot episode. That is a big — “theme” is the wrong word for it — but that is a big part of the DNA of who The Flash was, so we do deal with that." Finally, with the big crossover between Arrow and The Flash just weeks away, the site quizzed Berlanti on whether there are already plans in the works for another next year in the latter half of the season. "We just started talking about that. It’s so much fun to do. They’re so hard to do. But I think they’ll be so rewarding for everybody, ultimately, that that’s our hope, for sure."

Thanks for the novel, didn't read one word of this never ending story.

You guys are so mean.

More like childish.

While I certainly agree drama has to be included, but it's generally the same drama over and over. I personally can't stand love triangles. The first time I encountered one in a TV show, I probably thought it was a good piece of drama. I couldn't tell you when that was though, since I've seen approximately 54,829 love triangles on TV shows and in movies. They all sort of blend together now.

As for the mask thing, yeah it's annoying when a hero won't keep his mask on. You are certainly right about the need for facial expressions to give some meaning to what the character is saying, but I do think it is done more often to give the star some face time. I just try to rationalize it away by thinking the mask is hot and makes it hard to breathe. I'd be taking of my mask as often as possible if I were Spider-Man. That thing looks uncomfortable.

I understand your view on love triangles, but if one plot point is grating due constant repetition in different series and mediums, one might as well quit watching TV, movies, or sitting through stories in any format, cause different plot points will be repeated, a lot.

Well,I agree about the unmasking and the CW style drama/romance is always a bit trying. But for the most part,I'm happy with the show.
