I'm going to stick with this show cause I love the character.
But boy...the similarities with Smallville are killing me. Freak of the week due to the meteor rocks...I mean explosion. The doomed love affair..."I love you but we can never be together"...ugh.
I know I'll stick with it because I watched every episode of Smallville too. Maybe I'm part of the problem. Smallville stayed on the air for 10 seasons and I guess someone at WB thinks they should copy that formula?
edit: Green Arrow and Flash "tie" in a fight? Really? Jesus.... Writer induced stupidity is a necessary evil with a character with super speed....I get that. No character with super speed can actually ever be defeated...but that really made my eyes roll.
It's not like I'm a lone voice on this. The parallels with Smallville are there.

Most episodes, The Flash is facing a new lightning (as opposed to meteor rock) freak of the week and the titular hero has already been branded with a nondescript Red Streak nickname similar to Clark Kents original monicker The Blur. Even if The Flash is a better show than Smallville (as some have argued) is it a bit too familiar to keep CW viewers engaged? The comparison drew semi-heated debate on the latest Screen Rant Underground podcast but well have plenty of time to see how ratings track in the coming months since the network recently gave the series a full season order.

I'm in either way...I watched Smallville to the bitter end. But I would rather not have it remembered in the same way Smallville is remembered. Not to mention the show may not survive ratings-wise if they follow the Smallville template. I actually like the Flash character even more than Superman.
It seems Liam McIntyre (Spartacus) has been cast as Weather Wizard.
There's a set photo on Punkd Images' instagram/Twitter (not posting because you know why).
Not sure how pointing out how many other shows do the same tired thing is a good defense of this show doing it too.The Flash being remembered as Smallville? You've got to be kidding me. What kind of rubbish is that.
This show is miles better than Smallville and is nothing like it at all. A "freak of the week" is reaching if looking for a comparison. Let's just apply this to every damn show that's on TV.
Doctor Who is awfully similar to the X-Files, a new freak of the week with a dude and a chick running around saying words. Time to blog about it.
But I'm not sure what you would want the show to be about? It's a superhero show where he fights villains. I don't get it, what's the hang up here?
You've already told us a few times that you don't like that formula, but you haven't given us an idea of what you would want to see, or how it could be better without him fighting a villain every week. It kinda sounds like you read an article that you agreed with, but have no actual opinion on it, other than regurgitating what you read and agreed with.
