Looks really impressive for a fan film.

I've never needed a Google account until now because the bloody thing is age restricted! :funny:

Very impressed with it I have to say, especially for a fan film, they tend to either look incredibly cheap and rushed, or be very short. Was nice to see a fan film with some actual quality and talent go into it that's a full hour long. The length and open endedness of it kinda make me want an F13 tv show.

I just finished Never Hike Alone, really wish I’d been able to watch it on Friday the 13th but been in the UK it didn’t debut for us until 4am Sat morning. Waking up I couldn’t wait to watch it and was going to sit until this Evening. But my wife and son are fast asleep and it’s really cloudy outside so I was able to create the right darkened atmosphere to watch this.

Right off the bat there was something I liked about the feel of it. It felt like a Friday the 13th updated, it felt fresh but it still had many elements from the originals that it felt enough like a Friday the 13th movie.

What Vincente DiSanti has done is what Paramount and many others have failed to do for years. Bring the franchise a fresh approach while keeping in with what the series actually is. He was also able to bring in elements of found footage and it did not feel show horned in.

I’m sure the film would not work without an actor as good as the lead here Andrew Leighty. He really carries the film and is very believable. Now onto Jason himself, portrayed by director Vicente DiSanti. There are times you swear you see him in the background but I’m not sure he was there. As for the performance when we did I love what he did with him (even if at times the stomping sounds didn’t quite match up). He reminded me of what Derek Mears Jason would be like were he to become the undead version. The look was my favourite aspect, the washed out look of the mask and the overall grey vibe was unique.

The score was magnificent, again it felt updated but still had a classic feel to it in parts.

This is exactly what the franchise needed. It’s crazy that a fan film has been able to deliver something truly fresh to the franchise and the bigwigs in Hollywood can’t get it.

I would love to get this film on Blu Ray if Womp Stomp film do a release and it would sit proudly alongside my other Friday films.

9/10

Edit: there’s a hell of a surprise at the end. [blackout]I can’t believe he got Thom Matthews in the film. Absolutely flawed by that[/blackout]

I wholeheartedly agree in regards to the fresh approach and overall execution of this. If there were three things I'd fix, it'd be:

- Fight choreography. I know it's a fan-film, so it has its limitations, but there were points were Jason would've been his no-nonsense killing machine and landed that slash.
- The EMTs line delivery.
- [blackout]Thom Matthews' reveal. It kinda fell flat for me when he, after leaving the cab and confronting Jason with the male EMT, he gets back in (taking way too long btw) to then say "You remember me?" Can't help but feel it would've worked better for the hiker to hallucinate as the EMTs are talking to each other with Tommy contributing while being cloaked by lighting and shot-blocking. Then Jason begins his rampage on the two EMTs, then bam, reveal Tommy.[/blackout]

interesting. I've got a 4 replica from Fiberglass Masks. Since I have no budget this year for a halloween costume I was going to use that :P

Hope to see these when you're done.

I still cannot get the part 7/8 blu ray double feature. These are the only 2 that I do not have on blu ray and it bothers me!!

Oh I'm looking forward to hearing what you're thoughts on those two are. ;)

Never Hike Alone was great. Really impressed with what Vincente DiSanti created.

Wow, Just finished watching a little bit ago. A few nitpicks, like the constant stomp sound FX, and a little bit of questionable characterization in the end, but very cool, and shows how lazy the studios really are at handling the material. I liked this better than any effort put out in at least two decades, probably almost 3.

Yea, I mean, it was great, [BLACKOUT]and getting one of the 3 Jarvis actors was sweet![/BLACKOUT]

But it could have been better

[BLACKOUT]It was odd, he was like Remember ME? An I was like YASSS, MA MAN TOMMY IN BATTLE TO DEATH! and then he just rode away
just a itzy bit anticlimactic.[/BLACKOUT]

But it's a nitpick. It is overall a fantastic, lean and mean Friday the 13 film, and I can hold it in as much regards as the originals.

I concur with all this, it's basically what I meant by "questionable" without wanting to spoil anything :P

Loved Never Hike Alone. Perhaps the only good fanfilm ever made, and I mean that. Very well acted, the writing was on point, and the entire ending had me smiling from ear to ear. Brilliant stuff. Give this guy a shot, at making a theatrical Friday film.

.

It's not even that, [blackout]Tommy had just gotten out of the cab to confront him after making eye contact. Having some time to think on it, it should've been:

-Hallucinating incorporating all three EMTs, Tommy cloaked by camera angles and shadows (they did a fantastic job to begin with)
-Wakes up, Jason appears for real
-Two quick efficient kills
-"HEY, Remember me?!"[/blackout]

It's just a tighter and more cohesive/coherent way to end it. I'm even okay with them driving off as, consistent with most installments, it leaves on cliffhanger of sorts.

I do think the end wasn’t as tight as it could have been.[blackout]I was actually expecting it to end with him going a bit crazy in the ambulance thinking Jason was there. Like the whole Part V Thing with the memory of Jason Haunting Tommy. That would have been a fitting end to the film as it would have shown that Kyle’s life will never be the same again. But then they sprung that Tommy surprise on us and it was awesome in a different way. Sure they could have tightened that part up but it still works as it is.[/blackout]

It is easy to say after the fact though.

It’s the best I’ve seen, but there are other good fan films out there. There are a couple of great Halloween ones like Halloween Resurgence etc and there’s The Confession of Fred Krueger that was brilliant too. So it’s not in a league of its own but it’s at the top of that league. If that makes sense.

I totally forgot to add re Never Hike Alone, how much I loved that unmasking scene. It looked awesome and the fact you couldn’t quite make out the whole face made it that much better.

Just read the Antosca script, and I have to say it was surprisingly good. Characters were likeable and I loved the depiction of Jason! That ending with Jason attacking the cops would have been great to see! :csad:

For the last time, there is absolutely no evidence to support that Gun Media plans to go back and add the skins that are currently not apart of the game. They haven't stated as such or gave any indication, and as a way to make up for them, they had Savini create a brand new Jason exclusively for the game. I know how the business works, so re-explaining something I'm acutely aware of does not prove you're right about there being later DLC.

So, again, I'm not wrong about anything. Until you find some proof that Gun Media plans to acquire that license and utilize those properties to make DLC, I'm not wrong. Point blank.

I can't even believe this is an argument. I'm wrong about there not being any DLC regarding skins even though there's absolutely no evidence to support that's their plan. :funny:

Excellent!

I really like the Antosca script, while it wasn’t perfect it was damn good. Just needed a few changes and it would have been there. Personally I wasn’t feeling his song choices in the script either, I mean there are some great songs but they don’t suit Friday the 13th for me.

Last chance to get get your hands on a copy of Never Hike Alone on Blu Ray/DVD or VHS.

Once they’re gone they’re gone and they won’t be doing anymore.
