The Full List of "Crimes" Committed by Fox's Tom Rothman

Why do so many people rag on X-Men 3? Yeah, it could have been better, but I thought it was a good movie overall, and as the closing chapter of the X-Men trilogy I was quite satisfied with it. I think that people unleash a lot of unwarranted resentment on it just because of the politics behind Bryan Singer not directing it.

Think of it this way people: if Fox had done what so many fanboys wanted and waited a year or longer for Bryan Singer to finish making Superman Returns, they would have lost half the cast. Many of the returning X-Men cast members have very high price tags, and are in demand for a lot of projects. If Fox missed their planned window for making X-Men 3, they might not have been able to make it at all without recasts and / or even more character deaths.

My major gripe with X3 is and always has been that I feel it should have been a half hour longer. There were a lot of stories going on that I wanted to see explored further, but due to time constraints they couldn't. But hey, a movie that leaves you wanting more is at least better than a movie that makes you shout "when is this thing over?" at the screen (read: Superman Returns.)

It's pretty obvious dude. I can see how someone could defend Fox's other (AVERAGE) property Fantastic Four, but not X3. NOT X-3!

Cyclops dying without any remorse from his team-mates; new characters being introduced while old ones are either killed, are MIA or get mistreated (Mystique, Nightcrawler); misguided main plot with the serum instead of the Phoenix story; Logan being the one who saves Jean at the end; weird editing, and the list goes on?

It's nice to see that people (or media) beyond the movie fanboys are realizing the ****ness of Fox.

damn & I thought the F*X tv network was worse but now I think about it F*X are sucking in the movie department too.

Hey fun fact, out of the six big movie studios F*X comes last for making the most money so far this year, yay.

Tom Rothman, is the current is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Fox Filmed Entertainment, the parent company of Twentieth Century Fox. Everywhere I go on the internet, when this guy is mentioned, it's always in a very negative light. For instance, under Rothman's watch, Fox's movies (particularly their summer blockbusters) are mandated to not run under two hours in order to fit in more theater showings (thus automatically guaranteeing more money).

Things that Fox under Tom Rothman's eye has been bashed for (as far as I know):
*Editing "Die Hard 4" to make it a PG-13 film even though the previous three, had been R-rated. This pretty much meant that Bruce Willis couldn't say John McClaine's trademark "Yippie-ki-ya, mother ****er!" line as it was fully intended.

*The mismanagement of the production for "X-Men 3". For instance:
**Not waiting for Bryan Singer to finish working on "Superman Returns", and not having a replacement director until I believe weeks before filming was due to start. And when a director is finally hired, it's Brett Ratner, who has grown a reputation for being a hack, *****bag, MTV music video, action director.

**Not waiting for several actors (e.g. James Marsden, Rebecca Romjin, and Anna Paquin) to take care of prior engagements before filming. For in the process, certain characters were "killed off" as a matter of convinence.

**Seemingly rushing the production as means of retailiating against Bryan Singer for heading off to make "Superman Returns" (which also opened in the summer of 2006).

**Tom Rothman also allegedly didn't want Sentinels (the gigantic, mutant hunting robots) appearing in an X-Men film because he believed that audiences would immediately think that giant robots appearing in live-action would be too "silly". This was of course, before "Transformers" (a movie for which Tom Rothman allegedly turned down) came out.

*Ordering Ridley Scott to edit his movie "Kingdom of Heaven" to make it look like a more formulaic action-adventure film, when Scott intended for it to be much deeper.

*Having "Daredevil" edited to make it appear more like a summer blockbuster (i.e. more CGI) in the mode of "Spider-Man". "Daredevil" was initially conceived as a more violent, R-rated film in the mold of Frank Miller's run with the comics.

*Not giving the "Fantastic Four" films a better budget, to go along with hirining Tim Story (who is primarily known as a comedic director rather than a sci-fi, action-adventure director) and aiming for a campy, cookie-cutter, sitcomy feel. Rothman also allegedly thought that it would be better for us to see Galactus as a cloud.

*Trashing plans for an "ID4" sequel.

*Browbeating "LXG" director Stephen Norrington until he quit the business altogether. Rothman also allegedly almost convinced "I, Robot" director Alex Proyas to give up filmmaking.

All points are valid and reasons why Fox for the most part sucks as a movie studio. Recently, the director of Babylon A.D. disses his own movie as well as Fox, and said that Fox forced him to edit much of the movie. He said he regrets not picking a better studio in the first place.

These were all actually quite good and did better than modest business for Fox...despite their ratings on RT.

X3 was pile of absolute ****, thats why people rag on it, they could have easily re-organised around the actors schedule to shoot it later, but no, all they cared about was money and wanting to get he movie out before SR. Real immature. SR was 20 times the movie X3 was. And i'm 20 times the X-Men fan i am compared to Superman, though i have large knowledge of both.

Oh and Rothman is the biggest ******** on the planet. This Watchmen fiasco is just a joke.

Agreed, i'm glad others are now seeing this, it only help to get Fox and their ****ing act together.

Posting in an epic thread.

I could go on for weeks about how much I hate Tom Rothman. He's exactly what's wrong with modern cinema. Here's that X3 script review Rothman got so upset with, it's got some nasty things to say about him. I love this review.

Because Fox is sueing WB because they had the movie rights back in the 90's.

So Fox haven't got the rights now?

If WB are in the wrong.... how the **** could they have gotten the movie to such a completed state beofre there was a problem....

THAT is what i cannot get my head around.

Simple. They can make more money.

Only one I agree with on that list is trashing the plans for a sequel to ID4.

I enjoyed ID4, it was a fun summer film...but it doesn't need a sequel.
My sentiments exactly Figs. I like ID4 but it does not need a sequel.

Otherwise, yeah, Rothman sucks.

Fantastic 4 was pure fart. IMO Fantastic 4 is a much better example of what happens when Rothman is in the driver's seat than X-Men 3.

Thats part of Fox being sneaky...they probably knew WB overlooked some of the fine print of the contract that released the rights of the Watchmen property back to other studios...most couldn't get past hiring a director and writer before the project was shelved...suddenly WB has an ace up their sleeve and Fox heads at this point were doubting it would get made, then on the possibility it did...they dug up a clause that stated they would be owed a portion of profits in the event the movie is developed at another studio, and the reason they waited so long...is because they also were wondering how it was gonna turn out...two things happened, they panicked and they envied its potential.
So, its not that Fox didn't know, its more like WB overlooked a small binding agreement, Fox heads were just waiting to see what would come of it and were blown away by the teaser trailer and scrambled...but heres where Fox might lose out...if a judge rules the studio intentionally withheld this information and/or allowed the movie to be made this far along without bringing this up to the legal dept. at WB, they'll get laughed out of court.

Ugh! I hate Fox. They produce more crap than any other major studio. That Rothman f***er is SUCH a *****ebag!! And his latest incident with Gavin Hood, I mean come on. He is an *******. Plain and simple. Get this moron out of office. NOW.

UGH!!!

- Said no to Alien 5 by James Cameron and Ridley Scott because "We have a good script for AVP."

WOW. He's definitely going to hell now. I mean, Alien 3 and Resurrection weren't as well-liked as the first two...but the directors of the first two got turned down? Unbelievable.

not only that. he said to them that he has a good alien vs predator script

i'm pretty sure i heard that the first fantastic four movie never even had a finished script when they started filming...then it only had like 3 months until it was due out in cinemas...
