Yeah, I'm fairly sure I read a quote from one of the guys from Naughty Dog and they said something along the lines of "Next Gen" not being much more than this gen in terms of graphics and whatnot.

When consumers think "next gen" they thing giant graphical leap. Maybe not all.. but most and why not? Each generation of video game consoles have been a huge step above what they were prior... If a developer like Naughty Dog says they don't see a graphical leap, more like maybe a skip then what's the point?

I fear the only reason "next gen" is even in the cards right now is so Sony and Microsoft can show us their new motion control setup.

Seriously.

Kinect II and Move Plus! WOOO!
Yeah, that's a bit of a surprising comment from them. Console tech will be almost 10 years old by the next gen. I don't believe it :yay:

I think it's probable what Naughty Dog said could be true. At least for Sony. Their financial situation is precarious to say the least, so they really can't afford to go all out again like they did with the PS3. It would probably be in their best interest to follow Nintendo's example and put out weaker hardware so that they make a profit on every console sold.

We already know Nintendo's strategy for next gen. The rumors surrounding the capabilities of the Wii U vary wildly. Some saying that it's significantly more powerful than the PS360, some saying it's on par with them, and others saying that's it's actually weaker. Personally I don't care about any of that. All I want out of the Wii U is Nintendo games in HD, and that's exactly what they're delivering.

When it comes down to it, Microsoft is really the only one in a position to put out a beast next generation. The question is, will they?

Right, that's possibly true for Sony. It will be strange as in the past 3 generations Sony have had the strongest hardware. Even with their other products they've always gone for that premium top of the range image (& price).

Noooo. Not including Sega consoles, the PS1 and PS2 were both the weakest in their respective generations.

Can't believe how wrong I am! :csad::woot: I always at least thought the PS2 was more powerful than the original XBox!

No, original Xbox was more powerful than the PS2. Heck, the Cube was more powerful than the PS2.. RE Remake + RE0 are the best examples.

Yeah, I only found out today, researching after reading Soapy's post. I only owned PS1 & PS2 from those generations and didn't really get back into gaming till the start of the current generation. Also didn't really use internet much in those days so I guess I've just kept the same wrong assumptions all these years! Feel like a bit of an old fool now :woot:

If you isolated yourself from other consoles and the internet I couldn't fault you for coming to that conclusion. The PS2 Metal Gear and Silent Hill games, not to mention God of War, looked incredible at the time and still hold up very well today. And those are just a few examples. What the PS2 lacked in hardware capability it more than made up for with an embarrassment of riches of extremely talented developers.

That's what I was gonna say. The what the PS2 lacked in power they made up for in developers and games.

That's what people want when it comes down to it. Games.

Hope Sony/Microsoft/Nintendo remember that going forward.

That's generous :up::woot:

And yeah I guess the quality of the games led me to thinking like that, completely hiding the inferior specs.

So I downloading The Witcher: Enhanced Edition off of Steam. Am I going to regret this? I heard it had a great story that was wrapped around by some crappy gameplay.

I haven't played it, but I've heard the gameplay is very different than The Witcher II and takes some getting used to.

I heard that too, but I also heard that the Witcher II's gameplay takes some getting used too lol. Well, guess I'll find out. I've done a lot of MMOs and a couple of shooters, but this is my first solo PC gaming experience, pretty excited for this.

Well that was a waste of ten bucks. I can't figure out how to fix this game. Only about 70% of the textures load. The rest are just black squares.

Why dont any of Marvel's videogames come out on the PC anymore? Not counting the MMO which is specifically built for the PC, none of its multiplatform games come out on the PC. I believe the last one was Spiderman: Shattered Dimensions in 2010. MuA2, Iron Man 2, Thor, Captain America, SM: EoT,Xmen Destiny, Marvel vs Capcom 3, etc...all got skipped over. Its not like Activision, Capcom and Sega dont release PC games bc they put out almost all of their games there except Marvel ones. I dont get it

They probably just don't see the PC as profitable.
Then why release all their other games on the PC BUT Marvel titles? Capcom didnt put MvC3 or UMvC3 on the PC but they put every itteration of SFIV and are releasing SFxTK this week.

By "they" I meant Marvel's gaming department. Presumably they get the final say on which platforms the games are released on.

Saints Row 3 to have a $30 expansion pack

http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/03/saints-row-the-third-enter-the-dominatrix/

I loved Saints Row 3, but I heard the DLC was a let down. I'm definitely going to wait on this one, see if it's actually a lengthy experience.
I'll be waiting until the price drops like a stone on that. Saints Row is fun, but it's not $90-for-one-game fun.

I noticed the change happened after 2010, which coincides to Disney buying Marvel. Maybe Disney doesnt like PC?

Spec Ops The Line demo is out and its not bad at all
