According to this DS3 sold 605k and Crysis 260k so you can get a very rough idea on where the rest of the list is probably sitting sales wise.

Well the NPD only tracks NA sales so Japan wouldnt be counted. I hope they didnt set their expectations too high though bc those numbers are pretty dissapointing especially compared to MGS4. MGS4 did 1.3 million worldwide on its first day and 776K in the NPDs for that month. Remember that it was only released on the PS3 and this was back in 2008 when the userbase was relatively small. 5 years later, MGR comes out on both platforms, both of which have large userbases now and it does less than a third of that. Hopefully the EU numbers are better

I know many are skipping that one bc it just another prequel and the scores arent helping matters. I wouldnt be surprised if it ends up in a similar boat. Doesnt seem like a good time for hack and slash games

Boy, this one’s sure to be a toughie, right? American McGee queried fans on his Facebook page yesterday on the level of interest for seeing the development of a third Alice game two years after the release of Alice: Madness Returns.

NPD numbers can be very deceptive. Since it lumps all games that came out in the same month together, it will naturally favor games that come out earlier. Dead Space 3 came out at the beginning of the month, while Metal Gear Rising and Crysis came out towards the end. Both Crisis and Revengeance will probably sell better in March than they did in February, though it may not show on that month's NPD rankings, since there are a number of heavy hitters coming out in March. NPDs are weird.

The numbers are still bad compared to the last console release in the series. MGSIV also came out in the middle of the month and did much much better on one console, with a very small install base. Heck the MGS HD Collection did ~ 256K across 360/PS3 when it was released in November of 2011 and that month had CoD and all those other big fall titles. That was roughly about what MGR did but those were a collection of old games so the lower numbers were expected. Rising as an original title not doing much better is surprising and disappointing at the same time. It didn't do as good as expected for a main entry in the MG franchise

Okay? I don't know what to tell you man. Game sales are down across the board. I guarantee you that the new God of War and Gears won't sell as well as the previous entries in those series either. Plus, you can't really say if the sales of any given game were good or bad without knowing what the budget was.

Actually DS2 shipped 2 million, but it sold something between 300,000-500,000 units if I remember correctly.

Haha, yeah I knew that 2 million number for DS2 didn't sound right. I think it did a little less than 3 million total, but 2/3s of that definetly wasn't in the first week

To be fair to Soapy publishers like to take shipped numbers and say "We sold this many copies!" and get a bunch of articles published about it and it isn't inaccurate per se since shipped copies are essentially sold ones from their perspective but it can get confusing when trying to figure out sales numbers.

MGR:R shouldn't be assessed against the core Metal Gear line. It's very much a side title/spin off & not even a similar type of game. No reason to expect anything near those kind of crazy numbers.
